Bears get buried early, fall 41-21 to Cardinals

| 28 Comments | BREAKING STORY
By Fred Mitchell

The Bears are not who we thought they were.

They are worse.

The Arizona Cardinals carved through the Bears defense with virtually no resistance Sunday and emerged with a convincing 41-21 victory in front of 60,327 fans at sun-drenched Soldier Field.

Arizona's Kurt Warner threw five touchdown passes.

The embarrassing loss left the Bears (4-4) in dire straits when it comes to playoff possibilities with a Thursday night game scheduled in San Francisco.

Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris was ejected from the game with 13:55 left in the first period after he slugged Cardinals right guardDeuce Lutui.

Linebacker Hunter Hillenmeyer was injured two minutes later, but walked off the field on his own power. He later had tape applied to his ribs and returned to the lineup when the Bears defense took the field again.

As the game progressed, the Bears lost the services of cornerback Charles Tillman (shoulder), safety Al Afalava (shoulder) and special teams back Garrett Wolfe (back).

The Cardinals (5-3) scored on an 11-yard pass from Warner to Larry Fitzgerald with 12:12 to go in the first quarter at the end of an 8-play, 81-yard drive. Fitzgerald was able to break away from a tackle attempt by Tillman.

The Bears responded with a 6-play, 90-yard scoring drive to tie the game 7-7 with 4:13 to go in the opening period. The drive included a 42-yard pass from Jay Cutler to Devin Hester and a TD toss of 33 yards to tight end Greg Olsen.

Arizona scored on its second possession, as well.  A 9-play, 74-yard drive wound up with a 6-yard TD pass from Warner to tight end Ben Patrick and the Cardinals led 14-7.

The Cardinals continued their offensive dominance on their next possession. Warner passed 17 yards to Fitzgerald to complete a 6 play, 70 yard drive. Neil Rackers converted and Arizona went up 21-7 with 11:19 left until halftime.

Warner continued to exploit the Bears defense by leading a 10-play, 86-yard drive that ended with a 15-yard TD to tight end Anthony Becht. The Cardinals led 28-7 after scoring on all of its first four possessions.

The Cardinals took a 31-7 into the locker room at halftime after Rackers booted a 43-yard field goal. The Bears' Robbie Gould previously had a 48-yard attempt partially blocked by D. Rodgers-Cromartie. The kick was caught in the end zone by Antrel Rolle, who returned it 59 yards to set the Cardinals up for a field goal try four plays later.

Rackers added a 30-yard field goal midway through the third period to make the score 34-7.

The Bears added their second touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Cutler led a 9-play, 93-yard drive that end with a 3-yard pass to Olsen.

Leinart threw an interception that Zach Bowman returned 39 yards to the Arizona 28. Three plays later, Cutler hit Olsen from 20 yards out for a TD. Gould's kick made it 34-21 with 9:04 left.

Cutler threw an interception to strong safety Matt Ware with 6:21 left and he returned it to the Bears' 17. The Cardinals turned that into a fifth TD pass by Warner, this time to Steve Breaston.

I cant phathom Urlacher sitting out a whole season for a dislocated wrist. This team has no heart.

Talent in a bad environment can not flourish...exhibit A.....Ced Benson. If the Bears knew what they we're doing (in a number of departments) they would have a talented combo that at least would keep the games close so at least the QB could make a play to when the game late. Forte can catch but he is slow and not a work horse. I don't see elite talent when i watch him play. Last year he just got the ball all the time. Look at why the Bengals have won all those close games.... Benson kept the game close and Palmer was able to make plays to win the game late (except for when they played the Bears and it was 28-0 after the coin toss).....releasing Benson was foolish especially since the charges were dropped a week or two later. Nobody is man enough (especially the inept Chicago media) to admit it.... See ya in the playoffs and Pro bowl Cedric! (and hopefully I see Angelo and the Chicago sports writers in the

It appears that Virginia McCaskey likely had the Honey Bears disbanded after the Superbowl winning season (Superbowl XX) over 20 years ago:

Sorry about that. In my prior post, Valderbilt should be Vanderbilt, but most of you probably realized that. The spell checker did catch it, but I missed it.

Another Bronco (and Bear) fan here. I grew up with the Bears, but after being in the Denver area since the mid-80's I have finally gotten more attached to the Broncos.

I need to correct something I saw about Cutler. Yes, he (and the team) had a losing record when he was a Broncos starter (17-20) at at Valderbilt (11-34), but I remember him being 24-1 in high school.
He had some good moments today, but I could see when he got out of sync.

Orton had actually taken some hard hit of his own. Just about all quarterbacks in the NFL do.

Hopefully the Bears will get it together. The defense just didn't show up today again. As in a couple of games ago, it would have been tough for *any* quarterback to save the game. It was going so badly, the network stopped coverage in Denver and I needed to go to the NFL Ticket coverage on DirecTV.

A Broncos fan - following Cutler on November 9, 2009 12:40 AM

OFF TOPIC ALERT. Why in the world would you get rid of, or not have cheerleaders?! I had no idea I just assumed everyone had them. That is lame. Bring them back & to save money Lovie could also coach the cheerleaders and they could all where those big headphones, like Lovie, with the soft smooth Jazz playing in them, like Lovie, and then they could all FALL ASLEEP! AHH just like the defense. He could then find even more reason to blankly stare up at the scoreboard as he could also be watching Sleeping Beauty.

A Bronco fan - following Cutler on November 9, 2009 12:29 AM

YA Broncos posted this gem, "keep on telling yourself that jay is a good qb he cares more about himself than the team".
If Jay only cared about himself would he stand in there every game and take a beating while waiting until the last moment to pass the ball because nothing was open? NO! He'd dump it off long before anyone got near him (Hmm, sounds like Orton when he see's the rush). In hoping that the extra second he takes will make something develop downfield, he's trying to make a play happen and also setting himself up to get creamed. Oh and he does get it sometimes but he gets up and takes a hit again if that's what it takes to try and make something happen.
Think idiot YA Broncos fan think. I'm a Broncos fan but I see what's real, not life through team colored glasses.

WINDY CITY WAKEUP on November 8, 2009 10:20 PM

You guys have it all wrong.

The best thing that can happen for this team is for that old bag McKaskey to pull a "Dollar" Bill Wirtz and drop dead.

Then the transformation of an organization will happen.

lol

I know others will disagree but Tommie Harris must really be a good player because the 2 games the defense got shalacked in by Cin and AZ were the only 2 games Harris didn't play in. The Bears have been competitive in all the other games. I know it doesn't seem like it because he can be an idiot at times but Harris is the core of the Def. Why is Ogunleye a captain? I think Brown would be a better captain for this team that Og.

Do any of the Bear defensive backs know how to tackle. If you tackle them low, they go down. I don't know how many times I'd seen them try to tackle around the shoulders and just bounce off the runner.

I am a Broncos fan, and I think the only reason other Bronco fans are coming on here and talking smack is because of two reasons: Number 1, as soon as Cutler got traded Bears fans were going onto our forums and saying thanks for helping them win the Super Bowl, and how stupid the Broncos were for getting rid of the "franchise" QB. Number 2 is that the Broncos have the Bears first round pick... the worst the Bears do, the better our pick is. Also I remember watching that preseason game and Bears fans were chanting "Super Bowl!!" and acting like Cutler was the final piece of the puzzle.

