Cutler's career-high 5 picks means lights out for Bears

By Vaughn McClure

SAN FRANCISCO -- Unfortunately for the Bears, they still have two more night games left on their schedule.

Jay Cutler's night vision wasn't functioning properly again Thursday. The Bears quarterback threw a career-high five interceptions, including one to safety Michael Lewis in the end zone as time expired, sealing a 10-6 loss to the 49ers.

The Bears are now 0-3 in night games this season, all on the road. They will host the Eagles in a 7:20 p.m. game Nov. 22 and the Vikings in a 7:30 p.m. start Dec. 28.

More importantly, the Bears (4-5) continue to fade out of the playoff picture. They've lost four of their last five games and still have the Vikings (7-1) twice, the Eagles (5-3), the Packers (4-4)  and the Ravens (4-4) left on the schedule.

The defense actually gave the Bears a chance to win this time, holding the 49ers to one Frank Gore touchdown and a field goal. But the offense couldn't manage to put up points against a San Francisco team that allowed 21.8 points per game coming in.

Cutler wasn't to blame for all the interceptions, as receiver Devin Hester slipped on one of them. Regardless, he now has 11 interceptions in night games this season at Green Bay, Atlanta and San Francisco. And he has a league-worst five interceptions in the red zone after two more Thursday.

Personally I find that losing weight is easier with exercise than with being on a diet. I often put weight back on when I am on a diet because the diet ends and I go back to eating normal foods.

Jay Cutler is a small token of appreciation for this knucklehead you put in the White House.

Folks, it's not Jay's fault. He unfortunately came to a meat grinder of a team that destroys all good players. The Bears suck and always will. Ask Ced Benson and Orton!!!! Yeah Baby, I love it!

Jay Cuntler on November 13, 2009 8:00 PM

Haha!

Acquired in an offseason trade from Denver, Cutler leads the league in interceptions (17) after throwing five in Thursday's 10-6 loss in San Francisco. His 76.0 quarterback rating is among the lowest in the league.

God the 2010 pick will be sweet!

james macdonald on November 13, 2009 12:56 PM

Wow bears need help everywhere..but gave all there picks to Denver..bad idea..here is what we saw of Jay in denver..threw for 4500 yards with the least TD in history..sat on sideline like a two yr old..we are sure Orton is not the anwser but I would take him over jay in any battle my team gets into..& I was raised in Chicago area life time Bears fan living in Colorado..when jay is gone I can cheer the Bears again..But hey He is the franchise QB every teams dreams of unless they live in denver....

Okay, one last thing, then I'll go.

Did you hear that LeBron is going to change his number next year, out of respect for a Chicago franchise player? Yep -- he said he'll no longer use the No. 23 and that he'll wear No. 6 next year. It's true!

Yet another Cutler fan in the midwest!

And to think my Hawks lost to this team?

Oy Vey

I probably speak for most Broncos fans when I say that Cutler wasn't all that likeable as a person when he was a Bronco, and if you happened across him in a pub here, you'd like him even less. But he had a cannon for an arm, and Denver was championship-starved and wanted to believe he was the missing ingredient. Denver had invested a lot in him. He had to be the answer, right?? Sound familiar? I mean, he even told us his arm was stronger than Elway's. That's like Matt Forte telling Chicago fans that Walter Payton wasn't "all that."

Once 'McJayGate' occurred in February, no one around here understood why McDaniels would want to do this. The more Cutler talked about it and reacted poorly, the more Denver fans started turning against him. Same with McDaniels, too. But when Cutler said he wanted to be traded, most Denver fans finally turned against him. What fan-base wouldn't? Geez, he's been in Chicago a half-season and it seems like most Bears fans already are working up a hangman's noose.

At least Denver fans waited for a historic collapse at the end of '08 (if the leader of the team stepped up just ONCE during that three-game stretch, Denver's in the playoffs ...), following two similar years of a late-season collapse, and his public statements that he wanted out of Denver, before they turned on him ...

At least wait until the Eagles pressure him into another bad outing, or maybe wait until he plays his first game in the Metrodome, before you start looking hard at Caleb Haney.

There aren't many fans in Denver that believe Orton will take the Broncos to a Super Bowl victory this year. But Denver got the better of the deal, and there was no choice to trade Cutler once he felt 'dissed.'

Cutler needs help, like any QB. Which takes me back to my point -- Chicago overpaid.

For the past two seasons in Denver, this Broncos fan always wondered just how great Cutler would be if he had a good defense. Last night, the Bears defense virtually shut down a team on the road. I know this version of the Bears 'd' doesn't take us all back to the '85 season, but it's a ton better than what Cutler had in Denver in '07 and '08. If Cutler throws JUST 4 interceptions last night, the Bears probably win. 'Nuff said.

Go FurselfDenver on November 13, 2009 11:09 AM

Another Bears season gone.

Yes Jay's been bad, but the O-line has been the worst in years. Defense too. But what takes the cake is the coaching. Lack of passion from Lovie, lack of brains by Turner, Lack of defensive play calling from Lovie, lack of line coaching by the 0-16, gotta have him, 08 Lions coach.

Denver, keep Orton. you will see at the end of the day, a game manager won't take you far. There is a pretty good offensive around him now though. Funny how Jay wasn't that bad when he was there, but because he got pissed when he found out he was gonna get backstabbed, now he's a baby?

Hey Denver, FU!

If you are a smart football fan then you know that JC is not the biggest problem, sure we know he's a gunslinger but he's never played this bad before he came to Chicago.

as bill parcell's always points out > the line wins the game.

bears keep changing linemean from the natural position > chris williams should be a LT not a RT.

bears keep tinkering and its biting them in the but.

the bears offensive players also look over weight and out of shape > forte and cutler.

cutler was always big, but he his build looks sloppier than what it was in denver last year.

bears didn't get enough Free Agents to build around Cutler.

1 player does not equal playoffs.

Chris in Boulder CO on November 13, 2009 11:03 AM

McDaniels must be peeing his pants with laughter. He gets 2 1st and a 3rd pick for this guy?

Chris in Boulder CO on November 13, 2009 10:58 AM

How can you say that Cutler didn't lose the game? Olsen was an easy target moving arms length away from defenders on the last play in the endzone. The rush did not have thier hands anywhere near whiney boy. Plenty of time to do it and he blew it! I love the after game interview with Cutler where he states the collective "WE have to stop turning it over."

Hey Bears fans - was last night a preview of your new "mid-west" offense?

Bob -- you can say that about any NFL quarterback. If Kyle Orton gets protection, the Broncos are 6-0. When he's on his back in about two seconds, the Broncos are 0-2.

If Cutler had all day long to pass, every game, with that defense, he'd be 8-0. Same with Orton, same with Jon Kitna. That's the problem with over-paying for one person. Ask the Redskins how much value they're getting for Haynesworth right now.

Cutler was ecstatic to receive such instant acclaim as a Bears QB. When he was having his hair slicked back and somebody else was dressing him for those nice glossy pictures in that high-style magazine piece, he was loving it. But you put a little pressure on him, if somebody else makes a mistake, and he's not that guy in the designer suit anymore. In fact, he's a very bad influence on the team at that point. The Bears losses are not because of Cutler. And neither are the four victories. It's a team game.

The trade would have been great had the Bears been getting Peyton Manning in exchange for two first-rounders and a third. Had McDaniels come on board in Denver with Peyton Manning on the team, there would never have been a discussion about a trade, obviously. No trade would have been made. There's a reason why he was traded for two first-rounders and a third. Like Tony Dungy's said -- you'd never trade a true 'franchise' quarterback for 10 first-rounders.

It's a shame that Cutler doesn't get it -- it's looking more and more like he never will understand what his role is as a leader of a team.

Time For Change on November 13, 2009 10:48 AM

Ron Turner has to go, he absolutely sucks and if Lovie wont get rid of him because their buddy buddys then fire them both! If your QB is rattled or forcing passes, then change the damn offense strategy and quit trying to run up the middle. The Bears offense is soo predictable and you wonder why Culter is unloading into triple coverage.

I am sorry, but you can not blame Cutler for that loss or any loss this season. You can put the blame on the OFFENSIVE LINE. I have never seen a worse line EVER! They can't block a 3 or 4 man rush, let alone a blitz. Cutler is horizontal more vertical the entire game. Every single play the defense has their hands on him before he even finishes his drop. Plus his receivers do a terrible job trying to get open. Put the blame where it belongs, Lovie Smith, Turner, The GM and the poor excuse for a defense

Bruce Faubel on November 13, 2009 10:30 AM

When Payton Manning comes off the field you see him studying pictures and talking to the coaches and players trying to figure what the other team is doing. What did you see Cutler doing on the side line during the SF game? Nothing! Exactly what was happening on the field. Some of the blame for that goes to "Lovie" he could have some one trying to help Jay figure out what might work. The Bears entire organization is 2nd rate and will not get better any time soon.

Yes... 49ers

The players need to revolt against the coaches. The coaches plays are not working.

Players -- do you want to keep looking like fools? I know you make a lot of money, whether you won or lose. But don't you HATE to lose? Where is your competitive spirit?

Captains -- show some leadership. When you step up to the line, if your guts tell you that the play called won't work, change it.

Do this successfully a few times and it won't matter what the coaches say -- the fans will love you!

