SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Not all the injury news was good for Notre Dame: Backup quarterback Dayne Crist has a torn ACL and is out for the season and beyond.
Crist injured the knee on a scramble late against Washington State and had an MRI on Monday to reveal the extent of the injury.
"Dayne does have a torn ACL," Irish coach Charlie Weis said Tuesday. "He's going to get operated on Friday. He'll be out four to six months. That's how long the recovery is. Fortunately, there's not a lot of other things wrong. But (surgery) needs to be done, and that's going to be done Friday."
Fifth-year senior Evan Sharpley becomes the No. 2 quarterback behind Jimmy Clausen, and sophomore receiver John Goodman -- who played quarterback in high school -- starts practicing Tuesday for an emergency quarterback role.
