Brees, Favre making strong MVP pitches

ProFootballTalk.com reports: The battle for the NFL's Most Valuable Player award is shaping up as a possible showdown between ageless Vikings quarterback Brett Favre and former Purdue star Drew Brees of the unbeaten Saints.

Both candidates polished their resumes this week. Favre shredded the Bears' defense for a season-high 392 yards and three touchdowns Sunday, while Brees threw five TD passes and had a perfect passer rating (158.3) in a 38-17 demolition of the Patriots on Monday night.

One possible factor in Favre's favor: He gets to face the Bears again Dec. 28 at Soldier Field.
