If the loss to Northwestern didn't bug Wisconsin enough, this might: The Wildcats have jumped ahead of the Badgers, accepting an invitation to the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1 in Tampa, the Tribune has learned.
They will face Auburn (7-5) from the Southeastern Conference.
Wisconsin (9-3) throttled Hawaii Saturday night, 51-10, finishing with a better record than Northwestern (8-4) and a national ranking (22nd in the Associated Press poll released Sunday). Northwestern's votes rank them 30th according to the writers.
But the Cats beat Wisconsin in Evanston during the regular season, and an intense lobbying effort by athletic director Jim Phillips put the Cats ahead in this battle as well.
Wisconsin is headed to Orlando for the Champs Sports Bowl.

Has Teddy Greenstein ever written an article in which he focused positively on Northwestern? Seems like because he graduated from NU, he bends over backwards not to be called a homer! Maybe a little positive notice might help to fill Ryan Field with purple. When Fitz was playing, before TG started "covering" (more like burying) the 'Cats, I seem to remember being part of a few sellout crowds.
Where is his cogent analysis of the matchup with Auburn? This drivel is just another example of the way he covers NU football. The only difference is that (for once) the article isn't about Notre Dame. Besides, Madison is about the same distance as South Bend.
Go Cats!!!
Auburn will use and abuse NorthWestern, Welcome to SEC FOOTBALL!
All of you Wisconsin people need to cram it. Somehow you're making the case that the badgers deserve the outback bowl over a Northwestern team that beat them. While you're at it why don't you just go ahead make an argument that you should be in the national championship game instead of Alabama. I mean you already said one ridiculous thing so why stop there. Lets not forget the fact that watching the badgers offense is as exciting as reading the dictionary...I can see why you guys do the whole jump around thing after the 3rd quarter, I mean guess I would need to do something to wake me up too if I had to sit through a badgers game.
Maybe you forgot the way NU stoned Wisconsin three times in the last ten minutes. Or how about big, bad John Clay losing the game with that fumble with 1:30 left. Not to mention the interception that sealed it. While everyone continues to call NU a bunch of losers we've easily jumped Illinois as the best team in the state while we've racked up big wins against teams like Iowa and Wisconsin.
epic game in northwestern? cmon. that was far from epic.... the fact you consider that epic is pretty sad.
Stop your crying Wisconsin, you got what you need the toilet bowl.
Northwestern definitely deserves the Outback Bowl. We beat Wisconsin in an epic game in Evanston, beat Iowa in Iowa for the second year in a row, and finished that pitiful team to the south, Illinois, in Illinois all in the last couple weeks of the season. If it wasn't for an extremely slow start we would have been contending for the Capital One Bowl even though I'll admit that the bowl committee would have definitely taken Penn State over us. We outnumbered Missouri fans last year in San Antonio and we'll do it again this year at the Outback Bowl. Go Cats!!!
Wisconsin loses again.
61 years and counting.
Yet another bowl game for "loser" Northwestern. Maybe ESPN can hire Jim O'Donnell to improve its reporting on the Wildcats.
Me again, Wisconsin should be in the out back bowl.
This game should be as crappy as Outback steaks taste. Bad food, bad game, Outback!
GO CATS,60 Year wait,i am ready to celebrate on 1-1-10.YOU CAN DO IT:~)
