What is it with Northwestern and close games? On second thought, do we even need an explanation?

The Wildcats improved to 16-5 in games decided by eight points or less under coach Pat Fitzgerald after their thrilling 33-31 victory over No. 16 Wisconsin on Saturday.

Northwestern, which might have played its way up to the Jan. 1 Outback Bowl, forced a fumble with 1:44 to play and then stopped the Badgers on their final drive. Jordan Mabin intercepted Scott Tolzien to effectively end the game.

Northwestern fans flooded the field for a rendition of "Go U Northwestern" at midfield.

NU quarterback Mike Kafka had another big game, completing 26-of-41 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns.

You are right, people should listen to what you are saying because are absolutely right. :-D

Great game to go to! Wow... I don't know how many upsets it will take for Northwestern before the visiting teams (and whoever makes the top 25 list) to be taken seriously. Kafka is probably the best QB in the Big 10, and if our defensive backfield wasn't completely terrible, then we would be even better! (and the entire team being able to read and write is a plus...) Hope being in the top 25 was fun while it lasted Wisconsin!

I've read comments in stories on NU in the last week that show resentment for the academic slant of the university. A pity intellect is resented in the U.S. of A. Used to be we looked up to people who took advantage of their intelligence. No more. That could explain the popularity of Fox News, George W. Bush and Sarah Palin. Not exactly the brightest bulbs in the shop window.

Nonetheless, NU is building successful hoops & football programs despite their academic standards. Go Wildcats. We know your athletes will be the supervisors for players from other Big Ten schools. Remember to be magnanimous.

Shame on us Badger fans. We fell short of filling Ryan Field. From the looks of the parking lots, I thought for sure the game would be a sellout, all dress in red. It is sad when an opponent brings 80 percent of the crowd. The east stands was a sea of red, which just shows Wisconsin fans are the best in the Big ten. NU fans, good luck getting tickets for the game in Madison next year. By the way, congrats on a good win. You deserved it. NU outplayed Wis.

Sure did not look like only 15 fans at the Northwestern game!

How weak is it that this paper runs a big story about crappy Notre Dame and relies on this five paragraph weakling from Teddy (he clearly wrote it off a DVR replay of the game) about a solid Northwestern program that goes 8-4 and is on its way to another good bowl game? And Teddy went to Northwestern! C'mon guys, give NU some love. Notre Dame is so 1980's.

ohng, I know you said you weren't going to go there, but could you please elaborate? I just can not figure out what your joke means.

Got to go to the game and it was actually pretty packed(for NW) and it was about 50:50 NW:Wisc. Wildcats fans showed up for this one. Fun game all around.

The QB's name is Kafka? I'm not even going to go there.

RE: Who Cares

So I guess you are a Notre Dame fan?

Outstanding game for any fan and a great performance by the Cats. Held Clay to 99 yards and outgained the Badgers by 100 yards. 17 wins in 2 years now for the "MildCats"

You got love this team! And they can all read and write well

Must be exciting for the 15 fans of the Northwestern football program.
