Former NU star Herron OK after injury scare

Noah Herron, a former star running back for Northwestern who now plays for the United Football League's New York Sentinels, had a scary end to his season late last week.

Herron has played with the Sentinels since he was released by the Cleveland Browns early this fall. Friday night, in the third quarter of a losing game at the Las Vegas Locomotives, Herron fell to the ground at the line of scrimmage after a rushing attempt, according to the UFL.

Players from both teams "surrounded Herron and fell to one knee in an emotional display of concern and support," according to the UFL.

While being wheeled off on a stretcher, Herron raised one arm to cheering fans.

Herron was treated for head and neck injuries at Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas, and released later that night, according to a league spokeswoman. He was able to return home with the team, she said.
