Jay Cutler overthrew three wide-open receivers for potential touchdowns, and the Bears failed to connect on perhaps their last realistic opportunity to make a playoff push as the Philadelphia Eagles prevailed 24-20 Sunday night at Soldier Field.
The Bears fell to 4-6 with the loss and the Eagles improved to 6-4.
The Eagles took their opening possession and drove 68 yards in nine plays before settling for a 25-yard field goal by David Akers. The drive included a 34-yard run by Michael Vick, who stepped in for one play to replace quarterback Donovan McNabb.
McNabb passed to fellow Chicago native Jason Avant for a 13-yard TD with 2:48 left in the first quarter. Akers converted and the Eagles had a 10-0 lead. The eight-play, 76-yard drive was aided by two Bears penalties. McNabb is a product of Mount Carmel High School and Avant went to Carver.
The Bears got on the board with a 45-yard field goal from Robbie Gould with 14:45 left in the second period. The Bears botched two TD chances on that drive when Cutler overthrew tight end Greg Olsen and then wide receiver Devin Hester.

Gould added a 28-yard field goal with 9:59 to go until halftime to make the score 10-6. The score was set up by a 72-yard run by Kahlil Bell, who was activated on Friday. It was his first NFL carry.
Gould made another 28-yard field goal, his third of the game, as the Bears closed out the half trailing 10-9.
Gould's fourth field goal of the night from 49 yards out gave the Bears a 12-10 lead with 10:26 left in the third quarter.
The Eagles struck on a 48-yard TD pass from McNabb to Desean Jackson, who beat safety Al Afalava. Akers converted for a 17-12 Philadelphia lead.
The Bears regained the lead when Cutler lofted a 15-yard TD pass to tight end Kellen Davis. The Bears then converted a two-point conversion on a Cutler pass to Matt Forte to give them a 20-17 lead with 2:52 to go in the third period.
With 12:38 remaining in regulation, Bears cornerback Charles Tillman forced a fumble by LeSean McCoy. The fumble was recovered by Afalava.
Gould attempted his fifth field goal of the night from 48 yards, but it was blocked by Antonio Dixon, and the Eagles took over at their own 38.
From there, the Eagles would drive 62 yards as McCoy capped it with a 10-yard TD run with 5:31 to go.
The Bears' final possession resulted in an interception by Tracy White that was intended for Olsen.
The Bears travel to Minnesota next Sunday to face Brett Favre and the Vikings in a 3:15 p.m. start.

Hey Lovie Smith Sucks Ass...
First I want to say that I'm truly sorry you mother gave you a name that probably got you teased a lot in school.
And, when you call people retards and make special olympics jokes and think it's okay because you apologized first, wow are you off the charts. Offense taken. Because you knew better and you sunk to a new low.
Let's not sugarcoat this. Ron Turner's playcalling basically allows the Bears to face third and long offensive series after offensive series. Unless you are playing the Bears' defense, you usually don't end up being able to convert a high percentage of third and 6+ yards in the NFL. Throwing naked screens to Hester. Throwing 2 year dump-offs to backs and receivers. Trying to stuff the ball into a 9 man front with the Bears undersized and aging offensive line. Not being able to put plays in that allow your offense to exploit a banged up Eagles secondary. These are all things on Ron Turner. The only way for Cutler to thrive until the Bears offensive line is somehow revamped into a bigger and meaner line, is to have designed roll outs and let Cutler start calling his own plays. This is our 2nd go round with Turner. How did the first one end? How is the second one going? Ask yourself!
Also, if Lovie's calling the shots on defense for his beloved Tampa 2 gap defense and the results are what they are, why is he still leading the defense-let alone the team?
Milton Bradley or Jerry Angelo???
Who is the Man of the Year here??
Hopefully they are all reading these messages....NOT.
Blackhawks. Set your sights on the Blackhawks. Now that's a winning Chicago team! Class all the way!
The opposition's side

Hey JK,
In Denver he was 17-1 when the defense gave up 17 points or less.
What a loser
Stats are for losers, Bearfan, like you and your JayBaby. He lost in Denver and he's losing in Chicago, and that's the only stat that counts.
Jeff George threw for 4,000 yards, too, Loser.
I've been going thru the comments and wow, the language! LOL!!
Lovie Smith is way too passive/aggressive.
I have worked with passive/aggressive people and they should not be allowed to manage anything.
Lovie has to bench the dorks who refuse to put forth the effort and put the killers out on the field but he does the opposite.
During the pre-season there was so much hope despite the coaches. The biggest pre-season surprise was Johnny Knox. Where's he been? Not in the game as consistently as I expected.
Jay is fed up and demoralized. We all know he's better than what he's been doing.
Just fed up with Lovie's lah-dee-dah, aw shucks attitude. If they were winning every game then we could just ignore it.