Postelway7. You are in denial. Jay Cutler was an "incredible" QB in Denver? You must have been mesmerized by the same 8 ESPN highlights the Bears watched before deciding to make the trade. I have seen every game he played as a Bronco and a Bear. He is now exposed for what he really is without an offensive line and no receivers. A big arm, big mouth and big head that will march up and down the field with no results. He throws hard, but behind, in front or over the heads of his receivers. You can say what you want about Orton, but he has led this team to 6-2, with wins over Dallas (1st place), New England (1st place), Cincinnati (1st place) and losses to the Super Bowl champions and Baltimore in Baltimore. I want Kyle Orton in my foxhole.

Let's look at where some former Bears players are now. Brandon McGowan is now playing like a defensive MVP for the Pats, Cedric Benson is running like a pro bowler, and Kyle Orton is 6-2. You think, just maybe, the Bears have a coaching problem?

I'll be honest - I do get a kick out of watching Cutler toss interceptions in another team's uniform. But he's a good talent and in the end, he'll be better than average as a Bears QB. He's not, however, the savior. And as we in Denver have found out, no one player can carry a team. Until the Bears put a team around him (although the defense looks pretty darn good -- better than anything he played with in Denver), he's going to look like Favre, when Favre was asked to win games by himself. In that situation, Favre occasionally would. But more often than not, when Favre didn't have a decent defense and good protection, he'd force the ball into places it shouldn't go. That's how Cutler's career is going to go -- he'll look amazing on some deep throws, and definitely an All-Pro when the team is firing on all cylinders. But if you leave it up to Cutler, and Cutler alone, the Bears will never get to the playoffs.

As for the trade, the Broncos won't win a Super Bowl with Orton at QB. And with McDaniels as the coach, the Broncos would never win the title with Cutler behind center. McDaniels figured that out early, and although he mishandled the situation, that was a relationship that never was going to happen. Kyle Orton's a good guy, accepts blame, and is liked by his teammates. He won't lead the Broncos to the Super Bowl this year, but he's a lot better than most of us here in Denver believed he was. He's a stand-up guy who doesn't have the talent of Cutler. Orton is what he is, and maybe Cutler is what he is, too, and that's a strong-armed QB that probably will be remembered for how he over-utilized what he thought he had.

With every Cutler pick, and Bears loss, the trade will continue to favor Denver, which has Chicago's first pick next April. For this Denver fan, it was very disappointing not to see Cutler in a McDaniels' offense. We all imagined a record-breaking offense. But that was never going to happen -- we all can see that now.

Cutler's not the problem in Chicago. And Cutler's not the answer, either.

Which sounds better, Jay Grossman or Rex Cutler? I'm going with Jay Grossman.

Get used to hearing this:

Jay is our quarterback...

Looking for Answers in Chicago on November 13, 2009 9:47 AM

Can someone please explain this blind love and obsession Chicago fans have with Cutler?? How did he earn this much loyalty and benefit of the doubt from them? What has he ever done to deservive it? It doesn't make sense because:

1)He had a career losing record before coming to Chicago
2)He's an INT machine (54 INTs in only 46 career games)
3)He alienated teamates in Denver
4)He's known as a whiner
5)He's never took his team to the play-offs
6)His career win/loss record is 21-25

So what if he made the pro bowl 1 year...so what if he's got talent (so did Curtis Enis, David Terrell, Cade McNown and Rashan Salaam). It doesn't matter that he's got a cannon.

I just don't understand the blind love and unlimited excuses that so many Bears fans make up for Cutler....why?

I think the Bears overpaid for Cutler, big arm, no doubt, brains, I don't think so, he relays so much on the strength of his arms, yet, he seems to not study the opposite team, make Rex Grossman type of mistakes, and it cost the Bears 2 first round draft picks...hmmmmm

In any event, our priority next year is two offensive linemen and one defensive lineman, we have to pay the money in free agency, hopefully Cutler will still be alive by then, because he is getting hit hard and heavy every single game, yesterday he almost didn't get up after a big hit...

One more thing, last night the defense played 'well', but be careful,we played against a really bad QB, bad team...their QB is the worst I have ever seen, so lets not overplay estimate what our defense did...

Yes Denver people are jumping in to trash Cutler because he acted like an a$$ here. He was a crybaby any time he or anyone else made a mistake. He cried when he found out Denver was inquiring about another quarterback, which happens all the time in the NFL. He lied about The Broncos organization trying to contact him for weeks. He quit on his teammates. He throws for a lot of meaningless yards and then throws interceptions when it counts....hello redzone. Incredibla amount of redzone errors in Denver. He's playing EXACTLY the same as he did in Denver. People in Denver hate Cutler....now you know why. He'll probably play great at the end of the season after the Bears are out of the playoffs.

Philly isn't that good of a team and we match up well against them. I think that's an easy win next Sunday. So despite this, we're a .500 club at 5-5 with 6 games left. Probably won't win the division the way Minnesota is playing but we could still get the wild card.

told you so on November 13, 2009 9:39 AM

Get used to it Chicago fans. For those of you that didn't watch the Broncos the last two years, this is what Cutler does. He has all of the skills to be stud but he's a head case and will break your heart every time. Even worse, you have no draft picks left to put talent around him - bummer.

Jay Grossman. Rex Culter. I mean Jay Cutler. "it's not his fault?" He is 21-25 in his career. That means he was 17-20 when he got here. He's a .500 to sub .500 QB. He hasn't learned to win. He's thrown 9 Red Zone interceptions in as many games. Met the new Rex. Same as the Old Rex. Maybe he has the skills to get the Bears to the Promise Land, but I think he's the most overhyped player on the planet. Jay may not be the problem. Lovie looks lost. Turner's play calling is predictable and doesn't seem to attack an opponent's weaknesses. (How many times did the Bears try to stretch the field last night? Against a weak secondary?) Angelo keeps making the wrong choices and decisions. Kyle Orton wasn't the problem. Jay may not be the problem, but Jay is not the answer either. And somewhere I bet Rex Grossman can't help but chuckle to himself -- he may not have been the problem either.

ken chicago on November 13, 2009 9:30 AM

I remember months back when the Chicago sports columnists were jumping for joy that the Bears got a steal in getting Cutler! I remember an ESPN NFL "expert" saying that Orton was the better quarterback and Denver won the trade. I remember a couple months ago when Chicago sports columnists were cheering the fact that the Bears now had a fantastic offense with a franchise quarterback and a star running back. I no longer bother to read Chicago sports columnists. It's easier to ask Sister Kenney of the Sisters of Providence. She knows her sports!

Steve in SF on November 13, 2009 9:28 AM

I was at the game last night, and yes, Jay definitely stunk, but that was an entire offensive breakdown. Dump penalties killed much of the time on the final drive (how nice would it have been to have the 15 yards back on the stupid personal foul?) the line can't run block at all, pass protection was decent for much of the game but in other games has stunk, and the receivers other than olsen and forte simply did not get open. Switch quarterbacks last week and it's Warner that gets killed and Cutler that torches the bears, simply because one had tons of pressure on him and the other had none.

Go Hawks!

I NEVER thought I'd say this, but I want Rex Grossman back.

Here's what I see: the league now knows that if they get pressure on the Cutler, they can rattle him and make him throw bad footballs. They also know that if they can continually get the Bears into 3rd and long, Cutler will gamble a little, which is going to result in 2-3 picks per game.

How exactly is that different than Rex Grossman? Oh yeah, Rex didn't whine after every play looking for interference or roughing. And Rex didn't cost us 2 #1s and a #3 to throw his interceptions (which, if I remember right, he never threw 17 in a single season, let alone 9 games).

I'm not satisfied with the QB play, for sure. But after watching Cutler look no better than Grossman or Orton, and seeing Orton going to good use in Denver under a coach who DOES understand how offense is supposed to work, I have to think that a large portion of the problem the last 5 years has not been the QB play (even though Angelo and others wanted to believe it was), so much as it has been the offensive playcalling and scheme.

Congrats Bear fans. We got the proven QB we've been screaming for the last 20+ years. And you know what, with a bad coaching staff, it's like a Lamborghini with an 8-year old (or Lance Briggs) driving it down the Edens Expressway. I'm not saying Cutler is really a great QB, but maybe our problems have to do with the fact that our only strategy to win is hoping our QB can sling the ball 52 times a game and not throw any picks. That alone is an insane assumption, let alone expecting that with a hapless O-line and inexperienced, height-challenged receivers. (BTW - good to see Aromashadu yesterday...I hope they keep dressing him).

Time to switch up the O-line and D-line, and see what we have in Lance Louis, Frank Shaffer, Gaines Adams, and Jarron Gilbert. Time to see if malcontent Larry Johnson wants redemption as bad as Cedric Benson did. Time to put Chris Williams at LT, which is what he's natural at, and maybe have Frank Omiyale play his normal position of tackle, to see if he's got any value left (I don't know where the Bears get this idea that they can convert lineman to play different positions that they've never played before, and not get their QB and RBs beaten up!).

I like Ron Turner's personality, but his offense stinks. I think Marinelli should be the new DC, because he's got more fire than anyone we've had calling the plays since Chico. And most of all, I wish the head coaches last night could have switched sidelines for the remainder of the season. Singletary is a goof, but he's got an intensity that does not exist on this staff except in Rod Marinelli. Plus he wouldn't make excuses for an underpeforming offensive coach like Lovie does, saying that we can still make the playoffs because we only have 5 losses. (Lovie'd say the same thing if they were 1-5...).

