Bears defense not pointing blame at offense

Bears defensive end Alex Brown was asked Monday if players get frustrated or have tension when one side of the ball is not carrying its weight. In Sunday's 30-6 win over the Browns, the defense forced five turnovers that led to 20 points while the offense sputtered, going 2 for 7 in the red zone.

"I don't believe so,'' Brown said. "Personally not for me because my job is to stop the offense from scoring. Being a part of the defense, that's our job regardless of what our offense is doing. Whether we're scoring or whether we're not scoring on the offensive side, my job is to stop the other team from scoring. That's it.''

Jay Cutler and the offense settled for three field goals when they could have scored touchdowns against the league's worst defense.

"Our offense, hey, they're good,'' Brown said. "They're good and they're going to start rolling here soon. (Matt) Forte is going to get back. He's starting to run the ball a little harder, not that he wasn't running hard in the first place.

"...Jay's Jay. He's a heck of a quarterback. Our receivers are catching the ball. They're getting open. It's going to start coming. ... Yeah, there's always a game (where) you can see things that we could have done better. But that's on both sides of the ball and that's every game. We don't believe we have more pressure on ourselves to play better because of what the offense is doing. No, we feel like we need to play better regardless.''

Lovie Smith was not in panic mode over the offense, either. He pointed to third-down conversions, but the Bears were 6 of 16 against the Browns. And 29 percent efficiency in the red zone speaks for itself.

"I pleased with us continuing to get into the red zone where we're talking about the red zone,'' Smith said. "... It will come, as long as we maintain what we're doing and just continue to get the ball down there.''

Smith was asked how involved he could be with the offense.

"As much as I've been involved since I've been here,'' he said. "I'm not the offensive coordinator, never have been. (I) know what's going on, pay close attention behind everything that we're doing offensively. Feel good about what we're doing offensively. There are some things we need to do a little bit better, which we'll do.''

Remember Bears fans, Cutler was exactly like that in Denver with Shanahan as his coach. He couldn't get the ball in the end zone, always field goals. Sooner or later, you have to realize that something is wrong with the quarterbacks play.

I agree with Sweet34-a. That could definitely happen. Look at the Cards last year. The Colts defense the year the won the Super Bowl. That could be the Bears this year. I will say this though, Turner needs to get rid of the 15 scripted plays. Let's call the plays based on what the defense gives us. As an offense we need to have a cutthroat mentality. Get scores quickly and often, when the other team is down, step on their throat. Look at the Saints. Personnel wise we can match up, but our offensive play calling can't hold a flame to theirs. When we make the playoffs I hope we have a few home games.

How soon we forget. Only a few short years ago, Lovie got the team to the Super Bowl. (Only coach since Ditka to do it in the modern era) Now all of a sudden he's the village idiot? They'll get it turned around, nobody stays at the bottom forever, except the Cubs.

In the immortal words of fellow Chicagoan John Belushi, " WISE UP" ! This is a 6-10 team , in denial and disarray ! Lack of draft picks, inability to evaluate talent, resistance to spend $$ in FA.Jerry and Lovie will be here until their contracts expire. Ted phillips and Mike McCaskey will then look to the cheapest coachingoption out there. Ron Zook may be the next Bears head coach !

Lovie is ridiculous...He's totally in denial. They have been pathetic in the red zone all year. Yet his comment,

"I pleased with us continuing to get into the red zone where we're talking about the red zone,'' Smith said. "... It will come, as long as we maintain what we're doing and just continue to get the ball down there.''

Wow. What's the definition of insanity? Doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results...That's our offense and defensive scheme philosophy. It will be a miracle if we end up .500. Please tell someone at Halas Hall that finishing .500 isn't a good thing.

they'll say...wake up!

what i love about a season like this is, what if we do get better, what if we peak just at the right time? what if the O line finally gets it together soon? what if the D lne makes more than one sack a game again? ... whats everyone going to say then?
