Jay Cutler looks up at the referee after being hit during the first quarter Thursday. (Jose M. Osorio/Tribune)
If Jay Cutler thought he was feeling the heat from the San Francisco 49ers' pass rush, wait until he sees what the national media has in store for him. After his five-pick performance on national TV on Thursday night, columnists from coast to coast can be expected to blitz the beleaguered Bears quarterback from all angles.
First up is Jeff Schultz of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, who tees off on Cutler with perhaps the unkindest comparison possible: Schultz likens him to former Falcons and Illinois quarterback Jeff George.
Among the harshest comments:
*"If you want to know why the Chicago Bears will never win anything with Jay Cutler -- and why Jay Cutler will never win anything that requires leadership, forethought or something larger than a walnut between his ears -- it was on display Thursday night."
*"Cutler should apologize to the defense, the offense, the coaches, the fans and the guy flipping burgers at Billy Goat Tavern, then work his way up and down every "L" train in the city of Chicago and beg for forgiveness."
*"This dude is a disaster. I mean, disaster on the Jeff George scale of disasters."
Hall of Fame quarterback Fran Tarkenton also roughed the Bears' passer, telling "The Waddle and Silvy Show" on WMVP-AM (1000): "I really question whether he can play. Quarterbacks need to make their team better. If it's a bad team, they can even make a bad team better.
"Somebody may say even Peyton Manning couldn't help the Bears. Yes, he could. Tom Brady could, too. They might not get to the playoffs or they may not win the championship, but they would make that team better. Those wide receivers who are struggling would be better because they would make them better.
"I don't know anything about Jay Cutler, but I watched him last night and he was God-awful."

The disadvantage of wired door chimes is that installation could be difficult for the average person. Unless you know how to work with electric wires wireless door chimes are the way to go. And you don't have to tear your walls apart to install a wireless door chime. http://www.doorchimeshq.com
Good post mate!! Keep 'em flowing!
I've seen some good Posts!
Bear Fan is Right! We need a lot MORE around JC, this process isn't going to happen as quickly as most would like... We have a Terrible Coaching Staff minus Special Teams... An inept GM and President, which could make the process even longer. I'm pulling the company line " Jay is our QB" I've seen what he can do, and if our Offense was like NE or Indy's and JC could improvise with multiple plays, he would Really light things up, but Ron Turner can't even think 2 plays ahead let alone how to Coach and put his players in position... Lovie this comes to you too, Jerry too, Phillips your the ring leader
There is a big difference between Cutler and Hadl who was 34 and past his prime. Cutler wont hit his prime for 4-6 years
After living with the brutal and long lasting effects of the Jon Hadl trade on the Packers- I welcome Bears fans into your own long, long winter.
BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR. LOL...............................................................................................................................................................HA..............................................HA..................................................HA.................................................YES............................................................................5 REDZONE...................................................................................................................................WOW...............................................................................OH MY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JAY DOESN'T EVEN ACT IF HE CARES...WHAT A JERK.
GOD HELP US......................................CUTLER IS AS DUMB AS A ROCK.
FIRST JAY CLASSLESS GOT MIKE SHANAHAN FIRED...NOW HOW MANY MORE...CHICAGO WILL FIND OUT WHAT COLORADO ALREADY KNOWS...ENJOY....LUV JC (NOT JESUS CHRIST) LIKE HE THINKS!
But like so many who play the position, Cutler's biggest strength also can be his biggest weakness. He sees no window too tiny to squeeze the ball through, no defensive back quick enough to break on one of his tight spirals in time to pick it off. Too often Cutler's head writes checks his arm can't cash. !!!!!!!
Jay is very accurate, his perfect spirals to the other team as as pretty as ive ever seen !!
Keep throwin it Jay... the red ZONE has bome your DEAD ZONE !!
Bronco Loving Mamma your right but its a two way street. They could listen to offers and he has every right to seek employment elsewhere
Glenn in Florida I guess will see in 5 years if you know the future do you have any stock tips
And Grand Prize your a freaken moron
Got news for you "Bear Fan". Something all of us need to remember and nut just pouty, crybaby QB's. NO ONE IS INEXPENDABLE. It's a fact of life. It's a business and Josh McDaniels had every right to "listen" to any deal offered before him. The Broncos did nothing wrong by listening to any offer put in front of them. Cutler is truly one of the most expendable players in the league and Bear fans are learning this the hard way.
