Climbing aboard the anti-Weis bandwagon is easy right now. The question, though, is if the school fires Weis, what is the alternative? Proven powerhouse builders like Alabama's Nick Saban and USC's Pete Carroll don't seem to be available, so another coaching move could end up yielding little more than an expensive mess. Buying out the remaining six years of Weis' 10-year deal would cost the university upward of $20 million, with no guarantee that his successor would do any better. That's a tough call to make in the middle of a recession.

Has race-baiting become a sport, or just an adjunct issue? When ND hired Ty, it was because he was a great coach, when they let him go, it was a color issue. My take on the day Willingham was hired (as emailed to my brother) was that ND had hired a black coach because he was a good coach AND because he was black and ND was really into social issuesat the time. I warned that as big a day as it was for Affirnative Action, the day would come when Ty's being let go would be construed as a racist firing. I was happily surprised with Ty's early successes since I thought he might be in over his head because he really didn't bring have a great record at Stanford (44-36-1 after suceeding Bill Walsh). Turns out that he was in over his head or wasn't that great a coach or maybe ND isn't getting the talent necessary. Whatever the cause Ty didn't make a go of it and was let go. Bob Davie wasn't let go because he was white, it was his record as head coach. Brian Kelly (Cincinati) might be the next coach and doesn't that name have a nring to it? Now, I'm not thinking he's on the radar screen because of his brogue and I'm guessing if he is hired and doesn't pan out, his being let go won't be his connection with the old sod.
Give him another year with his new blue chippers+Clausen+Tate= wins. We are so doom and gloom. The last 3 games are hard close losses. It is not about being blown up by the other team. These teams they played are much better teams then most people think. By tearing down Weis at this stage is unbecoming. Keep up the head high and just win. our great General George Washington lost many battles during the American Revolution and he won the most important battle at the end. The war is not over. Their is a reason why the administration gave Weis a 10 years contract - to build a foundation. It takes time. He bearly got his players this year...next years his top recruits are going to shine. weis is a great recruiter. we need to save money and save face and support what we have now. throwing him under the bus and starting over with a different system and different bus is basically starting over from scratch........give him another chance.
Weis record is very similar to Bob Davie and Willingham. See a pattern? I guarantee the next coach will have a similar record after 3 years and you'll be looking to get rid of him. Face it, the glory days of ND are over! The balance of power in College Football lies in the Southeast and the West. The Midwest teams beat each other up with 1980's style football. Hope for a good team every 3-4 years and enjoy that.
ND got what they deserved by hiring Weis; you made the bed, now lie in it. A sad team, power house days are over.
Black - White - Hey People it's EEOC - at least on the surface...
if ND is racist, then why did they hire ty in the first place ?
Ty,
Implying that the Willingham firing was racist is just plain wrong. He is a terrible coach, and proved as much during his days at Washington. You think it was racist of them to fire him after an 0-12 season?
White and black have nothing to do with it...if it does in your mind, then perhaps you are the one who is racist.
