Bears running back Garrett Wolfe confirmed in a text message to the Tribune that he will be placed on injured reserve with a lacerated kidney.
Wolfe cannot do any exercises for the next month, but is expected to make a full recovery. He should be ready for offseason conditioning.
Wolfe suffered the injury on the opening kickoff of the Bears' 41-21 loss to the Cardinals Nov. 8 and was hospitalized for several days. He had blood in his urine during halftime and was rushed to the hospital.
This marks the second straight year that Wolfe has been placed on injured reserve (last year it will because of a hamstring injury).
The Northern Illinois and Holy Cross product not only was Matt Forte's backup in the running game, he also was a key contributor on special teams with nine tackles. He had 120 rushing yards on 22 carries with one touchdown and caught two passes for 12 yards.

With Wolfe out, the Bears could promote running back Kahlil Bell
from the practice squad to be the third running back and to contribute
on special teams. The Bears also brought in free agent Maurice Hicks
for a workout, and the ex-Bear could be a valuable player on special
teams.
Wolfe is the second Bears running back to go down with a season-ending injury. Kevin Jones tore ligaments in his ankle during the preseason.
The Bears also are expected to be without tight end Desmond Clark (neck) and safety Kevin Payne (back) for Sunday night's game against the Eagles.

All I can say is that the Bears would be fools to not re-sign Garrett Wolfe. He should have been the starter this year. Forte just runs into the backs of his blockers. Sign Wolfe to an extension and TRY GIVING HIM SOME CARRIES for once.
This is why you ALWAYS sign unexpected talent. (Larry Johnson)
Its always better to be crowded at a position than short-handed. We get to learn this lesson yet again.
Now in the past year, we have missed out on
Torry Holt
Marvin Harrison
Larry Johnson
Braylon Edwards
We got
Orlando Pace (sucks)
Frank Omaglyie (sucks sucks sucks!!!)
And that Linebacker thats always hurt. Tinoisoma? Something like that. Lovie ALWAYS signs guys from St Louis and they ALWAYS suck it up.
Well, the Bears will just have to do their homework and look for another good all purpose back in the first or second round of next year's draft. Oh, wait......
Get well Wolfman - the biggest heart on the team!
LOVIE & CO. GOTTA GO!!!
First, I would like to wish a speedy recovery to Garrett Wolf. The Bears could have signed Larry Johnson. They could have drafted a running back. This team is not only slow on the field, but they are slow in making quality moves with signing and releasing players.
I miss Mike Dikta and they type of players that surrounded him. Mike McCaskey runined this organization. Mr. Trench tried to run the organization and ran the best coach we had out of town.
This team does not have any type of personality!
well..... i guess they could pick up larry johnson now..... oh wait
I certainly do not like to see players get injured and I wish him a speedy recovery. With that said please cut him and let him go. Another genius draft pick by LOVIE DOVIE who has done nothing for this team except make it painful for us to watch him and most of his draft picks. Let some other Dumb a** GM and head coach have him.
I think you mean "blood in his urine" and not the reverse.