Maybe Bear's fans can't count, but Cutler has played pro ball for more than 9 games. Bear's fans are cutting Cutler so much slack for his poor play it truly amazes me. When Orton or Grossman played bad everyone wanted to run them out of town on a rail. I've said this since the trade, Cutler is no where near the guy Bear's fans think he is. Throughout his college & pro career so far, he has choked when his team really needed him to come through. Check out Denver's collapse last year. As for Chicago being in better shape than the Bronco's in five years that is just foolishness. Denver gets 8 picks in the 1st two rounds in the next two years and since they are playing well this year, what do you think they will be like if the draft picks turn out well. Cutler could not have been in a better place to play in Denver with the offensive talent that Denver had last year & this year. Plus if Cutler couldn't handle the new coach looking at a different QB in Denver how is going to handle the next two or three losing seasons Chicago will be going through without any top draft picks or willingness to spend enough money to bring in a good coach or great wide receiver. The people that are going to be doing the crying for the forseeable future are the Bear's fans.
I see that Chicago is learning about the Jay Cutler we came to know.
Yeah, Denver went through the first stages of denial with the realization that Jay Cutler was a mirage. Hey, he's an all-pro quarterback. He has a strong arm. It's not his fault. He needs better team players around him. The defense is the reason we are losing games.
We also suffered from front office delusion syndrome . . . its the front office. The play calling is bad. We need better coaches. We need people who know how to play the game.
But in the end we finally realized . . . the QB isn't scoring from the red zone. There are too many interceptions in critical game settings. The opposition is getting better field position. Regardless of what he says, when you throw that many interceptions it is the fault of the QB. The football leaves his hand.
Welcome to the realization club, Chicago!
Cutler's critics are full of it. The last line in this story says it all ... "I don't know anything about Jay Cutler, but I watched him last night and he was God-awful." Yeah he was god awful last night. He threw five interceptions genius. Did you see the four games he won for this team earlier in the season? Do you realize if we had Kyle or Rex we'd be 0-9 right now? Cutler is not only the least of our worries, but the only sign of hope. Name one other player on this team you'd keep before him? Hester? Forte? Maynard? No way pal. Cutler's our best player and he's trying. He cares enough to fail, not just collect a paycheck like some of the other bums we have.
GIVE JAY A CHANCE !!!!!!! WE HAD REX GROOSMAN WHO LED THE THE BEARS TO THE SUPER BOWL A FEW YEARS AGO !!!
AND WE RUN HIM OUT OF TOWN.
ONE SEASON DOES NOT MAKE A QUARTERBACK !!!
ALSO THE BEARS WERE ABOUT TO MOVE AND GROOVE UNTIL THAT DAMN BYE WEEK !!
GIVE JAY A BREAK !!!!
Cutler is Brett favre. Have patience. I wish he was more coachable because we would still have him. He has no real receivers to speak of. I like Orton's decision making but he is a sitting duck. Jay would throw for 4000 yards in McDaniels system. Too bad cooler heads couldn't have prevailed. Until Denver builds a more powerful offensive line the elite teams will continue to overpower the broncos. Hopefully Chicago will a Marshall and a Royal for Jay to play with. Till then it will be up and down for you guys. Good Luck.
Bronco loving mama and the rest of you Denver fans that call Cutler a baby,
Put yourself in his shoes. What if you were the #1 employee at your job like Cutler was as an all-pro QB for Denver.
And your boss went behind your back to bring in someone from another organization to replace you. Like JM did with Cassel.
Would you be pissed? Would you feel betrayed by your employer? Would you feel that after giving it your all and succeeding as an all-star you had a right to be angry at your boss?
Cutler deal is no different. He had every reason to be pissed and want to leave.
I wouldnt want to be working for an organization like that would you??