Changes are afoot my friends. And if they're not, we should all let the mgmt know how freakin' disappointed we are by not buying any Bears merchandise until they make the playoffs again. That's the only currencies McCaskey's understand anyways - they have no idea about wins and losses. The old man is rolling over in his grave, after putting his blood and sweat into this organization, to see it used as a profit center for lazy McCaskeys rather than a competitive football team.

And that's all I have to say about that.

Too bad there's no Lemon Law for quarterbacks.

Angelo makes horrible picks
Coaches stink
Offensive line stinks
Defense stinks (despite the improved performance last night).
Lovie is soft
Cutler throwing wild
Season over

Dont blame Cutler; the play calling was in excusable. How many times does shutting down Matt Forte register? Why force the run if only avg 2 yrds a carry? Why no deep passes to spread the defense? They zoned in and made the Bears offense very predictable. If I could figure that out; and Im no expert; dont you think all those guys with the headsets on the sidelines could also figure that out as well?

Why is it when an athlete gets a tremendous pay raise even after mediocre performance, he becomes a worse athlete?

Ya know it is so funny that Bronco fans are soooo eager to get on the Bears board here and rub it in about Cutler, but what they fail to realize is that Orton is in Denver with arguably the best 1-2 receiving tandom in the NFL in Marshall and Royal and Orton can't even get the ball down field. Cutler was incredible in Denver with the talent of an offensive line and WR's who actually were WR's and not a cast off nickle defensive back and punt returner. Did you watch the game last night? How many times was the 49ers defensive front line in the Bears backfield at the snap of the ball.

Bronco fans if you are happy with Orton, then so beit, but look at the season, only 5 plays of over 30yards with that receiving corps! Cutler will be fine in Chicago and Chicago fans you will be the last to laugh. Jay is best outside the pocket, too many times last night he stayed in that so called pocket when it was collapsing the second he took a step back. Just get Jay some receiving help and a left tackle and watch the magic of that cannon of an arm. Trust me, with any resemblance of a defence, Jay will take you where you want to go.

And Bronco fans, go back and look at your own team..Say it out loud.... Kyle Orton...yeah sounds silly saying it! You should be ashamed of youselves, like you have any leg to stand on when it comes to talking trash about QB's.

The Bears are the worst coached team in the NFL. Ron Turner is really bad. Lovie Smith is really bad. The only hope this franchise has is if the McKaskey family sells the team and the new owners clean house. Starting with Jerry Angelo. Ive been watching this crap for 45 years and I'm starting to care less and less because they will NEVER change thier M O.

Chicago Fire..........the only sports organisation in this town that cares about the quality of the end product and the fans in the stands.

GO FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FIRE RON TURNER on November 13, 2009 9:03 AM

JOHN SHOOP > RON TURNER?

It's not Cutler's fault that the O line is a joke and let's him get murdered back there, and that Ron Turner couldn't call a game if his life depended on it.

Wide receiver screens to Hester on 3rd and long NEVER works! He called for it twice in a row last night.

"# 1-3-SF 3 (11:13) 22-M.Forte up the middle to SF 2 for 1 yard (92-A.Franklin; 32-M.Lewis).
# 2-2-SF 2 (10:32) 22-M.Forte right guard to SF 1 for 1 yard (51-T.Spikes)."

What ever happened to a fullback dive you DOLT!

If the Bears plan on doing anything while Lovie is here, they need to fire Turner, plain and simple. This guy is terrible.

How appropriate :
Jay "SANTA CLAUS" Cutler giving early X-Mas presents to all and sundry.........

HA when Cutler came here he was gonna kick ass because the Bears have a "better supporting cast" than Denver. Now if anybody says "Hey, Orton is doing ok this year", people respond with "Well, he has a better supporting cast than Cutler". Well, wtf is it? Can't be both. These excuses are killing me. Jamarcus Russell has no offensive line, no WRs, and archaic play calling, so I guess he's great too and the fact that he's a turnover machine isn't his fault either. Cutler has a career losing record (which is hard playing the Chiefs and Raiders 4 times a year), and has never made the playoffs. He was overrated from the start this year. He does have the right initials though because some of you think he walks on water. He's awful this year. (and yes I do think hes' better than Russell but they are both in the exact same situation and if one sucks so does the other).

BoricuaSport on November 13, 2009 8:44 AM

This is what you get by trading for the mama's boy Cutler. What a disgrace. I knew it was just a matter of time, before Cuttie could show his tru-self. No one else to blame but himself. Defense kept Bears in the game, but Cutler is not and I don't think will ever be a clutch time delivery QB.

THE REASON CUTLER WAS TRADED FROM DENVER - Read the article below

PRO FOOTBALL TALK shares the story that back on Tuesday, an NFL source told Anderson that potential teams had worries about Jay joining their rosters. And she mentioned such worries in her FOX 31 blog:

“The source said there are concerns about Cutler’s consumption of alcohol, and ‘that he’s not that sharp.’

“‘That scared the crap out of [coach Josh] McDaniels,’ the source said.”

So Jay’s a drunk & a dimwit? Wow, that’s some powerful stuff.

Disgusted in Florida on November 13, 2009 8:40 AM

I think it is time we give Jay Cutler a color blind test to see if he is Color Blind !!!
I thought Grossman was awful but I was dreadfully wrong.
How do you justify a contract extention before you see a players strenghts or weaknesses. Send Jay Away !!

Cutler's fine. He was passing to win the game til the very end. Bears have no run offense and no O-line. His arm is the only chance they have. Despite DUMB penalties on the last drive he still had them down there with a chance to win. Rex would've thrown the game-ending pick much earlier in the drive. Orton probably couldn't have gotten them downfield either in such a short time.
I'm good with Jay. More hurry up O, it's their only hope, and it's faint.

Enjoy every minute of this, Bears fans. WHy do you think Denver only wanted Orton in exchange for this "franchise guy"? He's terrible.

In the postgame interview, Could you see how hard he was fighting back his instinct to complain about his receivers?

Jay has never been a winner. Not in HS. Not in college. Not in Denver. Recall this is the same Jay Cutler woh pitched a 30 point loss in a "must win" final game of the season against the Chargers.

Enjoy him, Chicago!!!

i bet all those people who bought cutlers jersey are real happy now. what terrible organization.

Jay Cuntler is a Poop Dick...

Plain and simple!

Jay Cutler is a loser who was thrown out of Denver for being a Bitch - And nothing has changed!

Cutler was a drunk? you should see the pictures I have of Orton at Purdue! There wasn't a frat party he would ever turn down.

DieHard BearFan on November 13, 2009 8:30 AM

You know, it's not *all* Cutler's fault. Yes, some of the interceptions were clearly his fault, but one man does not make up a team. Just like he couldn't win the game on his own, he also can't lose the game on his own. Lots of guys not running their routes, not making blocks that would have given the plays time to form properly, etc. It's not right to pin the losses (and subsequent interceptions) on just one man. The whole team needs to step up.

All of Denver would like to thank the greater Chicagoland for taking Jay off our hands. Orton is looking pretty good right now isnt he? Also the two first rounders may be worth alot more that we anticipated since da bears acquired Jay ""crybaby" Cutler.

BTW did you know that Jay has not been on a team with a winning season since High school? Looks like that streak will continue.

Fed Up with the Bears on November 13, 2009 7:54 AM

This has to be the most inept, incompetent group of so called professional football players I have ever seen and I get to view the Chiefs every Sunday. There is absolutely no heart on this team. All you had to do was watch the reactions after plays, by Singletary compared to Smith, and it is obvious. All Smith cares about is watching the jumbotron. I travel 9 hours to come to the games and after the fiasco last night I have decided to tear up the remaining tickets and not waste my money. In fact, I have no intention of going back until two things happen. The old lady kicks the bucket and the team is sold and the coaching staff is fired.

ConcreteMan on November 13, 2009 7:44 AM

Chicago fans are so so quick to bail out on a good player. Cutler is the best quarterback the Bears have had in ages. He is young, a gun and pick prone, but so was Favre. Give him some players and some receivers who can run better routes along the sidelines and he will get it. Jay hang in there, in the summer these clowns root for the Cubs an drink lite beer without shirts on.

Did Lovie really mention "playoffs" in his post game speach?

Playoffs?
Playoffs?

What's that? Ah -- Playoffs? Don't talk about -- playoffs? You kidding me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a game! Another game.

Where's Jim Mora when you need him?
Oh wait I think Ron Turner just called another run up the middle in the red zone. Get a clue Ron! That play has not worked all year!!! What's wrong with running to the OUTSIDE ever???

C. Sebastian Borjal on November 13, 2009 7:29 AM

Why does he keep throwing to Olsen? Is he the only guy that gets open in every play? Hey, we all know they're buddy-buddies off the field but that does not mean they have to suck it up in the field.

Bearsfaninaz on November 13, 2009 7:24 AM

The Bears will never win a super bowl with Jay Culter since he can't play at night. 12 to 1 average for the season - for every 12 completions to his receivers he completes one to the other team. The Bears need a lot of help, but at minimum Ron Turner has to go!!! Orton & Benson go to another team and become better players.....that proves my point. Good coaching can get the best out of a player. Also need shake up on O Line. A good quarterback can handle a collapse of the O Line from time to time, but not on every play.

James Hansen on November 13, 2009 7:21 AM

I think I know why Cutler plays so poorly at night. He played college ball at Vanderbilt, which almost never had a night game because ESPN sensibly always chose Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, or Tennessee to feature in its primetime games. Vanderbilt played almost all of its games during the day, and when they got on TV, it tended to be the Jefferson-Pilot game that started before noon. This explains Cutler's night blindedness as well as anything.