First off, all the bronco fans need to mind their own business. I wonder how long it will be before they are all complaining about how Orton is not Elway.
Second, things are as bad as everyone thinks, but not in the way they think. Kurt Warner is not washed up, he takes the same kind of beating that Cutler (or any Bears OB) has to because of a usually poor O-line. It has been this way for the last couple of seasons, remember how bad the cards were at running last year? He is a professional (unlike da bears) and was not going to have a bad game today. Lovie smith is the main problem, not Jerry Angelo. Lovie is the D coordinator; he is where the “buck stops.” Lovie is supposed to get the team ready for a game. Lovie is the one who has filled the team up with cronies and buddies, whether they are competent or not. All that said, our D is not as bad as it looks because of injuries to Brian U., Hillenmeyer (walking wounded), Harris (wounded as well), Pisa T., the ever nicked Bowman, a surgically –repaired Tillman, etc. If people want to run and scream they should blame injuries and Lovie, but not in that order. Angelo gets bad publicity because the high picks fail fail fail. But what about Olsen, Hester, Knox, getting Cutler, Bowman, Forte (don’t blame him, you try running through that miserable line that is probably coached by a lovie-buddy) ? It is so easy to whine about everything, but a total house clearing would mean this team would go nowhere for the next 2-3 seasons; let’s start with Lovie before we throw the whole thing away.

Florida Bear on November 8, 2009 8:56 PM

Yes the Bears O'Line, and D'Line are not what they use to be...yet do Not Blame Cutler. When was the last time the Bears had a QB who threw for over 300+ yards and still lost the game? Makes me wonder how much Urlacher's injury hurt this team and exposed them for who they really are. Harris is done for the last 2 years, Briggs is not the leader Urlacher was...and where was Adawale since the coach has taken over calling defense?
Cutler has no time to throw the ball yet still has over 300 yard games, where Orton has all day to throw and not even close. Get some players and coaching in here and utilize the talented QB you have, Cutler is not the issue.
Maybe if we had a demanding Coach as Coach Singletary, we would be looking to the playoffs. Get rid of all of them.

clean house already on November 8, 2009 8:54 PM

something is clearly rotting from the coaches up. There are too many bad former Bears players doing really well elsewhere and with this current stink fest that would make a Bombay sewer seem like a nice stroll through the park...it's time to start looking at the coaches and management as the entire Bears system seems beyond repair.

It's really time to get out the power washer and clean out the entire coaching staff and few of management types as it's painful to watch how truly awful they have made this team. I'm assuming the networks are lining up their C teams for the remaining games as definitely not worth wasting A-game talent.

Even at the height of mediocrity in the 70s and early 80s the team was at least watchable with a superstar like Payton. This entire organization has absolutely nothing except for good kickers...but wait this isn't the MLS.

A Bronco Fan - following Cutler on November 8, 2009 8:53 PM

Sorry there are so many asinine Bronco fans posting stuff on your forum, maybe it's just payback for some Bears fans posting equally stupid things on Denver forum's. Most Bronco fans aren't like that, you know how the silent majority works. I'm a long time Bronco fan and have elevated the Bears to my #2 team because of Cutler. What some of my fellow Bronco fans are posting here is crap about Cutler because the Bears are falling apart at the seams. The exact same thing happened to Denver last year with a whole pile of starters injured. We were down to something like #7 on the running back depth chart, and our defense was beat up & ranked at the bottom somewhere. We loved Jay in Denver but he butted heads with the new Napolean (who will cost us dearly when Lady Luck gets bored and turns her attention elsewhere) and lost so he was traded. The Bears have Cutler not because McDaniels wanted Orton but because he wanted Cassell!? WOW! Cutler had no defensive support last year and had to force throws that QB's would normally look away from. We actually understood that in Denver but after the trade Cutler was painted as a baby when he was in Denver, he didn't want to go but when he was traded some fans jilted lover syndrome flew into full effect. Even though Cutler had interception issues because of constantly playing from way behind most of the time we certainly loved what he could and was becoming. A world class QB if given support and time and he was ours proboaly for his career. His first 3 years stats were not horrible and actually compared to Elway and Peyton Manning in their first 3 years. He will develop into something special. Let me give you a list of names and each one is a reason why we actually enjoyed Cutler when he was in Denver. Bubby Brister, Jeff Brohm, Chris Miller, Gus Frerote, Jarious Jackson, Todd Husak, Steve Beuerlein, Danny Kanell, Matt Mauck, Bradlee VanPelt, Preston Parsons, Brian Griese & Jake Plummer. These are our QB's on our roster after John Elway and before Cutler, take a good look at these names (Plummer was good but not so much when it really counted, but I liked him for the most part) and also think close to 8 years of time gone by. For me as a Bronco fan it still hurts that he's gone. You're hearing from a lot of jilted lovers but their anger should be directed at McDaniels, even when he was 6 -0. It will be directed at him before too long anyways when things turn and they decide to remove their lips from his butt. Denver fans mostly didn't like McDaniels at first but when fortunate wins started to pile up, they wanted badly to back someone & they suctioned onto him hard. Sad. He was hired because of his great offensive mind and our Denver offense is now a mediocre with great talent (so -so at QB). (Imagine Denver's offense with Cutler in Chicago this year, Bear's fans would drool, but you may need a new OC). Yes the great high flying Patriot offense transplated to Denver is actually a small and little offense that doesn't pass downfield & is just 1,000 different variations of a 5 yard pass and hope to break a run after catch. Maybe McDaniels is wrong and that the players are actually important and it's not actually just his system as he thinks it is. I guess a conversation with Brady, Moss, Welker etc would produce an opinion an that. I don't like the Patriots but they do move the ball and score points, even somehow without McDaniels. That must be very puzzling to him. We beat the Patriots because after Brady's injury, and he's getting back into the game, for the first time in his career he missed 2 wide open recievers for easy TD's (Moss & Welker). He sure did his gloating and arm pumping on the field when that one ended. ANyways to make a long story short (too late) I'll end it here because believe it or not I was just getting going. Go BRONOCS (& Bears)

How's that trade with Denver working out Bears fan?

Lionel Harrington on November 8, 2009 8:44 PM

1. As mentioned above the Bears defense when it was good, was run by Ron Rivera. Smith fires the guy and ever since the D's been caught in a downward spiral.

2a. This team comes to games unprepared, the schemes are lame, player’s lack fundamental skill training, players play undisciplined, there is a coaching failure to adjust to game situations and to adjust to the strengths and weaknesses of personal. ‘Innovative’ and 'great motivators' are not descriptors used to describe Smith and Turner. Almost worse, is their failure to develop young players, who then escape Chicago and excel on other teams.

2b. Phil Jackson knew how to handle Dennis Rodman and Brian Williams. Lovie didn’t have a clue for what to do about Benson. How many championships did the Phil-master win with Rodman. Compare that simple stat with Smith and Benson.

2c. There is a rather ironic joke in today's New York Times about Ron Turner taking an already simple offense and making it simpler for the AZ game. The reality of that statement creates the sad irony of how this team is coached. The subtext gives a clue to the national perception of this team outside the Chicago market.

2d. What does it mean when television viewers can predict plays ahead of time, know when to use the red flag, and call for playing time for backups (Hanie for Cutler in the latter half of the 4th quarter) better then the coaching staff? I mean really? I teach theater, the guy above who first brought this point up is a college professor. Compared to Smith and staff buddies, that practically makes him a rocket scientist. To quote the great Paco from an earlier post in CST, Lovie Smith needs to go back to Texas and get off that bus running.

3. Great teams win in the trenches. That’s a modus operandi, not a cliché. But it is also a foreign concept in Chicago… for the team and fans alike (see #4 below).

4. Forget the talk about the Bear's needing a wide receiver. That's ridiculous fan-aholic drivel (although even the great Troy said it). Marino had the Marks Brothers, two small speedy guys who could catch the ball. His offensive line gave him time to make the WR connection. See also Steve Smith’s history in Carolina, and then with this in mind peruse again #3. above for a moment of illumination.

5. The Rodney Dangerfield Effect: at halftime’s score of 31-7 the regional game coverage for Chicago vs. AZ was clipped in Texas so viewers could instead enjoy the better match: Green Bay playing in Tampa. There’s no respect. And Packer fans even if you all did lose that game today; you have got to love this.

6. The Chicago media has been soft on the McCaskey’s for years. No. Make that decades. They’ll attack players & management first and always way before they’re going to say anything about where the buck really stops. This get-out-of- jail-free pass covered big daddy Wirtz and Wrigley for just about their entire tenure. Go figure.