But you sit there and call him pouty and a baby. I guarantee that if it happened to you (which based on your postings I am certain you have been unemployed for years)you would have disrupted your company and felt betrayed and pouted and left feeling used.
But if JC feels that way he has betrayed the Denver organization and is a bad guy.
hahahah It's hilarious how many IDIOTS are talking so much junk about Cutler and bringing up Orton and McDaniels. I guarantee you these are the same morons who after the Bears beat the Broncos in the preseason were booing Orton and calling McDaniels an idiot who traded away their best player.
Now, just 2 months later, these morons still are little know-it-alls and now they claim that Cutler sucks and McDaniels knew what he was doing all along and bla bla bla.
Look, you twits, only LOSERS who don't know anything about football start jumping to conclusions after 9 games. Check back with me in 9 years, and then I'll listen to your opinions about who got the better of the Cutler trade.
Anybody who knows ANYTHING about football (I guess that rules out SI's Peter King) knew the Bears weren't ready to conted this year. Too many holes. But guess what? We are set at the QB position for years to come, and that is the hardest position to fill.
Cutler is tough, smart, mobile, accurate, big, and HE IS THE GUY. I've been calling for Lovie Smith and his crew to be gone for 5 years now, even during the Super Bowl year. Again, people who KNOW football aren't fooled by temporary success/failure, and Lovie's success that Super Bowl season was temporary just like Cutler's failure is now.
Get some REAL coaches in here who actually know football strategy - Gruden, Shanahan, Cowher, Holmgren? - and watch Cutler blossom.
And I'll be standing here 5 years from now saying I TOLD YOU SO.
Bronco Loving Mama,
Lets see, Cutler is learning a new offense and in his 3rd game against Seattle had the highest QB rating of any visiting QB in qwest fields 12 year history
First Bear QB to have 3 straight games with a rating over 100. Oh yeah that was his 2nd 3rd and 4th game as a Bear and oh yeah he did it with no offensive line/running for his life/no running game and wide outs that dont know their routes!!! oh and an offensive coordinator that said himself he needs to put JC in a better position to succeed.
Pro bowl QB last year in Denver who threw for over 4600 fricken yards oh my my he is pouty and a bad bad selfish player
Do you think anybody in Chicago gives a rats behind over whether hes a snotty guy or not. You live in a dream world happy to get rid of a QB who made the pro bowl last year and was 17-1 as a starter for Denver when the defense gave up 20 points or less. The only loss a fluke ot loss to the pack
If Cutler throws for 300 yards for two straight games and we win Chicago will hail him the hero of heros
I have lived here and a die hard chicago fan for 45 years I have seen Fans turn on Jordon when he wore #45 and lost to the Orlando Magic in the playoffs and he is the greatest athelete of the 20th century. So dont tell me about chicago fans I know them better than your dumb ass
Granted he sucked yesterday big deal, you think the Bears are going to the SB if they would have won yesterday. We have so many problems and now that we have a QB they are even more magnified. We were blaming Orton last year/Rex the year before/and 25 other QB's the years before that
Angelo cant pick anyways so its a good thing we gave up the picks
My point is Bear fans give JC a lot more leeway than any other QB in recent Bear history. Rex never had 5 picks and the reason we do is because we know he is super talented and after his first 4000 yd passing season do you think anyone will say
Well 4000 is ok but he is snooty and pouty so we dont like him
I have a relative in Denver and he's an idiot too
Of course we get excited when Cutler has a bad day.
a)He's a jerk.
b)We wasted a first round draft pick on someone who absolutely cannot put the ball in the end zone.
c)And the worse he does, the higher we get to pick in next year's draft.
It's understandable that the Bears jumped the gun by looking at his Pro-Bowl status and his strong arm. But now that you see what he's made of, you reward him with a long-term contract?
Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha. Oh - You're "thrilled" with Cutler? Speak for yourself idiot. Just a glance at the comments and the Chicago editorials today would suggest you live in a world of your own. We don't miss Jay-Jay because no matte how "good" he is, and I'll grant you this - he is, at times, brilliant, NOBODY likes an attitude like he exhibited here in Denver when poor little Jay-boy got his wittle feewings huwt!!!!!!!!!! It simply does not speak well of him and regardless of talent it's "Hit the Road you little punk". That's human nature. Josh saw this and the insight to try and move him. I'm only here because of all the gloating "some" of you Bears fans did and continue to do over the QB deal. Face it. Orton is not that good and Cutler may well never live up to his potential. That's what we both have to live with.