Let me start by saying I'm a die hard Broncos fan living in Indy! I was very bummed when Culter was traded to Chicago because he has loads of talent! I just wish EVERYONE would stop telling him how talented he could be and critize him for his current work. Jay suffers from Swollen-head syndrom! He was told at Vandy that he was their savior and they could have won if only they had x,y and z. He was always behind in games and the underdog so he was expected to just air it out and hope for the best. Then Denver gets him and trys to teach him how to be an NFL QB. Unfortunately, Jay isn't coachable. It's sad really because he could be a great QB pysically, but he will never be a great leader. He is so self absorbed that it's only about J. I'm sure the contract extension will only make this affliction worse as now he has NOTHING to play for or prove. People/writters/fans need to stop making excuses for his poor leadership and decisions! Step up Jay, take responsibility and become a leader. Show some emotion like you care that you have thrown 17 INTs!!! Orton doesn't have 1/2 the natural talent that J has, but he has 1000% more leadership ability. I'll take Orton over J and the draft picks will help us rebuild too.

Packer Butch on November 13, 2009 7:18 AM

Jay Cutler = Jeff George = Rex Grossman. Can you pick out the franchise QB? I didn't think so....

The Monsters of the Midway become the Mediocre Midgets

Yes Cutler sucked but this team is bad. Anyone who thinks the defense was good has to remember how BAD the SF offense is any other team would have had 35 point on the Bears last night. This comes down to coaching and the lack of it. Matt Millen praised Rod M last night, that seals the deal on how bad thsi coaching is. Don't loose focus real Bears fans know Lovie and his ship of fools has to leave. Ortin only looks okay because he has a decent coach and okay team but they are going no where and if Ortin was here he would be getting his bottom kick. Cutler is a bbay we knew that going in and he is tiered of the CRAP recievers, Hester blows, the piss poor play calling and getting his ribs crushed.

I blame Obama. Cutler simply needs to be taxed for every pick. Obama must stop rich white men from getting paid too much and not producing. A punitive tax is the only to be fair to alland spread the wins.

...and the Bears still SUCK!!! Bwahahahahahahaha

I saw this coming from the 2nd preseason game. Lovie Smith exceeded his level of competence when he was hired as a football coach. If the McCaskeys' were willing to pay out more money, Lovie Smith would have never been hired. He was our second option. In 2006, this coaching staff was lucky to have the success they had because of the talent on defense! A blind Ted Phillips rewarded Angelo and Smith who in turn reward key defensive players with lucrative contract extensions and this is today's result!
Poor game adjustments, discipline, scheme and player development should not get rewarded! Maybe it's time for Phillips to step because he built this house of cards!
This will not change overnight!

If the McCaskeys' want to protect their investment, then hire some smart minded football personnel or sell while the value is still good!

I don't watch the Bears much anymore, but last night it seemed that the O-line was collapsing quicker than any quarterback would like...and did anyone see all those really, really low snaps?

I dont think I saw lovie smith even seem the least upset. I think he is fed up with the Owners of the Bears. They have way to much input into the team and he has given up. When are thy going to learn to stop running up the middle. HMMM I think I will run where everyone is and get tackled for a loss...... Once I saw them run to the left only to stop and come back to the middle and get swallowed up and the funny thing is the left side was still empty of defense. Ole 22 could of ran for 6 to 7 yards instead he is down for a loss. Then the last pick by cutler. He steps up to throw. He could of RUN the ball looser. he had a clean path but stops to throw into coverage. BUT I AM A CUB FAN SO I AM USED TO IT.

At least three of those picks weren't entirely Cutler's fault. Hester falling on a comeback with the ball in the air? The crossing route when the ref stepped forward and clipped Hester? How about that throw over the middle where the defender contacted Olsen first (stopping his momentum toward the ball) and escaped with the ball?

Yeah, 100% Cutler's fault. Those would have been picks if he was Tom Brady.

Broncos Fan on November 13, 2009 6:38 AM

HAHAHAHA! Cry Baby Jay lays another egg. I hated this over rated punk when he was in Denver, even before he started whining when coach McD was brought in. Thanks for the draft picks...and Kyle, suckers!

J Cutler is the BEST QB the 49ers have had all season

Superman where are you?

Not to mention a better winning percentage in both cities. Face it, Cutler is never going to help any team be better until he grows up, which I believe he's incapable of doing. He'll be a pouty, selfish adolescent his whole life. Another coddled athlete wrapped up in his own perceptions of himself as someone better than everyone else.

Funny arguments. Orton has less picks in the last season and a half than Cutler has in 9 games. Orton had a higher QB rating last year in Chicago than Cutler has this year. Orton has a higher QB rating in Denver right now than Cutler has ever had in a season in Denver. Maybe it's not the Bears and the Broncos, maybe Orton's just a better QB than Cutler, no matter where they are. I'm not a Bears or Broncos fan, and if I had to take one of the two to QB my team(not that I'd really want either), I know who it absolutely wouldn't be. That loser you keep defending for some reason known only to you. Maybe he's your cousin or something, I dunno.

Do you think Peyton Manning would lead the league in picks if he played for the Bears?

********

Tell me who the coaching staff, o-line and defense would be and then I will answer your question. How is Orton doing so well in Denver? Might want to think about that. Seriously, Bears fans are not getting it. FIRE THE COACHING STAFF AND START NEW!

Those of you who say Jay was good in Denver...no, not really. His stats are actually pretty mediocre and if you watched a lot of Denver games, you saw that his stats weren't really indicative of how not good he really was. Kind of like Aaron Brooks. If you take a look at his career stats, they were pretty good. But he sucked. So does Cutler. It's not his fault? Haha. Do you think Peyton Manning would lead the league in picks if he played for the Bears? Do you think they'd be 4-5? Cutler sucks. He doesn't even have to pretend to care much anymore now that he's gotten his second payday. That's why he's even worse in Chicago than Denver.

What a horrible QB class that ended up being. Young, Leinart, Cutler, puke.

Seriously...it is not Cutler...it is the coaching and our offensive line. How is Orton doing well in Denver...think about it. It is not rocket science. Fire the coaches from the bottom up and start new.

It will be interesting to hear from Phillips, Angelo, and Lovie, the NFL version of Moe, Larry, and Curly, to explain the offensive stench of this historical performance in San Francisco. Mere words cannot possibly describe this offensive juggernaut of the big blue machine offense. I wanted to laugh, but instead I was crying. I just hate it when the Bears suck this bad. The season is over, and there are still 7 games left. Wow ! And next year no first or second round picks. These are dark, dark days. 3 straight years of no playoffs. Your move, Michael McCaskey. Do something instead of counting your money. This entire organization, top to bottom, is a complete embarrassment, to put it kindly.

franchise....It is a very addictive think....franchise....everyone wishes they could start and profit of a franchise...problem is you have no idea who is going to run that franchise...By that I mean if you are starting a franchise or are lucky enough to buy one, you wonder if the people you sold it to if...by 'it' I mean franchise...franchise qb...some of us who but Burger King's and such can't imagine selling this franchise to a anti-social douche with a strong arm only subject to the defense.

Those picks, or incompletions, are not Cutler's fault. It's his equipment. He needs to get his helmet out of his eyes. No one can see his eyes, so how can he see anything? It's not Cutler's fault!

Well, well, well. McDaniel’s knew something after talking to Cuntler. Got rid of his poisonous personality for the better of the team. Bears gave too much for Baby Jay. Cuntler got Shanahan fired for losing three straight at the end of 2008. He will implode the Bears franchise! Good riddance Chicago!

Orton mostly sucked in Chicago (quarterback stats) and now is good in Denver.
Cutler was mostly good in Denver (quarterback stats) and now sucks in Chicago.
Seems like we have more than a quarterback problem. We have a system problem
with Chicago Bears offense, now even worsened by the s-ty offensive line additions
and no running game.

To all you Chicago fans who think the Broncos aren't going to win any more games....think again.

We have the Redskins (who are so disorganized it's a joke) this week, two more games against the Chiefs (who are atrocious) and another against the Raiders (who are just as bad). Then throw in the Chargers at home (who we already beat once), The Giants (who are struggling) and the Eagles (who every now and then decide to lose to the Raiders).

My guess is that we'll probably win at least four of those games, possibly 5...WHICH PUTS THE BRONCOS AT 10 OR 11 WINS. The last time I checked, that usually means you make the playoffs. Yes, we've lost two games in a row....but at least they've been to pretty decent teams. I do believe the Steelers won the Super Bowl last year if I remember correctly.

Have fun getting to 10 or 11 wins with two more against the Vikings, 1 against the Packers and 1 against the Ravens IN BALTIMORE. Heck, after putting up only 6 points against the 49ers, you may lose one or two to the Lions or Rams!

Have fun with the crybaby. He's awful. Yeah, he's got an arm, but he doesn't have a brain which shows in press conferences when he thinks there's nothing wrong even though he's leading the league in INTs. Ha! What a loser. I'll take a blue collar QB who just goes out and plays within his capabilities (both physically and mentally) and WINS.

Next grab is Shanahan. Pat Bowlen is just itching to unload his $20 million contract. Perhaps Shanahan can turn Cutler around.

Perfect Combination:

Cutler throws picks to defenders while the bears throw picks to the Broncos!

THANK YOU!

bears_fan_4_decades on November 13, 2009 12:34 AM

Contrary to public opinion -
Ron Turner did NOT throw 5 interceptions tonight -

And just like I thought - jayboy made a jerk of himself at the postgame presser.

