The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette report: Former Bears coach Dave Wannstedt, who leads his No. 8 Pitt Panthers Friday against rival West Virginia, wants his players to come closer to the ideal of a student-athlete than you might find at some of the nation's better college football programs.

The paper relays a story of Wannstedt checking in on his players at their classes, including one in which a freshman, who made the mistake of running late to a class, was surprised to see his coach waiting for him. "His eyes lit up like Christmas lights when he walked in and saw me standing there," Wannstedt told the newspaper.

Are you suggesting that the powers to be at the university on the other side of Lake Michigan should look into this? Not to make Chicagoans (esp. Northwestern)mad but the coach that Notre Dame needs is a Wildcat with an Irish name. Fortunately Patrick bleeds purple and the only place I can see him going is south to Soldier Field.
