INDIANAPOLIS -- The Cubs are moving closer to dealing outfielder Milton Bradley, sources said, though nothing is imminent.
Still,a deal could come by Wednesday, the final full day of the winter meetings.
Asked if a deal could be done today, general manager Jim Hendry said: "I'm always hopeful. I don't know."
Another team source said he doesn't expect a deal to come down tonight.
Tampa Bay still appears to be the likeliest scenario, though a Rays source denied they were "close" to a deal. Texas may still be in the mix, though team sources suggest it would only be if the Cubs paid almost the entire freight. The New York Mets are not interested in Bradley, contrary to rumors, but are trying to unload Luis Castillo on the Cubs.
If there is a mystery team involved in the long-running Bradley rumor mill, it has yet to emerge.