7. Ditka for head coach again. Forget about it. Bill Cowher’s the man to turn this team around. And don’t accept the line about McCaskey not eating 4 mil to fire Smith. Attack that spin and don’t let up (re-read #6. above for comprehension and clarity).

BroncofaninDenver on November 8, 2009 8:24 PM

Wow there are a lot of Bronco fans on here.... As a Bears fan I don't love Cutler but he did have a good game and this was not his fault. He did throw a pick but for this guy 1 pick is a great success. This team is awful now and unforttunately, we gave our first rounder away next year so get ready to stink again next year. We should be 2-6. We should have lost to the Seahawks and Steelers folks. I think we end up 7-9 this year which is fitting for Cutler since he has never had a winning record since High School!!! We stink!!!!

Stratmaster on November 8, 2009 8:23 PM

graycap, every day you say everyone and everything having to do with every Chicago sport sucks, therefore everyone just ignores everything you say. Besides, even a blind squirrel...

Wow, if Washed-up Warner can throw five TD's against this defense, can you imagine what the greatest QB of all time who happens to play on the Vikings, will be able to toss. Minnesota could score triple digits. Lovie is doing a great job; I'd give him an extension.

One comment..... Fire Lovie!

uncle turbo on November 8, 2009 8:20 PM

Maybe its just time to realize that the bears are football stupid, that goes for the coaches and players alike. Talent is not the problem, its IQ, the bears players are flat out dumb.

BTW.....Cen Benson sends his regards.

Don't blame Cutler. He doesn't have time to throw or anyone except TE's to throw to. Whatever Lovie calls the Defense is rediculous. Lovie 2? Looks like all DB's give a 10 yard cushion all the way to the end zone.

Hummm....... I have been telling u guys for 5 plus years that Lovie Smith is a weak coach.
U guys are a bit slow on the uptake.

Lovie Smith reminds me of Abe Gibron. The only thing missing is "Melody".

I miss Melody!

Too bad DA BEARS missed the cash for clunkers deadline,
lots of clunkers on this team. Cut Rev. Tommie Harris
tomorrow he does'nt belong here anymore. One question I
have is why does Tillman line up in the parking lot on
coverage? Can any one on D tackle? Enjoy all you season
ticket holders, these games should be fun when it hits
zero degrees. Sorry that was 2 questions see I could get

This team stinks. When the Denver/Chicago trade came I question the trade, I'm still questioning it, wake me up when something good happens

huh? nice comeback.

The only meaningful measurement of a football program is how they progress vs. others. Bears were in the Super Bowl in '06. Cincinnati and Arizona were mediocre at best. In '09 the Angelo/Smith brain trust has us embarrassed by both. They have to go now so that the Bears can begin to recover from the mess they have made.

YA BRONCOS on November 8, 2009 7:57 PM

Maybe part of the problem is they get bOOOOOOOOed by fans in chi-town more than when they play on trhe road you guys suck as fans and its rubing of on your team you should be ashamed to even call yourself bears fans when you treat your own team like that

At least the defense held the 2004 Heisman winner to zero completions. Lovie has to go.

BARNUM SAID A SUCKER IS BORN EVERY MINUTE AND TWO TO TAKE HIM. FANS LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND SEE WHICH IS YOU. IT SEEMS ALL CHICAGO SPORT FANS ARE DOOMED BY THE MIGHTY DOLLAR. CHICAGO OWNERS ONLY CARE ABOUT THE BOTTOM LINE. WHEN THE SUCKERS ARE A NO SHOW THEN YOU WILL SEE A WINNING TEAM. UNTIL THEN HELLO SUCKERS................

"if we ONLY had a QB"

I said this 3 weeks ago and I believe it even more after today - the Bears will not win another division game this season. They will lose both games to Minnesota, the Pack at home, and even Detroit will get their second victory of the year at the expense of the Bears. Jerry Angelo and Lovie Smith just don't get it.

NO DEFENSE NO DEFENSE NO DEFENSE. You call that a defense. Come om. I guess Lovie can't run a defense either. I feel for all you season ticket holders. Talk about buying a lemon. They obviously don't have a scouting department, the General Mgr. has no clue, the coaches are in the same boat with the G.M., and the players are pathetic. My God the special teams looked like crap also. I agree with Tony. Did Jay give up 41 points today? NO DEFENSE. Hey fans don't forget we have very few draft choices next year. The only ones enjoying this is the McCaskey's bank account. This will be like this next year. They haven't won the Super Bowl since the got rid of the Honey Bears. Now get rid of the G.M. and this awful coaching staff. One last thing, if I were the head coach Tommie Harris would have been gone right after I walked into the locker room. What a team player.

Yo, yabronco, u'll be 6-5, it's fairly obvious you've been exposed.

look how creative AZ was with their Reverse play. Of course, the way or DE was playing so far outside, we left a hole that didn't need blockers. Lovie what defense do you call that anyway? The spread Defense?

Ralphy, great point about conditioning. I have wondered the same for the past few years. Each year, major injuries each week. They seem soft and with Lovie, it doesn't surprise me.

They, like another CHI team on the North side, have NO HEART. Cutler is the only guy out there working...and he is getting his head beat in. Thanks Jerry, for losing our 2nd round pick. We didn't need anything like O-lineman or CB's... No, we are just fine; we just need to execute better.

Time to see if Melton or Gilbert are any good...

frustrated34 on November 8, 2009 7:32 PM

This team needs a new attitude from the top town. Lovie Smith is pathetic. He rode Chico Rivera's coat tails to the super bowl and was given unrestricted reign over of our belove-d. He can't cut it as a head coach, D coordinaor, person of insight, motivator, leader, etc, etc, etc....get rid of this guy. He's wasting some good chi-town talent!

Anyone putting this on Cutler was either not watching the game or is just a troll.

IN a hopeless situation, with seriously inexperienced supporting cast, Jay Cutler truly is a "GREAT QB". WHat a performance today. Time to realize the value of this guy, and you get an OC that knows how to pass protect and play call. DO we practice that reverse to Hester? SF ran it today with ease for 10 yards .... we just do not hide it well when we try such plays, there is no deception. THATS WHAT TURNER LACKS .... we are milly vannilly.

YA BRONCOS on November 8, 2009 7:30 PM

Hey broncoview. You team stinks too. They haven't played anybody that's any good until their last game and they got SPANKED. Get used to that happening as lot more this season. Your beloved horses A**es won't be in the superbowl this year. And that's all that counts. That's what the season is all about. Orton? Please.

Ah yes. Orton stinks...he stunk so bad that he had a 21-12 (27-13 now compared to Cutler's 21-24) record with the Bears with the same offensive line, defense and receivers that Cutler had, give or take. The Bears have beaten teams that are collectively 10-21 and lost to teams that are 20-12. The Bears have only beaten 1..count them..1 team with a winning record.
The Broncos on the other hand have beaten teams with a collective 25-22 record, losing to a team with a 4-4 record (same as the Bears). 4 of 6 teams the Broncos beat have had winning records.
According to you, the Bengals at 6-2 (who crushed the Bears but lost to the Broncos), the Cowboys at 5-2, the Patriots at 6-2 and the Chargers at 5-3 are not good teams. Then what does that make the Bears?
Oh yeah 3rd place in their division compared to 1rst place for the Broncos in their respective division.
Let's look at stats for Cutler compared to Orton. Cutler's completion rate is 63.6 for 2,046 yards (7.2 per), 14 tds, 12 interceptions, 19 sacks and a 83.8 rating with a 4-4 record. Orton has a 63.6 completion rate for 1,617 yards (7.0 per), 9 tds, 1 interception, 11 sacks, a 95.5 qb rating and a 6-1 record.
People in glass houses.

This game magnifies how bad Cleveland must be (and might as well throw in one more team when discussing "bad teams".
Bears 4-4 and no way they win in SF. Not enough character on this team to handle a team that believes in discipline, hard work and plays with heart.

