If you've ever dreamt of handling the budget of a major league team and have the necessary skills, Tom Ricketts wants you.
The new Cubs' chairman is seeking a CFO for the organization, and has listed the opening under another opening for community affairs internship at the bottom of the Cubs web site.
The Vice-President of Finance will work directly under team president Crane Kenney, and would join the team's other vice-presidents: general manager Jim Hendry, Mark McGuire (Business Operations), Oneri Fleita (Player Development), and senior vice-president Mike Lufrano (Legal/Community Affairs).
It's a newly created job that combines the responsibilities of several employees already working in the Cubs front office, and figures to pay in the same range of an arbitration-eligible infielder. Currently, the Cubs have two Co-Directors of Finance: Jodi Reischl and Terri Fleischhacker.
Among the responsibilities are working with Kenney on the "strategic vision" of the club," which presumably does not include the sprinkling of holy water in the dugout before playoff games.
The CFO will also coordinate tax matters, assist in contract negotiations, oversee data processing and "work directly with club ownership regarding ownership financial issues." Theoretically, if a Cubs player needed to be dumped but was still owed $21 million, the new CFO would be involved in the discussion of how much money the team could eat.
Those interesting in the job are asked to send a letter and resume to cubsjobs@cubs.com.

I feel for the Cubs HR department once this makes its way around the web. Every idiot fan who ever wanted to work for the Cubs will apply whether they are qualified or not. There is an internal candidate but I am sure that Tom has someone in mind already and is just following the proper channels.
