It didn't arrive with Dayne Crist's MRI results as an addendum. But the new Notre Dame depth chart did suggest that the sophomore backup quarterback will miss some time, as Evan Sharpley is now listed as the No. 2 signal-caller for the Irish.
Crist had an MRI Monday on his right knee, which he injured Saturday night against Washington State. Irish coach Charlie Weis said he was "cautiously optimistic" about the extent of the damage but planned on updating Crist's status at his press conference Tuesday.
Sharpley, a fifth-year senior with two career starts, returns to the backup role he played for some of 2007 and all of 2008.
Also unsurprisingly, senior Dan Wenger is listed as the starting right guard in place of Trevor Robinson, who Weis said would "miss some time" after a low-ankle sprain against Washington State.

The game at Pittsburgh is going to be tough. Wanny has them playing well (can't believe I just typed that!). It will be tough for them to get a BCS invite even if they win out but I would be happy with a New Year's Day bowl game. Would be a step in the right direction. If they could shore up the defense and somehow convince the big 3 (Floyd, Tate, Clausen) to stay another year a BCS game would be a reality next season.
The reason this is news Glitch is because Notre Dame is considered a CHICAGO AREA TEAM AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN or do you not read the local area paper's? If you take the closest Div. 1 college football teams from Chicago then Notre Dame is the 2nd closest to Chicago city limits other than Northwestern. I think maybe the state line if throwing you off. If the Tribune Co. is going to cover college football then then it would be a good idea to cover the most storied football program in the nation. Don't you think? Obviously not.
I agree it will be difficult but I think if ND wins out they will squeek into top 14 and will likely get a bid.
Remember the BCS gurus have skunked deserving teams before in the name of money.
Also USC is not going to win the PAC 10 and I would be shocked if any team with 2 conference losses would get a BCS. Penn State
IF ND wins out they will go but that is no small feet in that @pit and @standford will be tough games.
I just hope if they get a nod they go and win so everyone can shutup. If they win out this is a deserving team...they have a rotten pass defense but they have competed in spite of it.
I agree with Charlotte about the BCS chances. I like ND, but even running the table may not be enough -- nor would it be proper. And Glitch, how clueless are you? You should hang out with that "Chitown" guy and read your Bloomington and Peoria newspapers.
Sorry folks. Even with a win at Pitt BCS is not looking good for the Irish. TCU, Penn State and USC win out they will get the at-large bids along with the Ala/FLA loser. ND needs to get in the top 14 in the BCS and their other games will not give them any points