GO BRONCOS on November 8, 2009 7:23 PM

i think that cutlers baby powder might be burning the eyes of your o-line maybe thats why that can't see the blitz coming

Just speaking common sense, if I was Lovie's boss, and I listen to his calmness at the post game and his denial, i'd fire him immediately, no questions asked. It's so plain to see Lovie hasn't a clue how to stop the bleeding.

True, Cutler is such a bum. If he was such a magical football player, why did he give up 41 points today?

Actually you are right, the defense in Denver blew last year and is decent this year. The defense in Chicago was average last year and is embarrassingly bad this year. Stupid Cutler.

Jay Cutler is the farthest thing from my mind when I discuss the Bears issues. In fact, he's saved our offense from being the worst offense in the league. Line can't protect anyone, receivers quit on routes routinely throughout the games, running back can't hit a rare hole when it's created.

Face it, Cutler is having a phenomenal season. High completion %, high YPA, high TD passes. His INTs are high but half of them were from inexperienced receivers running the wrong routes, or passes that were tipped in the air because the pressure was closing in on him, or passes he foolishly made to avoid yet another sack.

I'm not saying he's perfect, but he's a damn good QB, who is young and is getting better every week. Broncos fans should find something else to do with their time because ragging on Bears fans makes no sense because Cutler is not the reason why the Bears are horrible, nor would Orton have made it any different here in Chicago.

Lovie's post game press conference is embarrassing. What game did he watch; his calmness scares me. Not to mention that he is seriously in denial.

The blame for this goes directly to Lovie Smith and Jerry Angelo. Lovie can't coach his way out of a paperbag. Sorry, that's the way it is. And all this talk about Marinelli, another BFF. When I heard we were hiring him, I thought, What ?? But we were told he was the best in spite of his loosing record. So how soon will it be before Lovie runs out of BFFs? Can't be soon enough!! And as for Jerry, I am sick of his aversion to 1st and 2nd round draft picks. When Larry Fitzgerald was in the draft I often caught myself daydreaming, what if.....But no, our team doesn't draft 1st rounders no matter how spectacular we hear they are. We ALWAYS trade down. Now the other teams have all the great talent. Acquiring Cutler must have been a mistake. Angelo must have thought he was picking up the phone to order pizza and accidentally called Denver. That's the only way I can think of that trade getting done. Well if the old lady lets Smith and Angelo keep running this team then she must not really be Halas's daughter. She must have been switched at birth and the mistake never caught. A MAJOR change needs to happen. Come on honey, you can do it. GO GINNY! GO GINNY! (come on everyone) GO GINNY! YOU CAN DO IT !

It has been said that; "the complexion of a team is the coach's persona." And that said.....the Bears are NO team b/c Lovie has NO persona. Or if he does, it's dry and dead - just like the Bears football team. Since Lovie's inability and unwillingness to make adjustments in the SuperBowl game, I've been convinced that Lovie needs to go. Hopefully this year, those in charge of making heads roll will also be convinced. WE CHICAGO FANS WANT OUR WINNING PRO FOOTBALL TEAM BACK!!!

Interminable Dross on November 8, 2009 7:15 PM

Hey Bronco fans: You are the least knowledgeable and idiotic sports fans in the entire country. Did you even know you have Hockey and Baseball teams that are good? Sure doesn't look that way when I visit Denver and the Chicago fans outnumber the locals at Coors Field and the Pepsi Center. So not only are you stupid when it comes to the Broncos, you're stupid and undeserving of other sports teams as well.

Additionally, get lives. If you think going out of your way to come on a Chicago message board to sound off about your former QB is entertaining when you have a team that's a lucky 6-1, I have news for you: YOU'RE LOSERS. The Broncos are overachieving in quite possibly one of the worst divisions that the NFL has ever seen and you should probably shut up until you actually win something.

And John Elway is NOT the greatest QB of all time. It's too bad for you that he's the only thing your city has when it comes to sports.

I can't wait to move to Fl. I won't have to suffer thru this stuff

Passive coach = passive players. Lovie Smith = Dick J. Pitiful. Looked liked high school.

all you bears fans that want to talk all that junk you should of read up on your boy cutler befor you gave up a arm and a leg to get him maybe next time you won't get sold on the sizzle HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Everyone check out the Bears site and Lovie's postgame comments. Again, the guy is clueless. No sense of urgency. The man is in denial about this team. He believed we had a chance to get back in the game (you mean when we're down by 14pts in the 4th quarter w/8 minutes to play) and we missed alot of opportunities. Is he watching the same game we are? Maybe he's watching another alternate football game in his head. His statements are ridiculous! You gotta watch it...again, no urgency, no passion, no emotion...we're 4-4 and we have alot of games left to play. Hey Lovie, did you see who we have left in our schedule? You know, I can bear losing if the games are close and competitive but getting blown out means we are just plain "bad". No leadership from the top down and a GM whose drafting/free agent signing skills are deplorable...anyone see Adams(FA from Tampa) or Gilbert(our no. 1 draft pick this yr) or Iglesias? We are gonna suck for the next few years!!

LOVIE is a disgrace to the Bears..... Monsters of the Midway no more.....

Lovie Smith reminds me of Abe Gibron. The only thing missing is "Melody".

After the Super Bowl defeat we blamed Grossman. Its the defense stupid!! Bears team use to score 17 points and win every game now our defense couldnt stop anyone...sorry maybe Cleveland. Fix the defense and the Bears will win again.

yeh for you poor Bear fan's sorry you got him (Jay) i had to watch today. i can offer some help call Bowlen and have him send (Jay's) sippy cup looks like he forgot it. love the trade thanks (jay)

fireplug - From one 50+ Bears fan to another I totally agree!! its time for a new GM and a new coaching staff !!!!

StabMaster on November 8, 2009 7:01 PM

Wow. The Bears suck.

Anybody remember the NFL Playoff game a few years ago, when the Bears were sure going into the game that Charles Tillman could cover the Panther's Steve Smith.....one on one? Well, I guess nobody pulling in a Chicago Bears coaching staff paycheck today remembers what happened that day. This afternoon, from my couch in the St. Louis area, I TOLD MY WIFE when the Cardinals came out and QB Warner saw Fitzgerald one on one with Tillman...."here comes another pass to Larry......could be another Cardinals TD"...........and sure enough, Warner sees Fitzgerald one on one against a guy who couldn't cover a resident of the the Cook County Morgue....How can I see this coming, while watching the game on TV and the Bears coaching staff can't see it?

So, I guess my question is this? Why, why, why Lovie did you put this unattainable load on Tillman today? Please, let's bring in Gruden, Cowher, Butkus, Rex Ryan.......ANYBODY who will actually show a pulse on the sideline at a Bear's game......I want to see the Bears once again with an "in your face" attitude.........excuse me now, but this 50+ year Bears fan is now going to go down the hallway to the bathroom and hurl...........this was just plain sickening....

Is this one of the worst conditioned teams in the NFL?

Every game a half-dozen guys get injuries, I understand you'll an injury here or there but supposedly key players get hurt every week or are out every week.

i agree with allot of the sentiments, this is one of the most disappointing teams in a long time. SOFT as butter, this team scares no one.

Fortunately Detroit stinks, st louis stinks and The Packers aren't that great, so the Bears will end up with at least 2-3 more wins and end up around 500 and end up either tied or ahead of the Packers and ahead of detroit, so hopefully Denver won't get that high a pick.

Also good is that I don't get to see that many games here in Boston, so I am glad i didn't waste an afternoon of misery watching this debacle.

Someone should kick Lovie Smith in the balls to see if he shows any emotion!.. FIRE IS KEISTER!!

Hey look, the secondary just got torched again.

Hey look, it's Lovie staring cluelessly at the scoreboard, yet again.

Keep running your beloved Cover-none, clown.

blandest22 on November 8, 2009 6:49 PM

Hey hillbilly, we know you are just jealous you no longer have Cutler, evidenced by your posting on a Bears forum.