What a swindle - we paid $50-million for a pick machine - a stat-building LOSER! And you can tell he doesn't even care - just as long as those checks keep rollin' in - YOUR money and MY money!!!

Pick-throwing wuss - someone needs to check that stoop-shouldered pouty-faced morphdite sumbich cutler's jock for a BEAver ...

Meanwhile, the donkee-lovers cheer and fist-bump as we keep losing and OUR draft picks that they got (along with dumping cutler's salary on us) keep growing in value with every Bear loss!

A new NFL term has been created
5-pick games will now be referred to as 'cutler-phuques!'

We REALLY got punked in that trade - and with all our picks gone
it's gonna' take YEARS to fix this.

Lovie Then.....Rex Grossman is our quarterback
Lovie Now.....Jay Cutler is our quarterback
Can anyone say Hanie, the season is over.
Get rid of Angelo, and then Lovie and Cutler also, a franchise QB who was 21-24 going into tonight, so 17-20 before joining the Bears. Kyle Orton is 27-12, 21-10 as a bear. At least the "D" wasnt that bad tonight, GO BEARS 2010!

Just think of the quarterback that the Broncos will be drafting with the high draft pick that they will receive from da bears this year. Orton might not be the answer there, but all of those bear draft picks will be.

Pathetic!

Cutler is the Saviour of Bears Football on November 13, 2009 12:10 AM

I think it's funny all the comments of "two of those picks" weren't his fault. Whatever. He still threw them, they're on his numbers forever now. All QBs have picks that aren't their fault, but no others have 17 picks this year. And don't forget that there were at least three other throws from ShortBus that could have been and probably should have been picked. Stop making excuses for him. The guy sucks.

And there's another comment halfway down the page that calls Cutler a good QB (no, mediocre at best) and Forte a "great" running back. Are you kidding me? There are at least 20 backs in the league that I'd prefer over Forte. Great? LOL

Da Bears Suck on November 13, 2009 12:07 AM

How can anyone say you can't blame Cutler for this lose? HE THREW 5 FREAKING INTERCEPTIONS!!

Ha ha ha .....better him a Bear than a Bronco. Thanks for the trade, the teamate, the good human being, the non selfish player, the consistent QB.

Justareminder on November 13, 2009 12:04 AM

Ernie Banks never won the big games either. He is nonetheless revered for playing on a hapless team and trying to win.

Orton and Grossman would have been sacked. At least Cutler is throwing the ball downfield, albeit to no one on our team. We need an offensive line that can act like men. Learn the snap count guys! We need a pair of decent recievers to compliment Olson at TE. Forte is doing more than we had hoped but it would be nice to have taken advantage of a kid from the backyard - Rashad Mendenhall!

Angelo needs to wake up before it's too late. Yes, this season is over. It really was when the defense took those injuries. Hester isn't a primary receiver but he is getting better. Maybe the McCaskeys can buy him some shoes that won't slip so easily!

Yeah i like to thank You Bears for signing Cutler. Yeah maybe 3 of those interceptions werent his fault. But those two interceptions in the redzone were the ones that lost you the game Those were completely horendous. It looked he purposely threw it to the defenders. You guys defense looked awesome.

Bronco-Lovin' MAMA!!!!!!!! on November 13, 2009 12:00 AM

I really hope all of you like Cutler. It is tedious to here you say how it's not his fault because of the OL. Hello? Duh? Great quarterbacks make plays even when the protection breaks down in case you didn't know. True, Orton is no Cutler but that's a good thing. We can pick us ap a QB with your draft picks. Jay still gets his paycheck every week. Hope he throws a big party this weekend! Frankly, I was so glad to see the pre-school cry-baby leave Denver. What a little punk he is. To be fair, he has an occassional brilliant moment but he never will be one of the great ones. Thanks for your draft picks and hey Bears Fans: THERE'S ALWAYS NEXT YEAR! Oh yeah, you don't have any good draft picks-sorry!

One ugly football game involving 2 below-average teams.

Jay had 5 picks. That we know. 2 were not his fault. Devin Hester fell down on a route; Adrian Peterson got picked by the umpire.

The three others were head-slapping, face-palming, Brett-Favre-ian, "What was he thinking" kind of INTs. On top of that, Jay's red-zone plan seems to be, "Throw it to Greg Olsen, even if he's triple-covered."

By the way, is Greg Olsen the WORST run-blocking TE you've ever seen? I saw at least 5 Forte runs that got blown up because Olsen missed his block, before I stopped counting.

That being said, look on the other side of the ball. SF's defense gave their offense 4 turnovers, and the most they could managed was 10 points. That's some kind of awful. Their special teams were also bad, with a missed FG and bad punting. SF should feel as concerned with this "win" as the Bears did after their "win" over the absolutely atrocious Browns.

The Bears stink.
The Bulls, jury's still out.
The Hawks, was never much of a hockey fan.

But I hear that the Fire have made it to the MLS playoffs.

Go Fire.

Bearfan _in_CLT on November 12, 2009 11:57 PM

On the last INT Cutler had Bennett WIDE OPEN on the left side of the EZ but instead locked in on Olsen and forced a pass into triple coverage - or maybe there were 4 9er defenders. If this had been his first pick of the game I might have given him the benefit of the doubt for trying to win it...but this is the kind of mistake rookie QBs make.

Rex Grossman used to give me nightmares....dumbest QB in the NFL and incapable of reading defenses. I rejoiced when they finally woke up and let him go. Now my nightmares have returned....

I blame all you fair weather Bears fans for us being stuck with Cutler.

Rex was a great quarter back with a crappy offensive line.

BRING BACK REX! BRING BACK REX! BRING BACK REX!

Today someone asked me if I watched football games. I said no, I watch the Bears.

Bronco-lovin' Mama, sex with a horse is a crime (and for a monther to do it sets a bad example). I'm pretty sure Cutler doesn't do THAT, at least.

SeasonTixHolder....great post. I too am a STH and thankfully, I don't have PSL's, so the tickets are somewhat affordable.....but I didn't go to any games last year and none this year....I sell all my tickets or give them to friends. I just don't like the make up of this team. The guy I liked (Orton) they traded. So here we are. Phillips, Angelo and Smith are all bed buddies and all have large contracts so little will change I'm afraid. Its sad really that a large market team with a rich sitory like the Bears are so poorly run. PIT and NE and IND are well run machines. When you have detached owners like the McChumps who put everything into the hands of a bean counter, this is the result. Simple as that. This is Angelo's 8th season...2 playoff appearnaces; not good in my book but the McChumps think he walks on water. But what do I know? I know one thing. I'm pulling for DEN to go all the way.

Jay Cutler sucks.

verbally abusing tv on November 12, 2009 11:43 PM

The announcer said it all in the beginning. Jay Cutler coming in to this game had 6 red zone picks this season. Tom Brady has had 6 red zone picks in his entire career. Well Cutler just add a bunch more tonight. Seemed like he was forcing the ball to his good buddy Olsen who had 3 defenders around him any time he was in the red zone. It was easy for SF. Granted it is not all Cutler's fault. First get rid of that clown they call an OC. I am not sure why he is even there. He coached a losing Illini football program so some moron thought to bring him in as OC for the Bears? How about someone that can coach a winning college program? All he has done is mishandled the talent given to him from the start. "Duh, let's run the screen to Hester again." He is completely incapable of out witting the vast majority of DCs. Make Toub OC. Also, is it me or was Orlando Pace and Chris Williams 5 yards in the backfield on every run play. Where is the push by these large tackles. I was glad to see Pace replaced as he gets beat by every DE in the league.

From someone who already gave up on this season and therefore was able to see this game objectively: It's clear that the only reason Cutler threw 5 INTs was because he knows his team sucks and has to force the issue for them to have a chance.

Stop worrying about Cutler. Worry about Smith and the coaching staff.

SeasonTixHolder on November 12, 2009 11:42 PM

Fellow Bears Fans - Blame the Chicago Bears Inc... As of tonight, I don't think anyone in this city truly cares about this team and won't bother posting much beyond tonight. Watched the game at my local BWW and the crowd was abnormally sparse and those present really didn't care.
Yet again this year, I made the mistake of purchasing season tickets (thank god they can't ruin tailgating), drawn in by the lie that things would be better. The same lie the coaching staff and players hoped wouldn't be true. But now, 2 years in a row, we get the awesome right of the majority of home games scheduled
after mid-November (again) so that I can now enjoy an expensive, meaningless, and cold form of entertainment formerly resembling football. What the Chicago Bears Inc. is offering is a product based on past exaggerated history and simple hype for the future. In between those two marketing ploys is reality. A business that wastes money on long term contracts in a sport where player's stars shine for only a few years and coaches just a bit longer. This franchise's destiny may indeed be heading down the dark road the Blackhawks were prior to their rebirth due to other circumstances. Yes, the NFL is king, but the McCaskeys continue to profit from just and only that, a great sport and extremely loyal fans, but NOT winning football (like Pittsburgh, New England have done). After 3 straight years and the first time since the late 90's, these loyal fans/customers are starting to lose serious interest. Take the temporary losses and rebuild the whole organization, losing your customers is much more costly. Just the simple effort instead of resistence is all we want to hear. But what do I know, I support the team... for now. Stop screwing Chicago fans McCaskeys! - a dog could own this team and pull a profit, he might actually listen too.

