Notre Dame recruit: Weis called me, told me to stay

The South Bend Tribune reports: Wide receiver recruit Daniel Smith said recently fired coach Charlie Weis called him and told him to stay at Notre Dame.

"He told me, 'You earned this.' And he said, 'Don't let my situation change your decision to go to the university,'" Smith said.

"He told me I made the right decision then, and it's still the right decision. He told me to give it everything you have and encouraged me to work hard for the new coach, and that I'm going to make an impact as soon as I hit campus."

Irish tight ends coach Bernie Parmalee paid a visit to the Smith home on Thursday night as well. The nine Irish assistants are still under contract and are all possible holdovers.