This loss is not on Cutler. The defense gave up 31 points in the first half on 5 possessions. This game was all about the garbage defense that Lovie keeps throwing out there. Of course, it is pointless to try to be logical with donkey fans.

Bears got mercy'd by the Falcons, mercy'd by the Bengals, now mercy'd by the Cardinals......

NO excuse.....FIRE LOVIE.

Next game, the fans should sit on their hands all game long and not say a word... We can call it "IMITATE LOVIE NIGHT."

AND LOVIE throw away your 1990 football instruction books - your schemes don't work anymore.

Jay Cutler has always been good at padding his stats when the game is already lost. Where are all you Bear fans who predicted Cutler was the final key to the Super Bowl? Making excuses for Jay, the same place Bronco fans had been for years. Let's face it ... Cutler is all show and no go.

Hey, look at the bright side, at least Lovie isn't blowing games late in the fourth quarter like the Tampa, Carolina, and Atlanta games last season. His preps for the games are having them decided in the first quarter now.

And we are one day closer to the end of the run for the worst coaching staff this side of Oakland. It can't get here soon enough.

But I'm a glass half full kind of guy.

Hey broncoview. You team stinks too. They haven't played anybody that's any good until their last game and they got SPANKED. Get used to that happening as lot more this season. Your beloved horses A**es won't be in the superbowl this year. And that's all that counts. That's what the season is all about. Orton? Please.

If I hear Lovie say his famous "3 phases" quote....again, I'm going to throw my TV set out the window!

At the next home game the fans should just sit there. Not one cheer. Not one clap when the Bears enter the field. Make them earn it. The fans deserve better. I do like the Cleveland fans idea of not being in their seats for the opening kick off. My wife nailed it down today when she said, "Those guys are supposed to be professionals. How did they even get to be pros in the first place? They shouldn't be allowed in the league." I had no answer. I just sat there emBEARassed that I am a Bears fan. They Bear'd down today. They Bear'd down and took a massive dump on Soldier Field.

Hey Jay, remember when you did'nt want to be a Bronco, and you wanted to be trade to duhhhh Bears? How do you like me know,Jay jay? I think Bronco fans are gonna be pretty excited about using some of those Bear draft picks to improve further our Defence . Denver in DAAAAAAAAAA HOUSEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

I think we need to call on the CHICAGO PD..... Lovie has his staff are committing theft everytime they collect a pay check.....

And investigate Tommie Harris while they're at it....

Mark Liptak on November 8, 2009 6:34 PM

Troy Aikman's comment should be named the line of the year: "I thought high school football was played on Friday nights?"

Mark Liptak

I agree with the earlier comment. "BENCH CUTLER NOW TO SAVE HIS LIFE." We'll need him at some point down the road. No sense in executing him like a death row prisoner by putting him behind that lousy O line. That's as good as a death sentence.

Cubs.Bears.Bulls.Blackhawks on November 8, 2009 6:32 PM

I'm so upset with this Bears team right now that I might not even go to work tomorrow. We should do the same thing the Cleveland Brown fans did a few weeks ago.

If Tommie had not been thrown out of the game, we may have won. Hahahahahhahahahahahahha. Sorry...

If the Steelers would have scored touchdowns instead of FGs in the first half (like the Bengals and Cardinals did), the Bears would be happy to be 3-5 right now.

They are who I thought they were.

They fixed the QB position, but so what... they aren't a good football team anyway. (And a very overrated defense.)

Poor George Halas, he has been turning in his grave since the third preseason game when "Da Bears" looked like Super Bowl contenders against the Broncos. Who would have thought that would be the highlight of your season. Thank you in advance for the top 10 pick in next year's draft.

Fire Lovie Smith & Jerry DeAngelo!

This team is crappy!!!!!!!!

Oh, and let's thank Rod for teaching the team how to pass rush.

Didn't Jerry DeAngelo say that hiring Rod was his most important move of the offseason? Now, the owners need to make their most important move of the season and fire this entire lot!

The Bears need to fire the O Line, The D Line , head coach, ........Just rebuild now. Cutler is fine. We need to build a new team now. We'd be better off if we traded for Tampa Bays defensive front 4 for ours. BUMS! Buffoons! Clowns!!!!

Interminable Dross on November 8, 2009 6:25 PM

I'm not going to completely excuse Lovie and his staff, but come on people, the players are bad. Bad is bad and there's nothing coaching or play calls is going to change. If you're going to lead the charge to fire anyone it should be Jerry Angelo first and foremost. He and John Paxson are one in the same: They overvalue and overpay players they fall in love with and are mediocre at best when it comes to the draft.

The Bears O-line is horrific and their receivers are at BEST 3's or 4's on any championship-caliber team. I agree that they should bench Cutler just to save his life. Either the D-Line has taken 4 steps back (as if it was coached by Larry Rothschild), or they should all take pay cuts under a diminished skills clause. The cover 2 is fine if you have a strong secondary, which the Bears don't. And with Urlacher out, the lack of depth on defense has been blatantly exposed and opposing offenses are abusing these backups.

At the end of the day, if you thought the Bears were winning anything this year, you were crazy. The writing was on the wall last year and possibly for the last two that this team was going backwards quickly. Jay Cutler wasn't going to make this team 4-wins better by himself. Personally, I thought they might be a 9 or 10-win team, but I'm afraid they might not win 7 or 8 games at this point.

What happened to the smash mouth in your face football team that used to wear the uniforms of the Bears.
No emotion, no drive, no guts, and no desire.
I have always felt a team mirrors their coach.
And the Bears bear that out with their listless playing and the coach's stoic face and actions.
No other Bears team has brought this much shame on the city and it's fans.
Fire everyone from Jerry on down.
FIRE THEM ALL

Makes my stomach hurt.

Fire Lovie Now ! on November 8, 2009 6:18 PM

Once again the Bears got emBearassed.

This season is over, no big deal. The more losses, the better the chances the L. Smith will get fired for being what most of us knew he was, a bottom rung coach who had been pulled out of the fire by many years of an fantastic D and a out of this world Special Teams group.

This clown made terrible coaching decisions the year the Bears made the Superbowl. He was a total no show for coaching in giving P. Manning 8-12 yards a shot in the superbowl and now he has finally been exposed. To repeat the same process and expect different results is insanity.

The curse of George Halas.

The bears live in the past, and must have old methods of coaching and teaching. And a play book that hasn't evolved to the game today.

A defensive coach that can't stop a 3rd down, yet, everyone and his brother knows the holes in a cover-nobody defense.

We're a franchise that lives in the past. Someone buy out that "old and blind" family. It's the only hope, what other anchor is dragging this team down?

:-( need I mention more

It is rebuilding time.

Cut Tommy Harris and Pace immediately and see what their replacements can do. Three emergencies must be addressed:

1. Head Coach
2. Offensive Line
3. Defensive Line

REBUILD while you still have Cutler.

Fire Lovie. Hire BUTKUS!!!!!!! I'm not kidding.

Fire Lovie!!! Fire Lovie!!!

Come on ya sissies... say it out aloud!!!

Denver fans will try to roast Jay Cutler, but, he played extremely well under the circumstances. He has to force the ball into a group of less than experienced WR's, TE, and RB.

And anyone watching the game would realize, he is the least of (our) CHicago's worries right now.

So, Denver fans, waste your time all you like, you know he can look like a crybaby, but, the man plays his heart out. ANd in time, given some coaching, and perhaps in three years will revamp this team.

But, stop whinning about Jay. Even if he fails, what that makes you a big fan? more like jerkbait.

The problem with the bears is Lovie’s complete lack of fire, I mean have they really done anything since ’06? Once the “non-player’s coach” Rivera left, Lovie filled (or unfilled)the leadership vacuum. The offence was always not quite there, so once Rivera left the defense followed. This is the SAME EXACT THING that happened to Da coach once they let Ryan go, and D.J.: they eliminated tension between the coaches and killed all creativity!

November 8, 2009: Official beginning of the end of the Lovie Era.