Did anyone happen to watch the post game report on the NFL channel? I happen to agree with what Dion Sanders had to say. Jay does not make the team better. Not only was he horrible with his picks tonight, he has NO leadership skills. You watch his body language when the going gets tough. He sits there and mopes about with his head hanging down. Then he's caught laughing on the sidelines like no big deal. There is no fire in him. If things don't go his way he cry's to the refs then sits on the bench with that pathetic look on his face.

Jay Cutler is not a leader! He has not shown leadership skills since being in the league. Do you think a leader would have cried his way out of Denver like he did? I'm surprised at how everyone was ready to crown this clown the answer to the Bears problems. Why in the world would they they gave him an extension so quickly? What does he have to prove?

He has a hell of a lot of talent, but it is just too bad that he doesn't know how to use it. Grow up Jay! You aren't a baby anymore. Take some responsibility for your pathetic play and step up and be a leader. See Payton Manning.

Cutler had better offensive players around him in Denver, but he's never been good. He made the Pro Bowl, yeah, but he didn't deserve it. And he's always caved under pressure in the red zone. Remember last year when he was bailed out against the Chargers by Ed Hochuli.

Not to mention he's a sad sack of a miserable human being. Would you really want to go hang out and have a beer with this guy? Would you want to be friends with Mr. Cutler? I know I wouldn't. Not the kind of man I want leading my football team.

DON'T go to Bears games! I know I won't. This is the only way the McCaskey will pay attention to our anger and frustration. I'm sure you all have better things to do on Sunday then watching this stinky garbage!

Mike Shanahan is waiting for your call McCaskey!!

BroncoswantCutlerback on November 12, 2009 11:36 PM

Man oh man oh man, never thought I would ever feel good about watching the cry baby snivel on the sidelines of the Bears. but I do....I would of taken Grossman and a 1-15 season before I would like to see the baby on our sidelines again. Great team player. He has his money now so what the hell.
Can't get over reading all the bears fans sounding just like the bronco fans after a game like tonight. Making all kinds of excuses and on and on... Watching the game I could feel just about every one of those interceptions coming, having watched him for two and a half years it becomes second nature (You all will see) you get him for a long long time.
By the end of next year nothing will change except the excuses.....Face it, Jay really sucks as a QB, and that is a shame, he has a great arm and is pretty accurate when he isn't making the dumbest decisions on the field but that will not change. He has to big of an ego and will never be a team player....Funny Funny shit tho, loved the game, almost feel bad for you guys but if I thought that was just a fluke I would have. But you Bears fans have many many many more games coming just like this one....Enjoy and thank you for the great pick next year....Go Go Jay, get us to the top 10...hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Questionable decisions? The guy makes BAD decisions. Maybe a sports hypnotist could put a stop to it.

We've seen bad QB's before and we'll see more in the future. Does Jay throw too many picks ? YES. Is he better than the last 20 QB's we had in Chicago ? YES ! All you Bronco fans will see how good Orton is now that everyone has tape on him, Great passer if you only throw 5 yd. passes ! You can all kiss my Chicago BUTT !

I don't know if Cutler is the future, he's made terrible decisions both here and in Denver. He needs to mature and be humble, but more than anything, he needs a good QB coach.
And to all the Bronco idiots commenting here....what are you smiling about? if it wasn't for Mike Nolan your team would be 2-6. Now that the league knows that McDude's "system" is just a big charade (news flash: Kyle Orton is not Tom Brady)....let's see how you handle the Skins.....at least Cutler is not pretending to be Bellichik's unwanted son.

BearsFan in Vegas on November 12, 2009 11:33 PM

I really cant be too mad at Cutler for this loss....The past 4 games, whats become clearer and clearer is this:
1. ALL coaches need to go. Little imagination on O, lack of pressure and bad tackling on D.
2. Offensive line couldnt block if they were facing a high school team. Look at every play that Forte gets hit behind the LOS. Cutler is running for his life and is making some questionable decisions.
3. Hester has improved but is not a #1, no matter what they say. Bennett is just awful and we little else.
4. We cant run, cant protect, cant stop the run, cant rush the passer....6 and 10 folks.

Barney Frank on November 12, 2009 11:31 PM

California Bear Fan....you gotta be a Obama droid with all your HOPE....all I have to say is NOPE! To BO and JC! You keep hoping 20 years from now for another Super Bowl. Grossman is not the guy!

Thanks for Jay Cutler Denver! Now here's a top ten pick in next years draft! Oh yea, and the next one too! Up yours Lovie.

Entire Team needs an overhaul starting with the ridiculous O-line, we officially have the worst o-line in the league, I have watched every game this year and every game I see Cutler getting pressured right after the snap, Kruetz is washed, Pace is Washed, Garza is Washed, and Williams and Beekman are both inexperienced, freaking Adrian Peterson(the real one) would have a tough time running with this garbage line....then on to our pisspoor in over their heads recieving corps, of course Greg Olsen can't get open, he's the only real weapon Cutler has to throw to. The Defense actually played well tonight but lets not fool ourselves the 49ers are not world beaters, we need to let go of some people and inject some new life into this defense, hell we don't have any 1st or 2nd round draft picks, lets get out and get a couple of free agents, some notable FA's are Michael Roos, Stephen Neal, Lee Evans, Brandon Marshall, Lofa Tatupa, Shawn Merriman, Elvis Dumervil, Demarcus Ware, Terrance Newman, James Harrison, Nick Harper, Atari Bigby, Antoine Bethea...all of the players could easily fill in the trouble areas O-line, Safety, LBs, D-line, but of course we are blessed with owners who feel that you can still win by keeping the same team year in and year out, I wouldn't be suprised if we sign nothing but second tier free agents because Angelo "feels comfortable with the players we have right now"....

RiverNorthDope on November 12, 2009 11:28 PM

It is Cutler's fault they cant run the ball. It is Cutler's fault Angelo cant draft a good O-Lineman. It is Cutler's fault they didn't think it was necessary to obtain a professional receiver who knows how to run routes and make adjustments. It is Cutler's fault that Hester fell down. It is Cutler's fault the umpire jumped in front of Hester on the crossing pattern. It is Cutlers fault the D gave up 40+ points 2 of the last 4 weeks. It is Cutler's fault Urlacher is out. Looking at these boards is like being at the office the next day when the know nothing secretary says something about the Bears qb being bad. If you think Cutler is the problem with this team, you should probably go put your head in an oven.

MATT FORTE IS OVERWEIGHT, HE IS NOT AS FAST AS HE WAS LAST YEAR. HE DOESN'T HIT THE HOLE WITH ANY BURST.

BENSON LOOKS IN GOOD SHAPE AND HE LOOKS LEANER/FASTER.

didn't you guys figure Cutler was the 2nd coming of Brett Farve. He's the trailer trash version

High haters high haters you see me high haters. Cutler is not a passing qb. i told you guys he sucked. rex grossman was the best qb we've had here in a long time. keep telling yourself it's everyone else except cutler. hypocrites when rex was here all you did was complain. see what you get a 30 mill dollar bum which we gave up 3 1st rounds for. he's not a difference maker.. Rex Grossman baby

When are people going to realize it is Ron Turner's ridiculous play calling that makes the Bears look this bad? He ruined Illinois for years to come even though he had some the of best talent in the country and he will continue to ruin the Bears until he is booted. Hey Ron, run that 1.5 yd blast up the middle on 1st down, call that 2 yd screen pass on then throw to Olsen on 3rd and 7 everytime....Moron.

J.Colson in Chicago on November 12, 2009 11:25 PM

1st -- Season over. Bears will go 6-10.
2nd -- What a terribly coached team. How many penalties?
3rd -- The offense was pathetic. A great RB, a good QB who made some absolutely terrible decisions, and NOTHING else. 6 points?!? Turner should be fired on the spot.
4th -- This team needs some serious changes for next year, or it will be even worse. No 1st draft pick hurts a lot. The biggest needs are on the O- and D-lines, which continue to be just awful, but the overall attitude is what makes me worry the most.

4-12 in '10?

here is the bottom line: cutler has more talent than orton. no debate there. the problem is that he's immature. that's all it is. he needs to grow up. he really needs to bring his ego down a notch and realize the only way he leads the bears to victories is by studying. at this point, he is simply trying to show the world his gunslinging can win. take a lesson from peyton manning jay and work.

For all those who are giving Lovie credit for '06, don't forget that was one of the easiest regular seasons in the history of the modern league.

So this Hester INT you keep talking about. Hester fell down, but the defender caught the ball in front of him! How does that mean its the recievers fault?! And if I remember he threw a redzone INT to a DEFENSIVE LINEMAN. What does that tell you? Did Hester fall down in front of the DT?

Could Cutler become the first $30 million QB in history to lead the league in red zone interceptions two consecutive years?

Bearfan _in_CLT on November 12, 2009 11:22 PM

All you folks praising the defense for their effort tonight are kidding yourselves. SF is a BAD football team with an offense just as bad or worse than the Bears. The fact that the Bears D looked like they played a better game tonight than last Sunday is misleading.....the sad fact is that against AZ they just got whupped by a much better O and tonight they played a terrible offense. There was no defensive improvement - just a much worse opponent.

Get rid of Turner NOW.

BOYCOTT THE GAMES FOLKS......THE ONLY THING THE MCCASKEY'S NOTICE!!!!!!!! DON'T BUY ANYTHING WITH CHICAGO BEARS ON IT!!!!!

To be fair, Jamarcus Russel has a rocket for an arm too. Merely being able to launch the pigskin doesn't a great QB make.