The season is toast, I blame the coaching staff. It starts at the top. Very sad and unfair for the loyal Bears fans.
Hey cow town at least we dont have to watch Orton win the SB with Denver
But I dont care if Cutler throws 10 picks and we lose to the Pack. That will only hasten the departure of the current regime.
The joy of watching Farve win a SB in a Viking uniform and giving all the fudgepacker fans the s#!t they deserve is will be priceless
Hey JK,
With a different coach and coordinator JC threw for 4600 yards and made the Pro Bowl you moron
We did lose Kampmann and Harris (the Harris loss is the big one). But we will still pick Cutler 5 times in a few weeks. Woodson is going to eat you guys for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We will clinch your losing season! Chicago: Where QBs go to die! And where fans think an 18-pick QB is "one of the best QBs in the NFL."
How'd ya'all like that - you can kiss my ass !!!
Career Loser Cutler lost again.
Blame the GM. Blame the coach. Fire the O C.
Won't matter. The JayBaby is into you for $50M, and you can't fire him!
Time to blindfold Lovie-Dovie and his cadre of clowns and shove them off the plank.
Period.
Mark Liptak
They lost, but I wasn't all that disappointed. The game was a lot better than I expected it to be. Cutler missed some open receivers, but he's getting a bit gun shy since he's getting his ass kicked on almost every play. The D wasn't terrible and the O was about average. At least they had a chance. I didn't even bother watching against the Bengals or Cardinals on nice days when there was a lot of other stuff to do. I sure wasn't going to pay for NFL network to watch the debacle in San Fran.
What now? It doesn't look good with the Vikings coming up. Yes, I saw that Hester actually got pantsed! How's that for a wardrobe malfunction?
Lovie should have gone for it on 4th and 2 on the Eagles 30 yard line. Instead he tries for the 49 FG that would have given the Bears a commanding 6 point lead. Hey genius! An Eagles TD still beats you even if you make the damn field goal! Chance of getting 2 yards at least as good as nailing the 49 yarder. Plus, maybe we would have been able to push it into the endzone.

"Jay Cutler brings fire to the field, and has a burning desire to win. I like that."
-------------------------
LOL
Never thought I would say this but at least we have the Blackhawks 7 in a row!!!!!!!!!!!
OH NO WE SUCK AGAIN!
bearfan is once again right - part of my "why does everyone digress" tiraid. According to Lovie's post game comments, the team is still in it. A lot of football left to go.
I'd also like to know where Adrian Peterson is. It's obvious that he and this new Bell kid give us a better chance at gaining yardage on the ground. It really doesn't matter what players they bring in here, with this coaching staff, it's a hopeless cause.
Watching the Bears stand around while no less than 6 Eagles tackle Matt Forte should be a wake up call for Lovie and Angelo. Last year, Forte made a lot of yards because, last year, he had some blocking. Turner should just give up and let Cutler call his own game.
And while we are getting rid of people that are not doing their jobs, get rid of the grounds keepers in Soldier Field.
Any coaching staff that can take the greatest special teams weapon in NFL History and turn him into an avg 3rd receiver on a horrible offensive team needs to go.
They will never fire LS due to the money owed to him. At least not this year. RT will be fired at the end of the season.
It wont make a difference because the cover 2 does not work without a pass rush.
oh, please, the bears stink. who ever made the schedule, had to be out of his or her mind to put the bears on national tv. just wake me up when we ever reach the playoffs.
First lovie should get fired i don't give a damn how much they have to pay him cause he suck loook at other coaches screamin at players when they make a bad play. when chicago bears players make a bad play he just sits like a fuckin bitch do something u fuckin mother fucker
In the classic words of the Japanese groundskeeper in Major League..."They're shitty"
It starts with Coaching and then look at the O-line. HOW ABOUT PLAYING THE RUNNING BACK WHO GETS YARDS, WHERE DID BELL GO? Guy comes in and gets yards...sits on the bench? WHY????? Coaching...THEY have to go!!!
I know Bell in not the second coming of #34 but he got yards, go with what works.
The Cutler trade will work out great for the Bears........... he os going to get Lovie and Co, fired............ two first rd picks is a cheap price for that
did anyone else see hester's crack? Haha still laughing...
Devin Hester is a fraud! he quits on almost every route but who would blame him as he is getting his ass handed to him on dumb ass Turner's bubble screens. Turner can't coach ....he needs to go
Joe,
Great comments!!! You are right on. Indy loses more than half of their defensive backfield and keeps winning.
We take players and do not put them in a position to succeed.
He Sucks...Hub, Boers, everyone in the media knows it. He acts like he has some 'secret' plan to win games. He is a fraud and should be fired immediately. Lovie smith should have been coaching the Bears in 1965, because his defense might have worked then..Not now..