That talk he had along the sideline was at an emotional level as if he was talking to a group of bird watchers.

His ability to raise the level of play showed too; AZ went on to score two more TD's and a FG before half after his talk.

Lovie, you'll get to stay because the family won't give up 11 million to cut their loss. But frankly, it's an embarrassment to be a Bear fan right now. No team is that unprepared week in week out. Can't wait to hear what you have to say know.

Sayonara count down has begun, one way or the other - just a matter of time before lovie is gone, -- we are not going to the playoffs, period.

Ted In Phoenix on November 8, 2009 5:53 PM

I've been a Bear fan for 50 years. If this was a team that was expected to go nowhere and was building for the future this would be disappointing at best. The Bears were expected by most to be a playoff team. This looks like a team that should start looking to the future and the next draft but in the next draft the Bears don't have a 1st round draft pick. Everyone in the Bears front office and a lot of the players should be looking for new jobs. The defense has been going south since Ron Rivera was let go. This is also the orginization that wouldn't hire Singletary as a coach. GSH is spinning.

Big surprise Tillman got beat like a drum all day long. He couldn't cover last season, and he can't cover this season. The secondary as a whole can't cover. Bowman is just as bad as Tillman if not worse. Lovie and staff, have lost their ability or lacked any, to judge talent, develope talent, be creative and not a hint of responsiblity of accountabilty. It may be time to let him go, with Angelo not far behind. Bring Shanahan in.

Need to get "Fire Lovie" chants at the next home game...national media will pick up on it and take the pressure to a new level!

Good call Lovie bringing in your buddy Marinelli..... There was a reason he went 0 for 16 last year as a HC and now we are seeing it with the play of the D-line.....

I think Lovie wanted Marinelli to stay in the league so that Lovie himself would not hold the Title of WORST coach in the league... (now he is the 2nd worst)

Do me a favor Bears, the next time you decide to not show up for the game, let me know ahead of time so I can actually enjoy the last decently warm day in Chicago for the next 6 months. I know it doesn't matter much to you since you'll be going south for the winter once your pathetic season ends, but to us it does.

Luckily I was smart enough to stop watching at halftime, so I got a good 3 hours in before the sun set and the temps dropped.

The Bears are fortunate to have Jay Cutler signed up for a few years; I trust his agent gained some commitments to have the line and the receiver corp improved over the years.

The team as a whole is uninspired, and plays as though they are going through the motions. I believe this stems from not having a real head coach in any sense of the word. Lovie Smith may be a very nice man, but he is clearly overmatched by his responsibilities. He spends most of the game looking at the scoreboard, as though in a trance. His press conferences are nothing but catch phrases and platitudes. I have the sense he simply doe snot understand how to motivate and run a football team. The players will only play to the level that is demanded of them, and right now, it's a level of mediocrity.

I also went out to do yard work....really embarrassing...and I have been a die hard Bears fan since 1964....I don't think I can watch the rest of the season.

dadoorsron on November 8, 2009 5:37 PM

It's not the scheme's because everyone a few years ago was beyond happy with the cover 2 scheme that the bears run. It's the Players!!! It has always been the players! Why can't anyone see that. The Failure of this coaching staff to let the slipping players go and the drafting better talent is the bigger concern. The Defensive line is horrible and I think we have seen the last of Tommie Harris as a bears player, or atleast I hope we have. The Secondary has always been a weak spot on this team now it has a very large spotlight on it because teams aren't scared of the bears pass rush!

The Offense is horrid and Troy Aikman made a great observation. Now that the Bears have a Franchise QB the other weaknesses become more obvious. The Bears patch work O-line is by far the worst the bears teams have had in the last 10-12 years. The Running back may have just produced because he was getting the ball 35 times a game. WR. have made progress although you can still see the inexperience on how to play the position. The coaching staff is the one to blame for the lack of progress the WR. have shown.

The 2009 Bears team has proven that bad coaching and talent development can make a good team, horrible in just a few years. Start the coaching hunt now and hopefully we get a Head coach that will make the players work and get better instead of allowing them to dictate how they want to practice, and you can see where that has gotten this team. The Bad thing is 2010 will be worse then 2009, and depending on the NEW HEAD coach it maybe the 1970's and early 90's all over again.

I horribly disappointed.... Sad part/reality is Lovies got one more season and Jerrys got two more at least...we're screwed! It's not JCs fault, but we're playing like last years Pathetic Denver Team! Cowher is my #1 choice! I think we can put Bartman/Turner in exhile as partners after the season... Don't ever come back! Lovie will be given a pass by the front-office for $$$ issues... Jarron Gilbert won't get developmental time even though he needs PT.... Sad time for US the Fans:-( when I say "Bear Down" I don't mean get injured or just lay down and not play... Pathetic!

Lovie has got to go..... first drive of the game for the Cardinals; 3 and real long deep in Cardinal territory - Lovie has no pass rush and goes Cover 2 (Dinosaur's played football with the same scheme)....easy completion up the middle and 1st down; and the we all know what happened after that.

Then dumb dumb harris gets kicked out of the game because Lovie is too scared and timid to keep the players accountable..

Lovie is aweful...fire him already.... get a coach with some FIRE and ENERGY and KNOWLEDGE of football in the 21st century....

The Bears have never looked worse.......

The Bears are not who we thought they were.

They are worse.

Who ever thought the Bears were anyting? They can't ever win and almost never do! Bears fans need to wake up, the bears are losers and always will be!!!!!!!!

Wrigley Field Bear on November 8, 2009 5:09 PM

Lovie Smith has lost this team. The telling play was Arizona's return of the blocked field goal, where the Bears made virtually no effort to tackle the guy, except for Robbie Gould who made the tackle. This pathetic mess was foretold by the Atlanta game, where the Bears were unprepared after a bye week. Lovie Smith has shown that he doesn't have what it takes to be an NFL coach, Jerry Angelo has shown that he doesn't have what it takes to be an NFL general manager, and the McCaskeys have shown that they're too cheap and incompetent to be successful NFL owners. The Bears need major changes from ownership all the way down.

Michael Dee on November 8, 2009 5:07 PM

Please fire the whole coaching staff!! Also fire Jerry Angelo!! Bring back a hard nose defense not this BS Tampa 2 or cover 2 it doesn't work period.

Jay Cutler played an outstanding game today with a total of 369 yards, and 3 touchdowns, when was the time we can say that about any other of our quaterback who's donned a Bears uniform over the past 10 or so years? not too many I guess, I can't even find a quarterback on record who's those stats. Cutler always plays his heart out, as so is the offense, now the defense? theres where this team's problems are. They need a major overhaul come 2010. I wished that the Bears didn't give up that 2nd round draft pick for Gaines Adams, this is going to cost this team dearly. I hope that I'm wrong about this but we could've picked up a quality defensive back, defensive tackle, linebacker, cornerback, or even a power runningback which this team does not have. Don't expect Matt Forte to do it all for one back can only do so much. After watching this game, I'm already looking foward to the 2010 NFL Draft, and maybe the free agency too, if there is money to burn on this organization.

Mike Calendar on November 8, 2009 5:06 PM

I am not some fair-weather fan who bails when things are tough. My stance remains the same: Rex Grossman is our quarterback.

As Bears fans are discovering and Bronco fans know all too well, 350 yards and 3 touchdowns is not the stat that matters most. Regardless of great stats, the measure of success is wins v. losses. The Bears have a lot of problems, including discipline apparently. Denver looks to be in a pretty good postion on the draft board next year from the Bears #1 pick too. Ouch.

Um did you say the word "yaw"? Last time I checked everyone here was speaking English. You must have missed the bus, but the handicap line was over there bkf3deep.

WOW I BOUGHT THE NFL TICKET BECAUSE I LIVE IN DALLAS AND LOVE THE BEARS. BUT THEY LOOK SOFT WITH THE NEWLY ACQUIRED ADAMS...2ND ROUND PICK? THE FUTURE LOOKS BLEAK AND WE SHOULD END THE SEASON NOW AND START THE REBUILDING..FIRE LOVIE SMITH...WE NEED SOMEONE WITH FIRE!...FIND OUT IF PARCELLS WANTS PART OWNERSHIP HERE OR JUST ASK DITKA TO FINISH THE SEASON AND WE WILL FIND THE RIGHT COACH IN OFFSEASON.