Hey Bronco Loving Mama and the rest of the Denver fans who get so excited when Cutler has a bad day.
First off get a life.
Second it amazes me how you all write into the chicago media taunting Bear fans. It is obvious that you are still hurting for losing Cutler or you would not waste your time writing us.
When Orton had 3 picks last week i went to the Denver Post and saw very few Bear fans gloating. First because we wish Orton well and second we are not sooooo upset that we lost him.
We are still thrilled with Cutler who other than those 3 games in which he had 11 picks has played pretty good with no protection green wide outs and questionable play calling
But go ahead keep writing in and telling us how screwed we are. It just shows how upset you still are that he is no longer in Denver.
If you were happy about the trade you would be like most Bear fans and be over it already
Lets talk in 3 years and see who got the best of the deal
Trust me Denver will not be winning a superbowl anytime soon
Cerebrally challenged? Everyone in this country was calling McDaniels and idiot for wanting to dump Cutler, especially for Cassel, an unproven back-up who had a so-so season filling in for Brady. You're an idiot if you think McDaniels is anything more than a little brat
I was at the game last night and what the fans didn't see was receiver after receiver (except Olsen) quitting on their routes or falling down and a running back who appears to slow to hit the whole not to mention one of the worst offensive game plans ever invented! Ron Turner needs to go back to San Jose State...second thought ship him to Gavilan College, at least the garlic in Gilroy can cover up the smell of his offense.
I'm going to try to explain this to the cerebrally challenged Chicago Bears fans again. Listen up! You might learn something. Josh McDaniels KNEW Cutler was a ticking time bomb and that's why he tried to get Cassel. You really think McDaniels is that stupid to let go of a "Franchise QB"? I don't think so. Real coaches spot things the rest of us can't. However, Cutler's shortcomings are becomeing so embarrassingly obvious a middle schooler can tell he's nothing but an over-rated, pouting, immature, overpaid, arrogant punk who makes enemies quickly wherever he goes. Bears fans are learning this the hard way. Cutler is already seething beyond belief because he can't take any criticism without going to a CAT 5. I wish you luck Bears fans - maybe Jim McMahon will make a comeback!
Hey THEMACMAMBA, what world do you live in? Chicago is ALL OVER Cutler. While you make some good points, you are way off with us "walking on egg shells" around Cutler. That's what Denver did. Are you reading the same article? I see eggs getting smashed by the ton. Oh, and buddy... it's The CITY of CHICAGO. Not Town of. No disrespect, but this ain't no Denver Cow-Town. We have a real skyline, a real public transportation system, real food, and you never have to call a cab, you hail a cab in a CITY, you call a cab in a Cow-Town.
Want to help Jay Cutler get over his problems. Here is a solution that everyone forgets.
FIRE BEARS OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR RON TURNER!
Under the 5 years as offensive coordinator of the Bears the Bears offense has been no higher than 15th place.
Ron Turner is the reason the Bears offense is bad thus making the entire team bad. You can't depend on defense to be the main contributors of every single NFL game. The Bears defense has been the mainstay of the Bears strength for 5 years in a row. That is unfair to all the sudden pigeonhole Cutler and blame him for the Bears offensive woes.
Cutler is only executing the plays Offensive Coordinator Ron Turner calls. It is Ron Turner's fault for not putting Cutler in position to be successful.
The Broncs are already starting to be exposed for what they are and McDaniels is no genius coach. I hope Orton does well there but the Broncos are not an elite team. THey're benefiting from a soft schedule and a ton of good luck
Cutler's biggest mistake was pouting and demanding a trade from Denver in the first place. He could have had some excellent coaching and training from McDaniels and staff...who did manage to help develop talent with Brady and Cassel and others. I personally think he got uptight and scared at the thought of working under McDaniel's system... and ditched with excuses. Seems like most leader-type QBacks with great ability would have jumped at the chance to learn from McDaniels! No, Cutler is very rough around the edges... good arm, but lacks the decision-making and judgement to do something with it. Cutler is a BIG part of the Bears' problem... not all of it, but a big part. He is NOT leading now, and seems like he won't get the proper coaching he really needs.
