Bears coach Lovie Smith sounded content today with the performance of Jay Cutler during Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Bears quarterback had an erratic evening, overthrowing his receivers several times. Cutler's final pass was deflected and picked off by Sean Jones to seal the Eagles' win.
"Sometimes you overthrow the ball," Smith said. "I don't think it's any more than that. I like a lot of the things Jay did (with) protecting the football, which gave us an opportunity at the end to win. Jay would be the first guy to say that we need to get some of those throws."
Cutler completed 24-of-43 passes for 171 yards, with one touchdown, an interception, and a passer rating of 63.2.
Smith was asked if he is worried about Cutler falling into bad habits.
"No," Smith said. "He made good decisions last night. He overthrew a few passes. That happens with all quarterbacks. Jay was active throughout. He brought us back, brought our team back, and put us in position to win the game. That's what you judge everything by. You look at the full body of work. He put our team in position to win the game (and) we weren't able to hold on."

I . know what the issue is. I figured it out. Lovie's denial or refusal to see reality. It really is simple...
HE IS RETARDED!
Lovie is such a token. He didn't look at the body of work when he benched Vasher. Lovie sucks the Bears sucks and so do the owners. Next year all the guys will be jumping ship to go to a new team to revive their careers. Tommie in Tennessee and Vasher in Houston. Then Chicago will say that plyaers come there to end their careers. PS. Ron Turner needs to go. I blame him over Cutler anyday.
Lovie if it smells like crap, looks like crap and taste like crap is it really Bear Football?
Fire Lovie-Dovie and his brain dead buffoon assistants.
The ship is sinking, the rats are running away and Lovie-Dovie continues to say "everything's great..." George Halas is turning over in his grave listening to this imbecile.

We bears fans are Screwed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Andy h, get real. Sports are big business. We are not talking high school or recreational. These are people who are getting paid big bucks to perform. The Bears have one of the highest average ticket prices in the NFL at about $88. People should expect to see a win once in a while for those prices. And regarding the media, beleive me, if the Bears were winning, they would be media darlings, with everyone drooling over them.
Sweet 34-a...
As if YOU of all people have ANY idea as to what level Cutler is prepared?
Just face it: the guys sucks and you were DEAD wrong.
You may be content, Lovie, with his performance(Hey, at least he didn't throw 5 interceptions, right?)but I am not! You, sir , are an enabler, sort of like the over-permissive mother who says of her son on death row,
"oh, he's really a nice boy!" You've lost more games than you won and the playoffs are now a long-forgotten dream. Time to stop trying to "accentuate the positive", there is no positive, here. Time for Lovie, Turner and Angelo to go.
You got it right WindyCityExile...rather than pointing out footwork, technique, or fundamentals that Jay needs to work on or why he missed those throws-Lovie in his generic way says "he was happy how he played" and "sometimes you overthrow the ball" and you wonder why no one ever develops under Lovie. If he was a bit more critical and understood why the team fails in this area or that, maybe the team might not make the same mistake game after game. This team lacks leadership, discipline (too many penalties) that makeup a successful football team.
One thing I do Love about Lovie is no matter how bad things get he is always level headed and will never throw a player or coach under the Bus.....
He is not the best interview, but I am starting to hate the media, and the way sports are being represented anyway...so Kudos to you Lovie.
Sports are positive win or lose.......Do not take it so seriously people
Lovie is either dumber than I thought or he is being controlled by the Master of Puppets (aka Jerry the Bear Fan killer)
And THAT is why the Bears are a poorly coached team...
Instead of trying to understand WHY Cutler missed those passes (late read, footwork, arm mechanics, etc.) Lovie simply shrugs and moves on. Brady doesn't miss those passes. Neither do Manning or Brees or any other quarterback who forces himself or is forced to work on fundamentals. Is it any wonder why very few Bears players IMPROVE under this coaching staff, yet seem to flourish elsewhere?
Cutler is talented, but sloppy and inconsistent. He needs a real coach and a strategically sound system that focuses on developing its players or Angelo's trade will go down as one of the biggest fiascoes in NFL history.
The Bears don't have a first round draft pick until 2012. If they don't start drilling fundamentals (tackling anyone?) and really developing their current players, they are going to sink to the bottom of the division. And soon.
If you accept mediocrity, that's what you'll get.

Lovie, what you fail to mention is why it is you cannot prepare him better?
