GLENDALE, Ariz.-- After five days off the Blackhawks were plenty rested, but they were also clearly rusty as they fell to the Phoenix Coyotes 3-1 on Thursday night.
Phoenix got goals by Martin Hanzal, Peter Mueller and Scottie Upshall while the Hawks only managed a second-period, short-handed score by Kris Versteeg as they dropped to 8-5-1 on the season.
The Coyotes' Ilya Bryzgalov was sharp as he picked up the victory in goal while Hawks netminder Cristobal Huet didn't fare as well and suffered the loss.
The Hawks headed to Denver after the game where they will take on the Avalanche on Friday night.
