NEW YORK -- There seems to be little doubt that the Yankees will use CC Sabathia on three days' rest at least once in the World Series but the Phillies may be more careful with their ace, Cliff Lee.
Philadelphia pitching coach Rich Dubee said Tuesday that "right now we're leaning toward four starters.'' That would mean rookie J.A. Happ, the Northwest product, or right-hander Joe Blanton work Game 4 against Sabathia.
The Phillies did announce that Pedro Martinez will start Game 2 at Yankee Stadium, with Cole Hamels getting Game 3 at Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park. Martinez will face the Yankees' A.J. Burnett; Hamels will face Andy Pettitte.
While the Yankees seem somewhat set through Game 4, their plans would become cloudy in Games 5 and 6. Barring a rainout, there's only one off day through Game 5. Than means that either Burnett starts on three days rest in Game 5 or the Yankees need a fourth starter, most like Chad Gaudin.