Yes, winning/losing is a team effort. But every team needs a leader, and that's usually the quarterback. I noticed tonight that Cutler sat off by himself pretty much the whole game. Seems to me that most quarterbacks engage their teammates, study when the D is on the field, and, at the very least, look like they give a d@mn.

But oh wait...he got his fat contract...so he probably doesn't care.

And for everyone saying the Bears are going to improve in the next year...with what draft picks/cap space? Cause Cutler's sucking up both of those...

BOYCOTT THE GAMES FOLKS......THE ONLY THING THE MCCASKEY'S NOTICE!!!!!!!! DON'T BUY ANYTHING WITH CHICAGO BEARS ON IT!!!!!

California Bears Fan on November 12, 2009 11:21 PM

I was hoping that Cutler would take some of the attention away from the defense, but not like this. It is so easy for fans to post messages that an NFL quarterback suck. We all have proven we can do better right?

I hope Cutler will prove to be a great Bear QB, but I wondered all along how he was pro bowl. In my mind, a pro bowl QB's have been to teh playoffs. Cutler never accomplished anything significant in Denver but he was going to be MVP on the Bears. You all knew it. And now he sucks right? Because you on your couch say so? The emotional drivel I see coming from Bears fans is pathetic. This team has been on the decline for years and you just couldnt see it. Lovies system is broken. Angelo doesn't have the magic. Cutler is the best thing we have to build on.

Jay! Thanks for making me look good, pardner. I owe you one. Er, owe you five.

To paraphrase Al Capone in "The Untouchables" when it comes to Ron Turner, the Bears offensive coordinator, I want him DEAD! I want his family DEAD! I want his house burned to the GROUND! I wanna go there in the middle of the night and I wanna PISS ON HIS ASHES!

And I am coolly, calmly, wholly serious.

If we lived in the world I'd like to this would have been done several weeks ago.

Sports, when it all comes down to it, is definitively NOT "a game" and performances like this evening's ought not go unpunished.

There's entirely too much riding on it emotionally, psychically, and financially for this kind of nonsense to be allowed to continue week after week after week

RiverNorthDope on November 12, 2009 11:20 PM

Actually I stand corrected. Orton can throw a long touchdown, as long as it bounces off someones head and ricochets to an uncovered receiver for an 80 yard touchdown. That was definitely skill. Kyle Orton would have made us win the Bengals and Cards game for sure. And he would have beaten Pitt too. Right.

Let's give him another $30M!!! on November 12, 2009 11:19 PM

Baby Cutler was my most unliked player in the NFL in recent years. Then MY Bears acquired him. I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I tried to give him a chance. I can no longer do it. He has hijacked MY team.

Tell the Truth on November 12, 2009 11:19 PM

There are those who will credit Cutler with getting the team down field - thanks, in part, to a dumb SF penalty on 4th down - during the last drive. There will also be those who credit Cutler with having a strong arm. And there will be those who blame the coaching and the offensive line and the receiving corps and the confused running back and tight ends.

Then there will be those who will know that while all of this is true, Cutler will likely never lead the Bears to a Super Bowl championship.

Does that make him worth the picks given up to secure him?

You can answer that for yourself if Denver is in the Super Bowl in the near future.

lefty hitter on November 12, 2009 11:19 PM

There is certainly enough blame to go around. Lovie says that they "get off the bus running" yet they rush for 42 yards. 2 delay of game penalties in the closing minute of the first half. Penalties galore. In Devin Hester you have a wide receiver in training yet he being paid as though he were an accomplished WR. I'm no fan of Cutler but with all of the above what is he going to do except throw the ball. Even a mediocre defensive coordinator knows that and you can stack the defense to play the pass. 52 pass attempts tonight. I hope there is enough ice on the charter for his to ice down his elbow after 52 attempts.

Top to bottom the entire organization reeks with mediocrity. Both Los Angeles and Las Vegas are planning to build NFL stadia (stadiums for all you folks who did not take Latin in high school). Ship the entire franchise to one of those places and get an expansion franchise. Could not do much worse. One more game against the Packers and 2 against the Vikings. Can you say 6 and 10 this year?

ONLY Jerry Angelo (Ted Phillips' bed buddy) would mortgage the future for a guy who has a losing record...for a guy that pouts, for a guy that has bad mechanics....all because he has a strong arm....oooooh, I's so impressed....throw it threw a brick wall for all I care, but you still can't hit the broad side of a barn.

Bronco Fan, you are crazy. I watched that San Diego game last year - Cutler never had a chance. "He had his chances." Elway never won with a bad D either (go look it up). Cutler knows he has to do it all himself and is forcing the issue and making mistakes. I get that. But to blame him for your team not having a winning record last year is why I can't stand most Bronco Fans, like you, Bronco Fan.

Cutler didn't lose the Cincinnati game or the Arizona game. He lost the Green Bay game, and he lost this game. He also won the Pittsburgh game. The Atlanta loss was a total team effort.

PS Even when all of you defend Orton, you know deep down he's not the answer. Go watch your last two games over again if you don't believe me.

Cutler has talent, but often doesn't make very good decisions. That's where a good coach would come in. Instead of taking a timeout to set up a play that had a chance of success, Cutler tried the same play to Olson, that didn't work the first time. At least toss it up high at the back of the end zone and give him a chance to make a play, instead of SF. Thanks God for the Blackhawks.

Philip Rivers on November 12, 2009 11:15 PM

I think it's funny everyone who's laughing at Broncos fans for gloating. Yeah, Orton sucks, too, but at least he's not a POS human being who doesn't care about winning the game. And it's not like it was a man for man swap. With the draft picks, Denver absolutely got the best of that deal. And as QB for the Chargers I'd have rather seen that little girl still be in a Broncos uni. No way would they be 6-2 with Cutler.

It's time for Bears ownership tp admit their GM gave up WAY too much for a punk QB who blames everyone but himself for his own mistakes. It's time for the McCaskey's to take control of their own franchise and fire Jerry Angelo!

How about Aaron Rodgers for 4 #1's

Love ya, Chicago.
Peace.

Thank goodness the Vikings had enough sense not to pick him up in a trade offer. And not to stick up for him, but one of the receivers should have been at the right place during his third pick tonight. And though the Bears are out of the playoff picture, I predict the Bears will beat the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field this year. Thank you Culter, Hester, and co. SKOL Vikings!

Lorenzo Meriwether on November 12, 2009 11:12 PM

Lot of fans in here crying about Cutler and how he sucks. No! Cutler doesn't suck. Ron Turner does. McCaskey family I'm sure you won't read this but Turner needs to be fired tonight. I don't think Marriuchi would look at a team like the Bears, but I'm positive that Mike Martz would be ready and willing to take over this offense for the Philadelpia game. No, we still will not be ready for the playoffs this year. But we will improve over the course of the season and be playoff ready next year with the return of Urlacher, Kevin Jones and Melton. Yes, these would be key additions. ONCE AGAIN, FIRE RON TURNER, HIRE MIKE MARTZ.....

the only thing funnier than the bears offensive line is denver fans who think their team is going places without throwing a pass longer than 8 yards. talk all the trash you want, your offense has managed a whole 10 points total the last two weeks.

Bear Squirrel...you are the dope who ran out the first day and bought a $200 Jay Grossman jersey. Am I right? The NFL loves dolts like you. Keep buying the hype and overpriced garbage.

Philip Rivers on November 12, 2009 11:09 PM

Hey, guys, Philip Rivers here. Remember when people thought I was the punk QB because that whiny little girl couldn't take some trash talk? Who's on my side now?

He wasn't good in Denver! He never made the playoffs, never did a single thing but drive down the field and throw a pick in the red zone. He certainly wasn't Elway in Denver.

Wow! I can't believe I stayed up and watched this whole game. It is becoming harder and harder to be a Bears fan. To you Jay Cutler and I actually hope you read these. Stop now. Stop making Bears fans feel like absolute garbage. I would have rathered watched you throw an interception on the first play of the possesion. You have no right to sit there and smile and laugh on the sidelines, after throwing bad ball after bad ball. Quit looking at one possible reciever and look the field for the guy that is open. We are a proud sports city in Chicago and proud of our teams. But enough is enough. Right now, I feel embarassed about you being a part of this team. Show what you're made of and start finishing what you start. I know it's something you're capable of, so prove it to the NFL, and more importantly to every Chicago fan that believed you were our guy.

RiverNorthDope on November 12, 2009 11:07 PM

Are some of you really that stupid? You think it is a coincidence that Cutler goes from the best O-Line in the league with Marshall and Royal to the worst with a bunch of clowns who cant understand the playbook and his performance suffers? So the people bashing him just believe he turned bad overnight randomly? Really?

Hey media: No more excuses for Cutler. on November 12, 2009 11:06 PM

I am as loyal a Bears fan as they come, and I am debating whether I can continue to support this team with such an unlikeable, poor-performing, choke-in-big-games quarterback who the Bears foolishly commited to long-term.

The 49ers were giving the Bears that game! Alex Smith could barely complete a pass. The Bears D was great.

Cutler's last INT was the season.

Enough with every media outlet giving Cutler a pass. No more blaming the o-line or the running game or the inexperienced receivers. Cutler is a bad QB. He is the worst QB in the league in the red zone -- look at the numbers. He makes dumb decisions and poor throws and then pouts on the sideline and barely glances at the print-outs of the plays. The INT numbers don't lie!