A defense's best friend is an offense that can stay on the field. A Cutler led offense is going to be your worst enemy if you are on the same team and play defense. He ruined our D, and now that he is gone look at Denver's D now. Your D used to carry your team, but now that you have Cutler look at you now. So so so ...sorry...ROFL

You're obviously not knowledable about football. No QB can do anything while running for his life. We could judge Cutler a lot better if the offensive line did not act as if Cutler was its worst enemy and let him get buried. Then we have a receiver Bennett that runs away form a scambling quarterback when the protection breaks down. You told us nothing. First you have to know something.

This all comes down to coaching. No discipline, no heart, and no pride. Bench Cutler- to save his life!

Stratmaster on November 8, 2009 4:49 PM

Sounds like a non-word.

Lovie would say Jerry is our GM, Jay is are Quarterback. Can that dead A$$ coach and GM.

Ha ha ha....once again Jay can't come from behind when down by 14 points or more.

You get what you pay for Chicago, and you get what you ask for Jay. How does mediocrisy sound?

I am one of those waiting the whole week for this game and got switched by FOX('cause I live in San Francisco) midway in the 3rd quarter to the battle of the bays game. I was disgusted and changed to the NFL Redzone to hope for still some miracle in the Bears game. While watching the other NFL games on Redzone I noticed that all defenses from other teams tackle head on at the waist level and down while the Bears always tackle from the side and at the shoulder trying to rip the ball. No wonder we give up such big runs and so many yards after catch!

michigan bears fan on November 8, 2009 4:43 PM

Looks like the Bears are coming down to Detroit's level. Good job boys, misery loves company

Stratmaster on November 8, 2009 4:41 PM

It is interesting that in a game where the offense actually looked good, the first half, and thus the game, turned on a bad offensive play call. I thought a reverse was supposed to be in response to over-pursuit of your running game. The Bears hadn't even run the ball. Seemed completely out of place to me. At that point it was 14-7 and up to that point the Bears were moving the ball at will. Don't get me wrong, the defense lost the game, but that was when the momentum really turned.

when yaw lost to cincinnati and barely got by the browns yaw should have known. the bears were never good.

is tommie on kool aid check him

I want to see another championship in my lifetime. 25 years ago, it was really great, so one of my goals as a Bears fan is to see them do it again. As a fan, that's why I invest so much time and money in the team.

Lovie is not a winner. It will not happen with him in the lead. This year is the same as the previous 2 years. Lose, then optimistic talk and talk and talk, but really say nothing. In conjunction with continuously lazy practices led by Lovie. Then, lose again.

There are 4 good coaches who will be available in the off season who have all won Super Bowls. They know how to do it.

If we miss out on one of these 4 coaches this off season, will we get that opportunity again? And, what about this nightmare. Give Lovie one more bad season after this, get rid of him and turn to our assistant head coach Marinelli, who is even worse.

Our only hope to win again sometime in the next 5 years is, as fans, to make life so miserable for Lovie that he decides to resign and go coach in college, go fishing, or something. It's nothing personal, it's just that we need to win and the cheap Bears management will never fire him based on the amount of money this still owe him. He's gotta go, this year. And, take his lame GM and coaching staff with him.

(by the way, I live in San Diego. This was the national game. Did you know that the network cut away to another game early 3rd quarter, because this one was so lame? they used the term non-competitive)

Rockstar81 on November 8, 2009 4:27 PM

if we had orton or rex whine whine whine come on its NOT CUTLER!!! do you guys hear that its love smith and his gang of losers and angelo im so sick of oh if we had orton or rex quit whineing and FIRE THE ENTIRE COACHING STAFF AND ANGELO ONCE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!! ill be watching hockey til we get new coaching staff

The first offensive series by the Bears was great and resulted in a game tying touchdown. It was great because they finally unleashed Cutler. Then, nothing. Back to dink and doink. Who calls a five yard out on third and seven? To say that the Bears defense was bad might actually be a compliment. It could have been worse if the Cardinals had both of their star receivers playing. Except for the first offensive series thee Bears weren't ready to play. This is the the third bad, embarrassing, loss in the last month. When a team isn't ready to play that neglet falls on the coaches - all of them.

Oak Park Lefty on November 8, 2009 4:23 PM

Pukey performance by the defense. Has Tommie Boy given up and was his ejection today a way to showcase his new professional career in martial arts - or whateverthehell boxing has morphed into on TV?

TOM COTNER on November 8, 2009 4:20 PM

AS I STATED EARLIER:

FIRE LOVIE SMITH BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE !!!

THEN FIRE JERRY ANGELO FOR FAILURE TO SEE THE FOREST OF TREES IN FRONT OF THE LONE REDWOOD !!!

THIS "IS NOT" CHICAGO BEAR FOOTBALL. IT IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED ANY LONGER.

WE HAVE ONE OF THE BEST QB'S IN THE GAME TODAY, DESPITE WHAT SOME OTHERS ARE THINKING. WHAT WE "DON'T" HAVE IS A COACH WHO IS CONDUSIVE TO HIS STYLE OF PLAY WHERE HE HAS BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN THE PAST.

WHOEVER HIRED LOVIE SMITH SHOULD BE EXAMINED BY A PSYCOLOGIST, PLAIN AND SIMPLE.

IF GEORGE HALAS WERE HERE SEEING THIS FOUNTAIN OF POISONED WATER, EVERY WORD OF HIS TIRADEABLE COMMENTS WOULD HAVE TO BE BLEEPED BY THE TRIBUNE.

END OF STORY !!!

annette penrod on November 8, 2009 4:17 PM

Lovie needs to stop calling defense.we don't have any defense!!

northsidwe mike is on drugs. the bears team reflects its head coach lifeless, repetitive and probably getting hios the season starts now we are all even. i am glad they switched to another game where i live could not handle watching this debacle

Laughing Denny Green on November 8, 2009 4:12 PM

"They're who we thought they were. They're who we thought they were."

Same old Jay, sulking on the sideline. Throwing up tons of junk yardage well after the defense has let up cause the Bears are being routed. The Bears are lousy and Jay's where he belongs.

Not even Montana, Marino, Elway, Brady could've won this game. It was just plain awful and terrible execution. The defense totally gave this one up.

Bear Fan in NC on November 8, 2009 4:11 PM

I thought, that the high school teams played on Fridays. Embarrassing

Once again the defense decides to mail it in...you would think after the bengals game the defense would never let something like that happen again this season. 5 total first half drives equals 4 tds and 1 fg by the cardinals...pathetic is the only word that's needed to describe that performance by the defense. Cutler played really well, if you all are looking for someone to blame then I can name you 11 players on defense and a head coach that you can blame. I'm sick of seeing Lovie Smith acting like everything is okay on the sideline. for once I'd like to see him blow up at his defense and offensive line, maybe that might show them that it's not okay to play like total crap.

Northside Mike on November 8, 2009 4:06 PM

Hey jk80906 Jay played well. I like his movement in the pocket and his leadership on the field. He's not the most articulate player at the podium, but we did score 21. Give him a break. By this time next year he will be leading us to the top of the league. Give him time to adjust. Go Cubs.

And PLEASE - hire The Shanahump! That takes $7M off our owner's payroll.

And Shanny and The JayBaby belong together...Then, you guys can be a .500 team for the next 5 years. And Shanny will hire lots of punks, thugs and borderline criminal types to make you all proud of the team.

If you think we're laughing in Denver now...

Northside Mike on November 8, 2009 4:04 PM

Jay looked good, but Lovie's got to get the D back playing his aggressive Tampa Two. Don't give up on Lovie yet. He got us to a Super Bowl. Go Cubs.