Where's the coaching? 6 season, 2 playoffs? A losing record since the Superbowl? They've won 1 more game than they have lost since week 7 of the Superbowl year. Why does Forte digress? Why does Hester digress? Why does Olson digress? Why does a pro-bowl QB digress? What happened to Tommie Harris? Nathan Vasher?
This coaching staff is a fraud, can't develop players, can't prepare for games, and have no sense of urgency. 5 million a year for a head coach who has essentially destroyed the team since '06. Show him the door and get a real NFL coaching staff.
Sure looks like Jay has three or four chins and getting a pretty big gut... being a beer connisseur as he is that's to be expected but the combination could be lethal for a diabetic. Just no getting around the fact that he is a LOSER and as long as he is in Illinois the Bears can count on not being any good. The Broncos organization was very smart about recognizing he really is not a true "franchise QB" and trading him away. While reality has hit Denver (who also won't make the playoffs) ya gotta think they have a brighter future without Cry-Baby-Jay.
Bring back DITKA!
we need a bailout !!!! you can't tax the bears they aren't white and they don't work
Ahh yes...Green Bay Fatckers, I rather live here in chicago then to live in a smelling like cow poop and cheese state.
If Olsen was black he would be run the F the outta town. There, I said it!
"bleak"?? What are you talking about?? Everybody already knew the Bears had no chance to get into playoff months ago. On top of that, they alreay sold the first two rounds of draft picks in the draft in 2010. I've said it for years and I say it again. The franchise is going nowhere until the McKaskeys sell the team and Angelo fires himself!!!
Remember what Lovie said last year? "We're close", he said after the season was over. He was right, we just didn't know he was talking about the toilet!!
Jay is a good QB. Jay Cu##tler is a creep that give me the heebie jeebies. Watch out for your kids. Jay's fundamentals were horrible tonight and I wonder who is responsible? Pep Hamilton? Ron Turner? How can he not set his feet and throw like he's a freelancer with no discipline?
Hey Green Bay Packers you just lost two of your top players you wont make the playoffs and the Fudgepackers suck
But thats ok with your smartass comments. We know we suck and have no first or second round pick but at least we dont live in a one horse cow dung town where entertainment revolves around bowling night with rotten stanky cheese hats.
I hope the pack makes the playoffs so they can lose to the Brett Farve led Vikings for the 3rd time. Hey I have become a Viking fan this season and will root them on to the SB. I hope you feel great watching it in some hellhole tavern in smalltown america
Have a shlitz and go f yourself
Green Bay and Broncos still suck and will always suck. But they will not fire this coaching staff during the season but hopefully at the end of the season they will.
Thanks Jay for ruining the year for Chicago. Lost the Olympics, now Oprah, and a Bears postseason. LOL! Wish you all down there a great, long winter. Don't worry, the flying bullets will keep you warm.
Listen!!! Yeah Cutler has been bad, to a point, but the play calling of Turner all year will ruin any Quarterbacks rhythm/confidence through out the year. 3rd &11 Wr scr. 2nd offensive possession of da game, 1st & 10, 3wr, rb/fb, Forte goes out as a receiver, Mckie by himself in da backfield.....gee i wonder what they're gonna do, 2 yd out to Olsen. Pathetic.
Devin Hester mooning the national TV audience on the Bears final drive just about says it all for this horrible season. Goodbye Lovie and good riddance Turner. You are responsible for turning a mediocre team into a terrible team. Congrats.
Did you guys ever notice how I stand on the side lines by my self for I am the only one on the side lines good enough for me. I pout when I throw a bad ball -- I pout when I throw a pick. I sucked at Vandy and I sucked in Denver. My record is 23-28 in the NFL.
I am Jaysus Christ!
Wondering what McNabb said to Cutler. "Hey Dude, thanks for the win. What was your offshore account number again?"
"I am set for life and I just care about ME! and my INTs!"
Hmmm....I'm not really sure what this means.
Dem Bears, dey jus no good.
Hey LSSA, your "best QB in the NFL" just threw his 18th pick tonight. It ended the game (which has happened a couple times now). If he's the best QB in the NFL, I'm Jesus Christ!
The difference maker tonight was the lack of pass protection from the Bears line. I'm guessing Jay is getting his passes off fast, and overthrowing a few routes, as he cannot settle into the pocket. The Bears' overpaid for their ineffective O-line, and are getting a substandard return on the investment.
Did you see the protection McNabb enjoyed? He might have had 8-10 seconds in most of his pockets to pick and choose where to throw the ball. Cutler has all of 1.5 seconds to choose a route and let it fly.
Jay Cutler brings fire to the field, and has a burning desire to win. I like that. The Bears need changes (at head coach and O-line) but Jay is not one of them.
