Milton Bradley? The rumors keep coming

By Dave van Dyck

It seems that everyone with a computer is helping Cubs general manager Jim Hendry find a new home for Milton Bradley, as rumors continue to fly around the Web.

But nothing concrete is expected to surface until next week's annual general managers meetings near O'Hare Airport. Remember that it was the GM meetings in California last November when Hendry went to dinner with free agent Bradley and promised his three years and $30 million.

So what's the latest?
Fox's Ken Rosenthal quotes a source as saying "you would be shocked" at the level of interest in Bradley, who has two years and $21 million remaining on his contract. He mentions the Giants, Padres, Rangers, Blue Jays and Mets, all of whom have been mentioned before because most have tradeable players with with bad contracts.

ESPN blogger Buster Olney (on ESPN Insider) ran a list of overpaid players who might interest the Cubs, many of whome have been mentioned like Aaron Rowand and Barry Zito. But he also mentions pitchers like Oliver Perez, Dontrelle Willis and Derek Lowe.

Two interesting names: Tampa Bay's Pat Burrell and the Angels' Gary Matthews Jr., who has two years and $23 million left while staring at limited playing time.

Next week should produce some fascinating tinder for the Hot Stove League as all general managers meet in one place. The Cubs already have hinted they will not eat all or most of Bradley's contract, so expect Monopoly-type-money names to be thrown around.

THE CUBS will find a home for MILTON BRADLEY, cause most every team has their own albatross who is either OVERPAID or UNDERPERFORMING or BOTH !!! Someone suggested that we deal with the BLUE JAYS for WELLS. You might want to rethink that position, cause this cat has a long term contract and is owed $98 mill. currently !!! Last thing we need is ANOTHER SORIANO !!! Then I read where perhaps the RAYS might be ready to package BURRELL and IWAMURA to the CUBS for BRADLEY plus another, and since P.B. has killed the CUBS in the past with his bat, maybe now he can repeat while in a CUB jersey. The bottom line is that there are plenty of decent deals which will be available. BOBBY ABREU might be NOW spoken for, but JIM HENDRY had better NOT hold his breathe, if he thinks I'm gonna stop begging for him to acquire ADAM DUNN !!!

How about Soriano and Bradley for Vernon Wells. Financially, it's just about a wash.

i dont care what we do, just get rid of the fool! He's disrespectful, abnoxious, insulting, rude, and brings a horrible attitude to the clubhouse. He has a horrible attitude toward his teammates, fans, and the city of Chicago. He may not be the worst player in baseball, but he certainly isnt anywhere where we need him to be. His attitude makes him even worse of a player. Just get rid of him! PLEASE!

GARY MATTHEWS JR?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? ARE YOU NUTS?

May want to edit your articles before posting...several errors included. Just a heads up, man.

a) Matsui is a full time DH now and there is a reason for that. b) Matsui's contract is up now so once he files for free agency the Yankees will no longer be in control of him. c) The Yankees are a smart enough team to realize that Milton Bradley would last no more than 6 seconds playing under the media and fan scrutiny of New York City.

How about Milton Bradley to the New York Yankees for Hideki Matsui? Just think, this can be a win-win for the Cubs as it would help Koske hit the ball better, and will give us a lefty bat who can provide plenty of offense, that is if the Yankees decide to let him go. He would be a great addition to this ballclub

Rocket man you are right about players being greedy, but so are 95% of humans are that way. At lest they have a talent that less than 1% of people have. alot of people are getting rich off other people back ( like the owners) I think it sucks that the prices to game keep going up i can afford to go less every year. Thats great that you don't go to games anymore, but if people want to go to the game and thats how they chose to spend there extra money it up to them.I bet there things you still buy that help keep some fat cat rich.

Some of those trades would be pretty good. It would be good for Bradley to go to a city where the fans expect him to put up Milton Bradley numbers rather than Derek Lee numbers.

Bradley is a better player than all of them, and by far for most of them. Screw "clubhouse" guys; if the Cubs were a winning team, this Bradley fiasco would be nowhere as bad. Aaron Rowand is average defensively (don't mistake running into walls for actually good defense; his range is slightly below average and declinig, same with his arm) and below average defensively. He's essentially Reed Johnson, who is another player Hendry should avoid throwing money at when you have Sam Fuld with the same skillset but is younger and cheaper.

I like the idea of Aaron Rowand....A great club house guy who can still play.

Trade the bum for a couple bags of bats. I totally agree that baseball has become a money hungry sport. Owners, players, and the root of the evil: Agents. I wish people would just stop going to the games and watch baseball fold up in bankrupcy in a New York minute. I personally am done going to games and done watching games until something changes. I wish others would do the same.

Looks like there are more than willing teams ready to trade for Milton Bradley which proves EVERYONE has overpriced ballplayers they are stuck with and want to be rid of. Inflation is a major problem in MLB. Too much money for so little production. That's baseball these days. A trade for Milton Bradley would bring back another overinflated salary in trade but, hopefully, not another inflated ego.

Quick take willis or rowand. I'll take a disappointing player who isn't crazy over one who is.

One more time I give you the anti Milton Bradley. If someone knows Milton have him look this over a few times. If all he does is laugh it's hopeless. What it should do is make you tear up a bit. To think, a ball player making $70K a year saying "what more could I ask for"

i agree derek lowe is the only one worth anything on that list. need a fifth quality starter and idk where Z's head is atm. like i said on my other post unless they can figure out how to make bradley hit again trade him for a bag of chips.

The point of trading Milton Bradley is to get rid of him. You are not going to get anything attractive in return, certainly not someone that will make you clear your October schedule so you can watch the playoffs. Then again, one team's trash is another team's treasure. The Dodgers were through with Karros and Grudzielanek and they didn't seem that attractive coming over for Todd Hundley, but they both ended up playing a big roll in the Cubs playoff run in 2003. So whomever we get for Bradley, let's hope they can fit in well enough in 2010 just like Karros and Grudzielanek managed to fit in well in 2003.

The only name on that list worth a darn is Derek Lowe. I would definitely stay away from Matthews Jr. He is terrible and has always been terrible. He is just stealing from the Angels now; its sick - same goes for Zito.

The Gary Matthews Jr. option might be a good one. He's an older guy with a bad contract but he's still solid defensively in center field and is not nearly the clubhouse problem that Bradley is. That leaves Soriano in left and Fukudome in right but if you have to take a bad contarct to unload Bradley, this fits better than Pat Burrell or Vernon Wells.

Hendry, get anything you can for Bradley. Can't have him back on the Cubs next year. 2 double A players better than having that cancer on the team. Eat as much salary as you have to but he can;t be a Cub!

None of the potential trades would yield a player with anything like Bradley's upside. It's too bad the Cubs couldn't have intervened earlier to keep Bradley from becoming a P.R. disaster. If the only problems were his 2009 lack of power and his injury history, he'd still be worth keeping. But given what was said last year, keeping him for 2010 would create more of a media circus than the Cubs can probably accept.

Please ship Bradley the clown out of town, he's nothing but a cancer, no wonder Dusty didnt want this head case back in the day, anyone is better than Bradley.

I rather keep Bradley then get any of the players mentioned in this article. Gary Matthew Jr.? No way!