Why do you keep making excuses for cutler? It's the O-line or referees or receivers or or or. A top QB with with a shred of leadership ability figures out how to win. Or in this case, not throw the D under the bus. He's an immature, overpaid whiner with a losing career record.

Nancy Legosi on November 12, 2009 11:05 PM

Like Barrack, Mr. Cutler will bring change....just you wait.

Hey those of you blaming the coaches--the last couple of years he had Shanahan, a great offensive coordinator, Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal and a stud offensive line, and he still had a losing record. Yeah the defense was awful but he had his chances and the only time I remember him coming up clutch was the Hochuli blown call.

Bear Squirrel on November 12, 2009 11:05 PM

Look--at least two of those picks were not Cutler's fault: Hester fell & missed his route, & a ref caused our guy to miss another. The short pick was also the cause of our guy getting shouldered and turned away from the ball. This was not a bad game. So no, sorry, this wasn't all Cutler. There was definitely bad luck out there quite a bit tonight.

Denver Dave, and all the rest of you Denver fans, we aren't going to the Super Bowl this year, but neither are you. You've come out of the bye week dead. Combined losses of 58-17. But yes you have two nice #1 picks and can get anyone you want, so I'm sure you'll get a QB then. And we wish you the best. But go back to the Denver Post.

Oh, and I hate your airport, because it sucks and hires Al-Qaeda operatives.

But he's such a gunslinger! Even when he gets picked he throws that ball so hard. So fun to watch. Give him another contract extension NOW!

This game set the sport back 50 years.

Terrible play calling
Turnovers
Penalties
Bad blocking
More terrible play calls

Two of the worst coached teams I have seen in some time.
Not counting the Raiders, of course.

I am so glad we don't have that crybaby Cutler anymore. Now you guys get to enjoy him for many years to come. He never takes responsibility for his actions and he will ultimately cause more issues than help you. Even you fans have to agree...Orton wasn't flashy but he won games. He is still winning games while Cutler continues his ~.500 average on wins.

Rex is back. He has a different name shortly called JC

To all Bronco fans...congrats....you pulled off the heist of the 2000's....great trade by your GM/coach/owner....I bet Pat Bowlen is laughing his arse off. You will win wiht Orton....I am now a Bronco fan becasue of Orton......I know he had a bad game last week, but he is a gamer, a leader, and a winner...none of which Cutler is!

ILuvJayCutler on November 12, 2009 11:02 PM

I think it's hilarious that some Bears fans are still defending Cutler, and blaming it all on the O-line. Don't worry, I'm sure Jay's doing the same thing. That's always been his MO. Choke at the critical time and find someone else to point the finger at. Guy's always been a loser, always will be.

I mean seriously, this team under Lovie is pathetic, I've seen posts in the past to keep a few coaches, Toub specifically, but his only claim to fame is 2006. That team had a fantastic D, but without the Special Teams we would have been 10-6, maybe 9-7, is that any basis for claiming to be a good team? Special Teams as your front runner? Really? As stated before, I will NOT root for any other team, in any pro sport, other than a Chicago team, I guess I'm in for more free time in my life coming up really soon, the cheap @$$ McCasky's will not cough up any extra dough to put a good product on the field, not worth my time.

denbob...Did you see the post game? Cutler say that he needs to opologize to the offensive and defense line for being horrible.

Nancy Legosi on November 12, 2009 10:59 PM

Hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaa to all you Cutler fans....you are too dumb to watch football....go put on your Jay Grossman jersey.

Cutler is a franchise QB, the franchise who lines up opposite the Bears.

Orton doesn't have to win the game for us. Just get it to the Beast and Royal. With the Bear's first rounder maybe we can get a qb for the future.

Do you think we can call a do over on the trade? BRING BACK ORTON!!!

Wow ! I had no idea this game would turn out THIS BAD!!! I hate to say this,I truly do but the Bears just aren't fun to watch anymore. They haven't been for two years. Sorry fellow lifelong Bears fans but that is my opinion. I hoped for a Bears explosion of sorts tonight at Frisco. You know, big D plays, breakout offensive plays. Nada. Cutler is fine but he can't carry the entire team or coaching staff. Get the F%#k rid of Turner tonight. Put in Gilbert Gotfried or Miley Freakin Cyrus but get Turner OUT NOW! Having said that I must also say GO BEARS! Let's salvage this season!

What surprised me was the complete apathy Jay C was showing after the game. He doesn't take responsibility for this fiasco or even acknowledge that he sucks. They all suck. The D was better tonight but last week they were horrible. Where is the talent- why is the discipline so obviously lacking. Players that cause stupid penalties at the end of the game should just be canned. You put a no stupid penalty clause in the contracts and maybe they start think twice about hitting people after the play is dead. Tommie Harris should be traded immediately. Who puts up with this crap?

Hey Bronco fan, what are you smiling about? Your team has been exposed the last two weeks. Orton may get you to the playoffs, but he'll never get you over the hump. Not that Cutler will get us there either.

Any real pro team runs iso plays for one WR in the red zone. Except the Bears. You need a good WR to make those plays. Go watch Manning and Wayne sometime. Or Brady and Moss. Or any team with real WRs and a real offensive coordinator.

jay cutler = barack obama; so much for hope.

True, Orton probably isn't going to be a HOF QB. Just out of curiosity, you think Cutler's going to the pro bowl this year?

Oh well...looks like the Donkeys can take Chicago's #1 pick next year and take a QB. Pretty deep class in the next draft.

I just added this on ChicagoBears.com:
If the entire coaching staff, and I mean everyone, is still in place by this time next week, you have lost a lifetime fan of this team, and since I can't bear (no pun intended) to root for any other NFL team, the NFL has lost a supporter. This is absolutely pathetic, yes the talent on the field has a few deficiencies with injuries and bad decisions on the personel front, but they lack any form of discipline and effort, that comes down to coaching and an environment that enables poor behavior, that is unacceptable.

At least my Sunday won't be ruined.

Don't expect Orton to win many games for the rest of the season. He eventually was going to start choking.

Ha ha yeah hopefully he just manages the games and lets the defense win it. And hopefully he won't throw 5 interceptions.

Grossman + Orton + Cutler = Turner

I for one believed we had finally found OUR QB...boy, WHERE'S THE CROW? To Lovies defense, the Defense showed up today...but the offense and Cutler, well you know the story. With the season OVER, someone-especially the Coach needs to sit down and rip a new one on Jay! This was ALL his doing, and I'll bet he will come out on his post game and say, "We could all have done a little better." Nothing would satisfy me but him saying he SUCKED major organ! But SOMEONE needs to say something. Man, it really sucks to be a Chicago Sports Fan!!!!!!!!!

Well Now that the bears are 4-5 how is cutler working out for you bears fans? I told you I would leave ya alone and comeback midway though the season but I even waited another game. 17 INTS on the year and 7 games left in your season dont worry fans cutler is only getting better every year at throwing the INT'S his first full season as started with the broncos he threw 14 INTS last year he threw 18 INT'S and this year well he is already at 17 INTS for the year and you still have 7 games left who knows how high it will end up. Anyway thanks for Orton and the two 1st round picks and the 3rd round pick we will enjoy picking in your slot in the 1st round in next years draft. At the rate the bears are going it may even be a top ten pick.

I said: theqbreallysucksbigtime

Bronco Fan....hate to say this but your Orton was a 6 game wonder. Don't expect to see Orton win many games for the rest of the season for the Broncos.

Like Lovie says. The Bears are a better team than what they showed tonight, they will improve after this game, and they have 7 games left and are still in the race.

7 games left. That's good for 30 more interceptions from Cutler.

Cutler had a bad game. However, only 2 of those INT's were his fault. What is very clear is that Lovie and Turner are in WAY over there heads. I seriously dought the Bears will win another game this year. Let's all hope this happens because (hopefully) this will force McCheapskate to fire the entire front office. This includes the bean counter president (who knows nothing about football) Idiot GM who can't evaluate talent. Lovie the loser our dumb a** coach. Ron turnover Turner who must be in another world with his play calling inability. I think it will be a long, long time before the Bears are a respectable team again, perhaps 2-4 years if they make changes at the end of the year.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR LOVIE'S COORS LITE COMMERCIAL!
Dreaming of our former coach Lovie.

thisguyreallysucks

once again, where is the discipline? how many penalties? yet, come on, another game we should have EASILY won. Our D crushed them. We shut down VD and Gore.

If not for the O putting them in bad field position twice, Niners might of had 3 had they not missed the FG. That was their only real points ...

few, gonna barf.

thisguyreallysucks

Maybe you guys can get someone good in the draft this year...oh wait...

On October 20, the Cutler and the Bears came to terms on a two-year contract extension worth $30 million dollars. Cutler's contract will now run up to 2013. WHY. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY THIS TEAM IS TOAST. A CONTRACT EXTENSION OF 30 MIL AFTER 3 GAMES! FOR WHAT?

What a F!@#$ng retard this QB we have!! Is he trying to help Denver with their drafts or something?! Send his arse back to Denver!! Ron Turner and Lovie Smith should be fired right about now!!

look, the NFL sucks. They use fat, old men to officiate the game. The calls they made were ridiclous. "Wale" is like an inch offides on the INT called back, but, they can wipe out Olsen on his route.

That's not mentioning they are either screening us, or blocking for them at times. They cannot even get out of the way or USE GOOD JUDGEMENT when officiating a game.

What is their real job and why are they out there?

of Jay's 5 picks, he owns 2 of them, the most critical two, the first and last.

No excuses Jay, that was plain stupid.
