WSCR-AM 670 reports: The Bears have reached out to an intermediary for former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher to gauge whether he would have any interest in coming to Chicago should the team decide to fire Lovie Smith, according to Hub Arkush, publisher of Pro Football Weekly and an analyst for the radio station
The Bears have denied a previous report by Arkush that someone in the organization above general manager Jerry Angelo was making inquiries regarding possible changes in the team's leadership.
"The Bears deny this report but my sources, who are impeccable, insist that it's true: They have reached out to an intermediary for Bill Cowher to try to find out what it would take to get him, if he would be interested, what he would want in terms of staff, money, etc.," Arkush reported on the station Sunday.

if you can get cowher fine....but there are more serious issues....the Offensive line is a joke , and The Bears are HORRIBLE at drafting/developing offensive lineman. The defensive line is alomst as big a joke as the offensive. No pressure and can not stop the run. Is it coaching ? Is it talent evaluation? Mr Angelo has just as much to do with this freefall as Lovie.
You absolutely must go get a new coach for these reasons.
You don't have a First or Second round pick for the next two years. The Bears will have to develop the talent they have.
Lovie has already shown that he cannot build a decent passing offense or even scheme to take advantage of the opponents weaknesses.
He is too stubborn to run that cover two defense even thought he doesn't have the talent to make it work.
A real coach can make this bears team we have right now a playoff team.
ABSOLUTELY GO GET COWER! HE IS THE CLOSEST THING TO THE LAST HEAD COACH TO WIN A SB IN CHICAGO. LOVIE DOES NOT HAVE THE ABILITY OR TEMPERAMENT TO COACH THE BEARS. THE BEARS NEED A TOUGH, SIDELINE PROWLING HEAD COACH WHO WILL GET IN THE FACE OF THE CURRENT NON-PERFORMING OL AND DL. GO GET COWER TODAY.........
too me, my opinion is this, the chicago bears have to improve with a good coaching staff, players, that is good players, i've had enough of what's going on already.
Dissent within a fan base is certainly not grounds to leave the team. Making the cutler deal was controversial and always had the potential to be a boom or bust. Problem is, stats and history would suggest the latter. It's OK for some of us to disagree and to be critical of a move that most likely has cost this team any chance at real success for a number of years. If your OK with mediocrity or less, then there is no need to comment as you certainly must be happy. Some of us are NOT and we will not be joining the fan base of another team because of it, that is a task better suited for those who just blindly accept a product based on its brand, not its performance.
Your all a bunch of idiots when you say get rid of Urlacher he's the heart of the defense and it shows how badly he is missed every game watched this season with blown coverages or missed tackles. Also Briggs plays better with Urlacher in. Also getting rid of Tino why? When he plays he's a tackling machine and a hitter. Also Forte was a stud last year and everyone says get rid of him. Well if the Bears had a line that could block. Two things would happen Forte would be having a better season and Cutler might have time to look for receivers instead of running for his life. Why try running when you avg 2 yards a carry? I can't stand have of you so called Bears fans. MORONS go jump on the Vikings band wagon.
Mike Ditka as a personnel man? The same guy who traded an entire draft for Rickey Williams? No. A no-nonsense coach he might be, but an evaluator of talent and team chemistry he is NOT.
QUIT blaming the coaches for everything, hold the players accountable. Sure, it would be nice to have an accomplished coach with a proven system and methodology, but players are more important, players that match your style and system. Jay Cutler is NOT one of those players. We blew it! Face it and deal with it.
Go get him!! Then hire Charlie Weis as OC. After that go get Mike Ditka to fill Jerry Angelo's spot. Then you'd have a recipe for Chicago championship football. I'm tired of the soft coaching and leadership. You can see it in the team's awful, sloppy, sorry play. They are embarassing! Virginia, please bring the tough, mean, nasty, winning Bears back to Chicago.
Cowher shows passion, and thats the selling point? With all that talent he had over 15 seasons with the Steelers and he has 1 gift Lombardi trophy to show for it? Mike Tomlin takes over and immediately gets a Superbowl. Maybe we should be more concerned about players and quit blaming everything from the recession to global warming on the coaching staff. Of course, players are more easily found in the 1st round of the draft, a luxury we do not have for 2 years.
Shut up! I want Mike Shanahan and only Mike. Mike let me run wild and throw wild. I might have double the INTs but double the TDs too!
I love Mike and I love Brian. The three of us can sold the Bears problems!
Hire Mike or I will demand a trade.
JC
First off, thanks to the brilliant Jerry Ange-blows the bears have no 1st round picks. Second Cower is a defensive minded coach not offensive, but I would love to see him as coach....he has a lot of similarity to the last guy to win a SB in Chicago, make him what ditka always wanted head coach/GM and hire some quality coordinators to go with him. But whatever they do they need to find some Big Men to play on both sides of the ball. I don't care who is throwing and who is catching, if you can't block you aren't going anywhere. And if you get no pass rush, your db's will get shredded eventually.
This year we've seen multiple games were the team was not only outmatched and outscored but was severly outcoached...to the point of embarrassment.
The current coaching staff has not done anything since 2006 but regress drastically and make poor coaching decisions week after week.
I'd take Cowher in a heartbeat if it meant more heart to the team because Lovie shows nothing. You can pretty much run a list of generic excuses and check them off during the postgame interview.
you are dead on chifan. ive been saying this for weeks. but for some reason cowher has a halo, like he's the second coming or something. he's an upgrade over what we have, but he wont win us a championship.
Besides that gift in Detroit, how many SuperBowls has Cower won? How many playoff flops has he orchestrated? Why is he considered a coaching savior? On the heels of a very bad decision with cutler, would it be wise to give up the rest of the farm for a coach with nothing to gain but alot to lose?
Please come to Chicago Cowher!! The front office needs to pull out all the stops to get him ASAP!
THEY SHOULD GET RID OF LOVIE, TRADE URLACHER AND MANNING FOR A FIRST ROUND PICK IN THE TOP TEN AND DRAFT A RECIVER AND SIGN ANQUAN BOLDIN IN FREE AGENCY IF RELEASED BY CARDINALS AFTER THIS SEASON,OR TRADE URLACHER AND FIRST ROUND PICK TO CARDINALS FOR ANQUAN BOLDIN..YOU CAN EVEN TRADE THE FIRST ROUND PICK FOR MANNING TO THE CARDS' IF YOU WANT TO. IF SOMETHING LIKE THIS IS DONE ASAP. I GUARANTEE A WINNING SEASON FOR THE BEARS NEXT SEASON.
The Bears have a better chance of winning a game than signing Cowher. Or not.
It's a dream right now. Cowher would want more control than the Bears would be willing to give.
Please make a change...Lovie, Angelo, Turner all need to go! Cowher would be a great move. If Da Bears can't play vicious defense & run the ball...it's time for a change! Those are the weakest parts of the Bears game.
It's a dream right now. Cowher would want more control than the Bears would be willing to give.
get rid of...
angelo, lovie, urlacher, adewale, vasher, manning( too expensive to resign), and tino pinisamoa
get cowher and Jeremy bates or some other offesnive minds!
Great Choice!! Go get him!!!
