Northwestern moves up the bowl ladder

Northwestern football fans might want to stock up on sunscreen. After beating Illinois on Saturday, their three most likely bowl destinations are Orlando (Champs Sports), San Antonio (Alamo) and Tempe (Insight).

Other Saturday results helped their cause: Penn State's victory over Indiana and Iowa's close loss at Ohio State increased the chances that the Big Ten will get two teams in the BCS. If the conference does, most teams would move up one bowl slot. USC's loss to Stanford also gives that second Big Ten team a boost.

The latest BCS standings will be revealed tonight on Fox after its second NFL game. Expected time is between 6-6:30.

The key is where Penn State, Iowa and Wisconsin are in the standings. To be eligible as a BCS at-large selection, that team must be in the top 14 in the final BCS standings, which will be announced three weeks from today.
