Yankees could thwart Cubs' shot at Granderson

INDIANAPOLIS -- Latest hot winter-meetings rumor making the rounds in the Marriott Hotel lobby is that the Yankees are hot on the trail of Tigers center fielder Curtis Granderson, and that is not good news for the Cubs.

While the Cubs seem stuck, money-wise, until Milton Bradley departs, the Yankees apparently are trying to put together a package of young players. One executive said the Cubs might have a more attractive offer and that manager Lou Piniella loves Granderson, a Chicago native.
Both teams also are interested in Mike Cameron if they lose out on Granderson, although it is not a lock the Tigers will be dealing him.

The Yankees also have the ability to take on starter Edwin Jackson, and a report in USA Today had Jackson being close to leaving the Tigers in a trade. The Cubs may not have the ability to take both players.

I am a cub fan myself and I believe Granderson may be good for the cubs. If you notice when players change teams they are a little better. I know the cubs haven't won the world series in a 102 years. But I am a big fan and always be a fan. At least its worth a try. And on Bradly I think he sould stay thats my opion. Cub fan since 1983. Go CUBS GO.

Granderson stricks out a lot and can't hit left-handed pitching (.211). He is more of a platoon players. If the Yanks want to over-pay, let them.

Yanks always get their man. If not it just means they didn't want them from the get go. Yanks 27 time world champs.

Maybe so, but that doesn't always mean their man is good. Remember the time when their man was Carl Pavano?

lol enrique could you not be such a hater haha.
but oh well. i duno about trading for granderson and jackson... they would probably have to deal hughes or chamberlain to land either of them. i would rather use hughes and chamberlain to land halladay! since money is not an issue i think the trade scenario should be saved for the best player available (halladay). yankees can still get holliday this year, or go after crawford or mauer next year

Shouldn't this article headline read;

"Yankee's save Cubs from themselves"

They can have Granderson, he is a platoon player who can't lead off and strikes out a ton!

Yanks always get their man. If not it just means they didn't want them from the get go. Yanks 27 time world champs.

Just because Joel Sherman tweeted that the Yankees like Granderson doesn't mean they're anywhere near a deal. I doubt the Yankees make that trade.

Wouldn't the Tigers prefer a trade that lands Granderson outside of the AL?

I can't stand the Yankees and their overhyped prospects. Chamberlain is nothing but an end of the rotation pitchers, and hughes is nothing but a power reliever but yet the media portrays both these guys as true Aces of the future. Dont get me wrong the Cubs overhype their prospects sometimes but not to the degree of the Redsox or Yankees, its kind of obvious when you can name the farm system of both the yankees and redsox and you're not a fan of either, thanks ESPN

I said it when these granderson rumors 1st started circulating.If the yanks want him they will get him period.Whenever the yanks want somebody they always get them CC,A rod,Randy Johnson,Clemens,etc,etc.Unlike the cubs who get lost in every rumor yanks seal the deal thats why they have 27 chips and cubs have'nt won in 102 years.Plain and simple and I'm a cubs fan but it's the brutal truth.