You Bronco fans worry about your own piece of **** QB and team. You guys make me sick.
No offense to the special olympics, but Lovie Smith is the smartest retard in football. Smart to fleece the Bears for a ton of money because, 'He's a good Christian', yet retarded enough to ruin a team pounding his cover 2, and shitty offense..You have the best QB in the NFL, you ruined the best special teams player in Devin Hester by making him into a wide receiver..You suck Lovie get the fuck out of town..

Oh, I forgot to mention: The Bears suck!
Why! Why! What I see is a quarterback who does not want to play and a coach who is blind to the reality of the problem with Cutler. Forget it, Cutler does not want to play for the Bears or maybe just Lovey. There is no fire in his eyes, no zip in his step, and definitely no accuracy in his throws. He does not want to win, he just shows up in order to collect a check. This is a Bears management issue and not just that of Cutler.
I can't believe there are that many bad quarterbacks out there, it must be the Bears management and coaching. Cutler is a good quarterback, he is just not motivated to play with the Bears. I was at the San Francisco game and saw the way Cutler walked out on to the field. There was nothing, nothing and more nothing in his steps that suggested he was there to play to win.
You know if our 1st round, All-Pro of the future TE was really all he was cracked up to be... He would have caught that first pass for a TD. That pass was not nearly as overthrown as the NBC guys/media is making it out to be... That should have been caught. Why are the guys catching the passes not being held responsible for the passing game mess?
It's funny that a lot of people were calling Cutler the NFC North's best QB at the start of the season! Gotta love that! Hey Bears fans, don't feel so bad. Cutler threw 50 percent fewer picks tonight than his per-game average this season! Everyone should watch that last pass he overthrew... The one where the receiver beat the CB by at least two steps. Oh boy was that a thing of beauty! Have fun playing out the string. You might win one more!
Ridiculous get rid of Angelo and Phillips! Get big receivers.
You Bear fans keep supporting this pathetic organization because there is no hope with this no passion, no fire, no motivation, stone face Lovie Smith.
Ron Turner offensive cordinader, 10 yd pass to the right, 10 yd pass to the left lets try a 10 yd pass over the middle..... are you kidding me?
Welcome to Da Bears Mr. Cutler your career now is in limbo.
Angelos along with Smith and his whole staff have to go and go fast, miracles do happen don't they?
I am having a gourmet chef prepare a Filet Mignon for me tonight but first I have to take my insulin shot to clear my vision. Geez, I have thrown 18 INTs this season and I still ROCK. After the filet -- I am going to have some of Elliots girls come over and take care of me. I will pay them well -- they need to have work too.
I ROCK - I am Jay!
Jay, Jay, Jay. I never ever thought I would cheer for Michael Vick ever again, but when he's playing against you, I'll make an exception. How does it feel to be a gigantic fraud? How does it feel not to hold up your end of the bargain? How does it feel to be known for your int's? You don't mind, you say? Oh, that's right. I forgot you were all about yourself. I bet you were thinking of what you were going to have for dinner when you threw that last interception. I bet this season doesn't bother you one bit.
On the Pro Bowl -- you know I know that was a fluke. The idiot voters made the call three weeks before the season end when I had the Broncos in the playoffs for sure. Then the team imploded due to no fault of my own.
So I made the PRO BOWL in front of Tom Brady and Philip Rivers -- and guess what -- I sucked in the PRO BOWL and guess what? I threw a INT in the PRO BOWL too! Haha --
Fire Ron Turner.
You have that great probowl QB and Turner can't call or make any plays to put Cutler in the position to win.
Just fire Ron Turner.

If Lovie says he likes the players he's got one more time, then we need to put him the crazy house.
Stop looking up at the Monitor, your answers arn't up there, they are on the field. Idiot.
One INT tonight, that's an improvement. But some of those "over-throws" should've been caught. If he had oh maybe a terrell owens or randy moss type receiver, some of those would've been caught fore sure. I still have have to question, this was Pro-Bowl QB last year and Orton wasn't. After the trade, Orton played better in the first half and Cutler can't even smell the Pro-Bowl let alone the Playoffs. I'm still questioning how he's being handled.
I can't believe this this worthless dumn ass coach said they still have a chance. I honestly think this scrub was dropped on his head as a baby.
wow.lol. the bears suck more than ever. lol.
Their playoff hopes are bleak... Wow, that's an understatement. It's not surprising that the Bears area actually worse this year than last... and that being after they traded for "superstar". Get used to this Chi-town, Jay-baby ain't your saviour.
Sorry Bears fans -- I threw yet another game losing INT. Call me Mr. Interception. I screwed over the Broncos and now I am screwing over the Bears! Haha! The joke is on you Chicago! I suck and I know it but I still have over $20M in the bank so who cares -- I am set for life and I just care about ME! and my INTs!
