With Josh Beekman set to replace Frank Omiyale as the starting left guard, it's only natural that most of the questions following Wednesday's Bears practice had to do with the offensive line.
Well, offensive coordinator Ron Turner became fed up with answering those questions.
The offensive line, having allowed 11 sacks and contributing to the Bears' 29th-ranked rushing offense, has struggled. But Turner stood up for his group regardless.
``We've got a good offensive line,'' Turner said. ``They're good football players. They're playing well. And collectively, as an offense, we've got to do some things better.
``Everyone's talking about the offensive line, and I have no idea why. I like our offensive line. Got good players, good depth.''
Both Beekman and tackle Kevin Shaffer have starting experience but neither has gotten much time this season. That should change for Beekman, who started all 16 games at left guard last season. Beekman was ahead of Omiyale for most of training camp.
``What does (Beekman) bring to the table? He's a good football player,'' Turner said. ``He started last year. Frank's a good football player. A lot of guys are good football players.''
Shaffer, a former Cleveland Brown, has 86 career starts. He would love to see some action against his former team Sunday.
``It would be nice to play them, plus I have a lot of friends on the team,'' Shaffer said. ``But I like the situation here. I like the guys here.
``Of course, I'm not playing. Maybe I'd be playing (in Cleveland). I'm happy with way it turned out. I'm happy with the move.''

Ron Turner, you are higher than a kite. The answers alone shows why you are part of the problem...you cannot recognize that the line you have is absolutely underperforming. Your drive blocking sucks. The only thing your line can do, somewhat satisfactorily, is pass blocking. You are a complete dufus for not being able to recognize a good oline vs. a bad one. Here are the answers to the test...a good oline are the Saints or Giants or Steelers or Colts, and bad oline are the bears or the bears or the bears. The stats speak volumes to this teams poor performance. Damit man, take the pipe out of your mouth.
Sorry Ron, Wrong Answer! There Professionals, and the more I watch your whole scheme and Offense unit and your response in situations(puke) it brings my optimism down! I realize you can't throw them under the bus so to say.... But anyone not holding a lacking unit accountable loses respect in our eyes(fans) your grade scale must be really low or something? Unfortunately for you Ron, I have a DVR and study our deficencies, with my contacts out is the only way I see the same thing your whole offense staff must see? While no one would expect Turner to throw his OL under the bus, some things are better left unsaid. The OL is not "performing well". If they are, then it must be the RB and QB? No Ron? well, if it isn't the OL, or the RB, or the QB, then..... it must be that you run the wrong offensive sets, are unimaginative in the play calling, dated in your schemes and devise really bad game plans, which means the problem is.... oh, never mind, I'm sick of saying it.

Look and Look again. We all remember the superbowl Bears of the 80's. There is no way to determine if we have good players or not until we first start at the top. Look how we trashed so many players because we were convinced they were garbage and couldn't wait to throw them to the way side. Kyle Orton, (6-0), Cedric Benson, Number 1 or 2 running back in the NFL, Bernard Berriam, etc, etc, etc, to many players that we got rid of that have contributed to many NFL teams around the league because they haven't fit in Chicago's offense scheme. Maybe that should say something about Chicago's offense scheme. I have been saying for years that the entire coaching staff needs a makeover. The offensive coordinator sucks and should have been let go years ago. Defensively we have been on the downslide. Bad downslide. He should go. The head coach should see the issues and correct them and because of his lack of input, he should go as well. I don't care that they are great guys, they just aren't great coaches. Stats don't lie. Bears fans crave for great defense and a great running game at a minimum and anything else is candy. We don't even have that anymore. If you look at the statistics we are not far behind the Raiders, Browns, Bucs, Bills, Lions and some other losing teams in some or most of the major categories. Wake the hell up Chicago. Once we put competent coaches in place then we can evaluate players. We have some talent. Some guys just need to be coached and yes some guys need to be released, but lets start at the top, the coaching staff. Bring Dikta back (ha ha). After we find a decent coach which apparently we are willing to fork out good money and there are good coaches out there that would probably be willing to take that fat cash that can coach.

Nobody is asking turner to throw anybody under the bus. he can criticize himself as well, but don't peddle this b.s. and expect us to believe it. They are playing like a bunch of pansies, and he should tell them that. the fans are tough enough to hear the truth. we don't need to be babied, and neither should this O-line (if you can call it that).
And someone was talking about their feelings and how we need to coddle them etc. That's ridiculous! These guys are getting paid a lot of money to play football. We don't need to sit back and stroke their egos like their 8 year olds in little league. You can't tell guys that are stinking up the joint, that you're happy with their play, because then they will be satisfied with 80 rushing yards per game and 11 sacks.
If they suck, tell them they suck, and that you expect more from them. You can give credit where credit is do, but you need to lay it down, light a fire under their butts, and hope they go out with a chip on their shoulder and actually block somebody...dare i say get a push, or even open up a hole. Calling them out in the papers seems like the perfect way to do that. issue a challenge and see who steps up. This is a business, and this is THE league. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen!

Either your offensive line is atrocious or your running back is terrible. What's it going to be? Don't tell us that the offensive line is full of great players who are playing well...the evidence is so to the contrary that statements like that are seriously insulting. Half our linemen fall down or are driven into the backfield on every play.

After reading the comments left by previous posters I am left to believe that they are the ones who are clueless.
What do you expect? Do you expect him to throw Olin, Omiyale and the rest under the bus and say they are awful? What exactly does that accomplish?
Look, every one of us...including Turner...knows that the line isn't playing well, but it's not like they can go out and replace every single player on the line mid-season. In other words you have to PLAY WHAT YOU HAVE. And by admitting to the public that you have ZERO confidence in your players all you'll do is hurt their confidence.
Who cares about their confidence, you say? Great. So we bench Omiyale this week and Beekman gets hurt on the first drive...who has to replace him? That's right, Omiyale. Do you really think a player that has not only just been benched but has also been bashed in the media by his coaches is going to perform BETTER? He's human. He's going to think 'if he doesn't have confidence in me, why should I?'
Moves ARE being made. That is the REAL indicator of if Turner believe the O-line is performing or not. If they were playing as great as Turner suggested in his answers Beekman wouldn't be starting this Sunday in place of Omiyale.

I didn't see the reporters asking the questions to Lovie, but from what I read-they seemed to have pushed some buttons. I would have loved to have seen his reaction, because it appears that his facial expressions actually moved from that DUH, WHAT AM I DOING HERE look he always has on sundays. Joan Rivers can make more expressions with her face...and it's rittled with BOTOX.
