Infielder Wilson Betemit, who spent part of last season with the White Sox before being demoted to Class AAA Charlotte, has signed a minor-league contract with the Kansas City Royals.

Betemit, 28, hit only .200 in 20 games with the Sox and didn't play in the majors after June 2. In 72 games at Charlotte in 2009, the switch-hitter batted .241 with 11 home runs and 49 RBI. He filed for free agency at the end of the season.

Betemit came to the Sox from the Yankees last winter as part of the trade that sent Nick Swisher to New York. He has a career batting average of .258 with a .324 on-base percentage.