Jay Cutler was sold as is No warranty, No refund, No exchanges! Thank you for your business!
How stupid are fans and people period? Peyton Manning threw 100 int's in his 1st 5 years and people said he'll never win in the playoffs or a superbowl. John Elway threw 77 int's his 1st 5 years, and everybody knows what people said about him. He'll never win, he's a loser etc. But we all know how it turned out for them. It's still early in Cutler's career. He can still learn and get better with BETTER coaching and BETTER players on the team.
jerry angelo should be apologizing. then they should can him. i would start hanie next game. i never saw anything like last night.
what happened to all the Chicago fans saying they were going to the Super bowl now, and that we have all the weapons we need?! I also find it interesting that everyone is quick to blame all of the problems in Chicago on everyone BUT Cutler. Wake up! he forced throws in Denver, and is forcing them here in Chicago. 5 int's is not a system problem, it is not a WR problem, it is a QB problem. In his interviews, he NEVER says My fault, or I lost the game, like a good leader should, he always says "the offense" let the team down. I realize you are a team, but grow a couple, and say it like it is. I heard on person say they need to tell him to stop throwing so much....really? you try teling this guy anything and he is ready to jump on the next plane out of town. You see how McDaniels shouts at Orton, and Orton responds....He wants to be coached. Jay would walk off the field...or back on to it and throw int's if you really tried coaching him. The owner even said you have to be careful in the way you approach Jay, he is a firey guy. The whole Chicago town and organization walks around on egg shells for this guy.
Wow is it over for the franchise QB..hey I heard somewhere that Bobby Douglas is looking for a come back..lol...You keep jay we don't want him back A LOSER ON EVERY LEVEL HE PLAYS ON>>>>>bears fan living in Denver..hell he has made the Boncos org. look like the smartest group in sports..who would a thunk it....real I am a bears fan for over 50+ yrs..& we would like to say sorry about jay..said it before 4500 yards passing with the fews TD in history...LOSER>>>>
Cutler is an average QB. He was part of system in denver, which is why another average QB is doing decent there now. The problem isn't Cutler. The problem is the bears. Here are their problems:
Front office, coaching, defense, offense, special teams, players, scheme.
I think that about covers it, any 6 year old kid can tell you this.
The complete and total fluke of the worst 13-3 team in the history of the NFL that went to the SB in 2006 gave all the fans a cruel sense of expectation of a team that was good. All it was, was an anomoly and a complete fluke of luck.
Can we nullify the Orton trade and get him back, as well as all the top draft picks?
Or, if not, is Rex Grossman still available?
Jay Cutler = Cade McNown.
Here's the most telling stat...Jay Cutler had 18 INTs last season, 4 in the red zone. After half a season he's doubled those numbers. Clearly it's not all on him.
I'm not blaming Cutler. I heard someone keyed his car and ripped a "I heart Denver" bumper sticker off of it. I think he just snapped.
Wow yay, some schmuck in Atlanta who hasnt seen a Bears game this year decided to chime in. Here's an idea, shut up.
I don't think it's right to blame only Culter... His offense it's doing their job, yeah he made some poor choices but its just not all him. It's become extremely pain to watch these games
One of the worst trades in the history of the NFL and I was saying the same thing when it went down and I can prove it.
The Bears won't be contenders again for at least 5 years.
I've been saying it for weeks that this guy is the second-coming of Jeff George. What a huge mistake the Bears made and they won't be smart enough to dump him like the Falcons did with idiot George. I'm glad this guy's article cam eout and solidified my argument. Trade him to Miami immediately.
Jay went from a team that had 6 guys that could catch his passes on a regular basis to a team that has maybe 1 guy (TE.)
It really is a shame, 'cause the Broncos would be legit contenders if they still had Cutler. Maybe I'm crazy, but that is my take.