Colorado Dreaming on November 8, 2009 3:58 PM

Why feel sorry for Cutler? He asked for this, wanted this! I actually think he prefers to be on a crappy team, that way when the Bears lose, people are not point fingers at him. It helps to cover all his bad choices and interceptions on the field. Without a doubt he is a better athlete than Orton, but Orton is a much better leader and willing to accept responsibility when he has a bad game. Cutler is sulking his way to the bank, wonder if he will EVER make it to the pro bowl again in Chicago!!

Just another typical Bear game. Unfortunately, there dosen't seem to be any hope for the future. WE've got a good quarterback, but not much of anything else. The coaching staff is pathetic, time for a complete housecleaning, starting with team management and coaches.
Lou

Ah, the Chicago Jaybabies lost yet another game - but hey, The JayBaby put up big numbers, didn't he??

We are laughing in Denver!

Sonofliberty, you're 100% right, Mike Shanahan (not Gruden) would be right coach to try and turn this sinking ship around. The problem is that we're just stupid fans and the only people who know what they're doing are the front office people and the coaches. RIGHT!!

Fire Lovie Smith and Ron Turner right now. The Bears looked lifeless out there, no sence of urgency, just going through the motions. The defense couldn't stop Arizona State, let alone Arizona Cardinals.

Todd Olson on November 8, 2009 3:50 PM

Bye bye, Lovie and Turner.

You got 10 minutes of defense and less from your very offensive line. The Bears get off the bus running the ball, all the way to the locker room and then back to the bus.

I feel sorry for Cutler. Get Cowher or Shanahan on the phone.

It would have been funny to see all Bears defensive players punch a Cardinal. The Bears' players would have been ejected as Tommie Harris was and the score would probably have been the same.

You cannot blame Cutler for this. Even with an offensive offensive line. Cutler squeaked out 3 TDs.

Joel Grothe on November 8, 2009 3:47 PM

Lovie, how DARE you put this on the players. You and your BFF were outcoached. The players stunk but the play calling stunk more. What kind of leadership is that?! Own up. It hasn't been this bad as long as I've been a fan.

Yup, all you football geniuses sure hit the nail on the head: It's all Rex Cutler's fault. If only Kyle Orton were still here! Then he could have used his mighty powers of will to compel the defense to actually, maybe, stop the Cardinals once or twice in the first half. Cutler is not the reason the Bears are 4-4, just as Orton is not the reason the Broncos are 6-1.

I have been watching the Bears fervently since the late 70's, but this is the first time I turned off the TV and walked away to work in the yard. Pathetic.

D gives up 41 and you guys want to poop on Jay? Tommie Harris is the only true under tackle we have even if he is a shell of his former self. Lots of blame to go around but he gets special mention.

With this loss the Bears at least have the 49ers to look foward to but then again maybe not, and if they get past this game on Thursday, they'll have to go up against Donnavan MacNabb, and the Eagles which again is another pass crazy team, then it's off to play the Vikings, and Packers. After today's game, I don't really think this team can beat any of the remaining teams on this current schedule, not even the Rams would be an easy task for this team. Like I said on my last post, this team needs an overhaul on the defense big time. Also I want to add is the Jay Cutler once again played his heart out with 369 passing yards with 3 touchdown in a losing effort, what a shame that now we finally have a great quaterback on this team only to not have a defense who can help him keep the opposing teams from killing us with open touchdown passes. This really stinks

There are too many holes on this team to count, but not QB.
Cutler can play, but with no running game he has to do it all, and at times he does force it. Just give the guy some quality players and he won't feel it's all on him, but with bad coaching, average at best players, and a GM who's always looking for the "diamond in the ruff", instead of drafting the best player available for the teams needs, the future looks bleak. 8-8 if we're lucky.

jeff mangano on November 8, 2009 3:42 PM

Charles Tillman SUCKS!

What an embarrassment!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's time to face the fact that everyone from the top down doesn't want to win or give Chicago and their fans a champion team.
What the McCasky family has done to this team is criminal to say the least.
I agree with Tom, Smith will have all sorts of double talk and no answers.
Get rid of them all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We deserve so much better

Blitzkrieg on November 8, 2009 3:39 PM

This should put the final nail into the stupid Cover Two defense. Get rid of this pathetic coaching staff and make Ron Rivera hire #1 to rebuild this mess. Fox could not pull the plug quick enough as they switched to the Battle of the Bays to avoid FCC fines for showing obscene graphic violence to its national audience. The Steelers must have been drugged when they came to Chicago. See ya Lovie et al...

emBEARessed on November 8, 2009 3:38 PM

Just another sunday of poor play and no adjustments. This team has given up, you can see it in their play and in their actions. It seems the only ones upset about losing are bears fans and Cutler. Cutler atleast shows some emotions. Everyone else is on the sidelines laughing and joking. wtf! Same crappy offensive plays and same defensive schemes that get spanked by EVERYONE in the league. Wonder if i can get my money back on my sundaly ticket, can't bear to watch this anymore!!!!!!!

Jay must be feeling like he never left Denver. This is the kind of team he played for last year.

SonofLiberty on November 8, 2009 3:32 PM

Well, Jerry Angelo got Jay Cutler. There's hope for the future, but we must act now. Fire Angelo, Lovie Smith and the entire coaching staff. Start a player housecleaning as soon as a new administration is in. Mike Shanahan is available, so is "Chuckie" Gruden. Shanahan is a better choice because in Denver he wasn't drafting at the top and was creative. Ted! Ted Phillips, wake up. You've got to move on this. Don't wait.

Bears Fan In NJ on November 8, 2009 3:31 PM

Bears should draft the soccer chick from New Mexico, atleast she would have more fight than the Bears Defense.

bears_fan_4_decades on November 8, 2009 3:30 PM

This is RIDICULOUS!
We absolutely suck blue whale

$50 million for Cutler and we lose anyway, just like denver.
What good is this qb if the rest of the team bites??
Denver can HAVE him - stats are meaninless when yOU LOSE!!

And the damn donkees got all our draft picks so we can't even begin to fix it - (we really got punked in THAT deal)

NOBODY loses by 20 to the Cardinals at HOME!!
No wildcard - no playoffs
WE STINK!!!

spirothegreek on November 8, 2009 3:28 PM

and cutler wanted out of denver for this?

imagine denver with cutler...hmmmm.

spirothegreek on November 8, 2009 3:27 PM

and cutler wanted out of denver for this?

imagine denver with cutler...hmmmm.

Oh no! Last week's season high point for Bears fans, albeit a vicarious one, when their nemesis Denver got clobbered by Baltimore, is followed by another blow-out loss, and in Chicago no less. So much for the Bears' pre-season Super Bowl dreams ha ha ha!!

Joel Grothe on November 8, 2009 3:24 PM

I am so tired of the obnoxious, arrogant approach to coaching defense that is Bob Babich, OR, in this case, Lovie Smith holding Bob Babich's hand (I'm pretty sure they're together). When you are getting burned you adjust. But no. Continual single coverage on Larry, ineffective linebacker blitzes leaving players open downfield. Just keep running your ineffective schemes. This is worse that Jauron/ Wannstedt. And management needs to own up and spend some money on players. We have a roster stocked of 'special teams players who are just terrible. This makes me sick.

Chuck D of Valpo on November 8, 2009 3:23 PM

When I say "Bring back the Honey Bears", I mean the girls that shake their pompoms on the sideline. We don't need them on the playing field. Thanks for your contribution, Tommie Harris.

300+ yards from our QB and we loose by 20????

It starts with the ownership and works it's way down through the entire organization. Into every nook and cranny. Garbage is as garbage does. Prediction -- it will be the fault of the negativity shown by the fans and the media. Not only can't they play football, they are big sissies.

JacK Handy on November 8, 2009 3:18 PM

Boo

Stratmaster on November 8, 2009 3:16 PM

Well, the only thing more embarrassing than the Bears performance would be that the Packers are about to lose to an 0-7 team... hopefully.
