EFFINGHAM, Ill. -- An offensive line coach for Eastern Illinois was killed Saturday following a car crash that happened as he returned home from the team's playoff loss against Southern Illinois, a county coroner said.

Effingham County coroner Leigh Hammer confirmed early Sunday that Jeff Hoover, who was in his third season with Eastern Illinois, was killed. Two passengers were released from an Effingham hospital early Sunday, and several others were transferred to a hospital in Champaign for observation, Moser said.

Effingham is about 30 miles south of EIU's campus in Charleston.

"We are very saddened by the loss of Jeff Hoover," EIU athletic director Barbara Burke said. "He was a valuable member of our football staff and was looked up to by the young men in our football program. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Penny and their two children along with Eric Cash and his family in this difficult time."

Athletics spokesman Rich Moser says Hoover, strength coach Eric Cash and five family members were returning from the game when their Chevrolet Suburban swerved to miss a deer and rolled over. Moser says two passengers have been released from an Effingham hospital, and the other four transferred to a hospital in Champaign.

The tragedy marks the second death this month for EIU's athletics department. Assistant women's basketball coach Jackie Moore died Nov 4 after collapsing as she started a workout. Doctors said the 28-year-old's heart "just stopped," Moser said.

A memorial service for Hoover is planned, but no details were immediately available.

Hoover joined Eastern Illinois in 2007 after serving as the offensive coordinator at Portland State University. He also worked at Henderson State, Utah State, Claremont-McKenna College and his alma mater, UC Davis, and briefly coached the Arena Football League's Sacramento Attack.

Earlier in the day, Southern Illinois beat the Panthers 48-7 in the opening round of the FCS playoffs.

I would hint practising self-complacent selling, let me explicate. You can get a video professionally made for more or less $47.00 97.00 (30-60 seconds) showing your choice desk drawer slide. You can even demonstrate how good it is to destroy your challengers and blast it around over 100 internet video sites for as little as $5.00 per site to be done manualy! You can get keyword search done for you professionally, keying the keyword words that will get you a respectable amount of search volum, yes with lower competing pages. Thank you for this article! I've just observed a decisively big news portal about real marketing Try it!

This is why it is important to hire the right workers for your business. For business owners, it is extremely important to hire the right Virtual Personal Assistant.

A true part of FCS football was lost. He will be missed.

Why don't you two numb nuts get a life. Is that all you two can think of at a time like this. My God!

Perhaps you are kidding, but I believe that the coroner probably did not include that in the statement. It's just a case of poor sentence construction by the writer and oversight by the editor (if the Tribune even has editors anymore -- I think they have people who just come in and make changes/corrections to stories after reading comments such as yours ... Call it "public editing.")

I know this is out in the sticks, but I cannot believe the county coroner included the game score in the death statement.
