Mesa residents may vote on proposal to keep Cubs

The Arizona Republic reports: The mayor of Mesa, Ariz., said this week residents may be asked to vote next year on a plan to keep the Cubs from moving their spring training site to Naples, Fla.

"I look at it purely from the economic development standpoint," mayor Scott Smith said. "Investing in rich athletes, as distasteful as that may be to some people, creates an economic benefit to the community that far outweighs the investment."
