Southern Illinois football is No. 1 for the first time in more than four years.
The 8-1 Salukis grabbed the top spot in the latest Sports Network Football Championship Series rankings released Monday, edging out 9-0 Montana.
The move comes after the Salukis' 34-15 win Saturday at No. 9 South Dakota State. That was Southern's eighth win in a row and the second road victory against a Top 10 team this year. Southern plays host Missouri State on Saturday.
