NEW YORK--Left-hander Cliff Lee outdueled former Cleveland teammate CC Sabathia and the defending champion Phillies broke homefield advantage with a 6-1 victory over the Yankees in Game 1 of the World Series played at soggy new Yankee Stadium.
Lee, acquired in mid-season, is 3-0 with an earned-run average of 0.54 in four postseason starts. The only Yankee run Wednesday was an unearned run in the ninth inning.
The Phillies scored two runs in seven innings off Sabathia, both on solo homers by Chase Utley in the third and sixth innings.
Game 2 is Thursday night with the Yankees' A. J. Burnett facing Pedro Martinez.
