Notre Dame players will vote this afternoon on whether they want to play in a bowl game while waiting for word on the fate of coach Charlie Weis.
Athletic director Jack Swarbrick has said he will consider the players' wishes in deciding on a bowl trip for the Irish, who finished a disappointing season with a 6-6 record.
Weis was not in his office early today, though there were no announcements about whether he willl return or be dismissed. Swarbrick could make that call as early as today.

SBNation.com is reporting the Irish players voted against accepting any bowl bid. Not many options were available, and none of them looked good (enough) for ND: Detroit (Motor City/Pizza Bowl) or Mobile (GMAC) against a MAC team, maybe the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise against U. of Idaho or the Eagle Bank Bowl in DC against Marshall or a MAC team. As to the comment about good teams sitting home for the holidays - every 7-win team will get a bowl game this year.
Would someone explain how this happens. Don't teams get invited to bowl games based on a winning record. What player is going to vote against playing in a bowl game.

And how many other 6-6 teams are likely to receive bowl invitations? Far better teams will be sitting home over the holidays, yet lousy ND teams still get to play.
