Bears Game Day: Third-quarter observations

By Vaughn McClure

MINNEAPOLIS -- The third quarter started with a bang for the Bears, with Johnny Knox returning the kickoff 77 yards to set the Bears up with a first-and-goal from the Vikings' 8. But then the Bears showed why they entered as a 4-6 team.

First, Matt Forte ran for no gain. Then Jay Cutler got sacked. Then a false start penalty by Orlando Pace. Then Cutler was sacked again.

Settling for a 38-yard Robbie Gould field goal in that situation was the last thing the Bears needed. Devin Hester said last week that the offense couldn't afford to settle for field goals when they had the chance to score touchdowns.

Well, at least the Vikings struggled to get into the end zone, too, settling for a field goal midway through the quarter after a slew of penalties.

The situation really looks bleak for the Bears going into the fourth due to injuries. Charles Tillman and Zack Bowman, the starting corners, left with injuries. Corey Graham and Nathan Vasher replaced them. Lance Briggs and Alex Brown also got banged up but remain in the game. And starting left tackle Orlando Pace was taken to the locker room with a groin injury.

I thought we could win the Superbowl this year. At least get there. What a putz ...

LOL on the 'Cutler is the answer' comment. If baby jay is the answer, I can only assume the question is who is the most overrated QB in the NFL. People, when will the love-fest end and fans realize we got freakin chided in that deal.

As long as the Bears have swinging gates for an O-line they will continue to suck.

No 1st round draft pick, No 2nd rounds draft pick. It's going to be 3-4 more years of sucky Bears team. To many holes to fill.

Cutler might no preform that bad if he had more than 2 seconds to throw the ball.

Cover 2?
Yeah....cover both of your eyes and turn off the TV!

Only firing Lovie isn't the problem. Turner would have to go as well. I have seen better offense play calling when I played football on thanksgiving morning back in the day.

With this organization you have to start at the top and work your way down.

How many more beatings like this do we have to take before the owners realize how bad Lovie and his staff are getting drastically out-coached every week..... from stupid coach challenges, to not being able to adjust in-game, to not being capable of implementing 21 st century defensive or offensive schemes, to not knowing how to evaluate and utilize the talent they have, to not being able to fire up and motivate the players, to not keeping the players accountable...........

I could go on and on. The Bears are not as bad as they look. They need a different coaching staff and they need it quick.

PS - Did anybody see Lovie do anything (say anything) the entire game???????????

I have come to realize no matter how much we as fans scream, nothing is going to change! Everyone, including the owner and her sons and grandsons are still making money hand over fist because of us fans. Most of the players on this team could care less if they win or lose. Why should they, they still get paid big time money for just showing up thanks to the contract extensions most have received. How many more games do we have to watch an O-line who has no heart to block anyone and a defense that wants to bump everyone instead of tackle!! I love the bears as do most fans and it kills me that we seem to be the only ones upset over all of these loses!!!

Bears take another runny steaming dump in their own pants. Hopefully seeing their $50 mil qb getting slapped around like a cheap ho will motivate the owners to clean house (phillips, angelo, lovie,et al)and begin to rebuild.

can you say 4-12...do we get anything for that? Denver has to be ecstatic about next year. They may make the playoffs and end up w/2 number one picks. And the Bears will probably a 6-7th pick. Plus, no 2nd round pick...thanks Angelo.

Cutler is the answer. Other than him and Briggs, start over.

I have been a Bears fan for over 50 years.
The ownership of this team has just lost me as a fan!

The ownership idiots with their ongoing faith in Lovie and his stupid coaching decisions have got to go. I have never in all the years turned off a Bears game until today.

The failure of the coaches to find and bring in talent and the owners to recognize and do something about this is too much for any fan to support any longer. The Bears were a once proud and successful franchise - unfortunately there looks to be no rebound in sight unless the Bears dump Lovie, Blache, Turner, and several of their under performing and overpaid players.

Fire Lovie and Jerry Angelo RIGHT NOW!!!! Ted Phillips should then resign. The team is horrible and that is because of the decisions by those three morons. The Bears have no first or second round draft pick next year. I hope we are all prepared for a few cold winters to come.

Jay Cutler is clearly not the answer. He can't read a defense to save his life, especially in the red zone.

Cover two my ass.
The Bear defensive personnel were barely fast enough to run it prior to the injuries. Now, it is in shambles. The defense is mostly made up of undersized, average speed guys. Not good.
And the offense - no playmakers to speak of. Just a bunch of mediocre professionals, like most teams possess.
At least the Bears have a quarterback - he might not look it now, but he is a good one.
In reality, as long as the coaching staff and GM remain, well, any future success will depend more on luck than planning.

DA BEARS. The only thing worse than the bears, are the dumb assed bears fans. Will you take Ted Thompson off our hands up here in Green Bay?

Lovie says its a 'must win game" for the Bears. This is how Lovie motivates and inspires his player by letting Favre pass for 400 yards and giving up 36 points. The Vikings could have easily score 50...

just fire Lovie by 7am monday and watch the change in this team! this team suks water or dirt

Fire everyone on the Bears coaching staff. They have a week and a half to prepare for this crap...Hope we lose to Rams and really show how pathetic we are. This is your Bears for the next 2 years!
