Rangers won't rule out Milton Bradley

By Phil Rogers

Milton Bradley had a great relationship with Texas manager Ron Washington. The Rangers, who have no money to spend, are losing free agent outfielder Marlon Byrd and need someone to replace him?

Could it be a Bradley redux? The guess here is no but there is some interesting reading on that subject here.

Adam Dunn?

baseball god please turn in you fan card as you leave... The only no brainer here is you.

I wouldn't say that Adam Dunn was a no-brainer. His RBI total is low for a guy who hits that many homers. Plus he strikes out a ton. Plus he's been pretty much a .250 hitter for the past few seasons. Plus having him on the Cubs would have meant that we would have the worst fielding corner outfielders in baseball. I think Bobby Abreu would have been the best choice, with Raul Ibanez a close second.

Jim Hendry is just as much to blame particularly when could have signed ADAM DUNN WHO WANTED TO COME HERE. 2009 STATS
Avg .267 HR 38 RBI 105 ALSO CAN BE PLAY (NOT VERY WELL) RIGHT FIELD AND 1ST BASE.....THIS WAS A NO BRAINER

Brad, right on. Rogers should retire.

How about keeping Bradley for one more season and keep the boo birds and racist out of wrigley field.

Rogers is also the one who said that Zambrano should DH in the World Series WHEN the Cubs made it there in 2008. He wrote that in August. Then this year he said the DH should be in the National League because Zambrano hurt himself hitting.

He also has more typos in his articles than a professional writer should.

I think Wood only has one year left on his contract with the Indians. Plus Cleveland is trying to dump payroll, which is why they traded Sabathia, Lee, DeRosa, and Martinez over the past two seasons. They also received prospects for all of those players, so I doubt they would want Milton Bradley in return. Plus they've been through the Milton Bradley experience before, so I would think they would know better.

Of course, Milton Bradley had a good season with the Rangers in 2008, so maybe they would be willing to risk it. They could take him, give us a mid-level prospect in return, and we would eat most of his salary. Then we could start Sam Fuld in center and bat him leadoff in 2010. Fuld will be making the major league minimum, so it won't matter as much that we are still paying most of Bradley's salary. We could also then bring back Reed Johnson to back up Fuld and maybe even hold on to Fox and Hoffpauir too. Also that way we won't be locked in with another bad contract so when Bradley and Fukudome come off the books after the 2011 season we could have some flexibility in the outfield.

To me an intriguing trade of Bradley would be to Cleveland for Kerry Wood. They hardly need a closer of his quality (and he really did not have a great year in Cleveland) and are stuck with quite a bit of salary for two years. They might be willing to trade him for some offense and I think the Cubs (and fans) would love to see him back in Chicago.

This really isn't "news" as much as it is Phil Rogers posting a wild rumor he found on another blog. Seems like Hardball would be the place for this. Not that anything Rogers EVER writes actually qualifies as news, seeing as this is the genius who came up with that utterly ridiculous +1/-1 system of grading a teams' off-season a few years ago.
