The White Sox won't offer salary arbitration to right fielder Jermaine Dye or their other three free agents by tonight's deadline, according to a source.
The Sox won't receive any draft picks should Dye or reliever Octavio Dotel sign with another team, but they can still negotiate with them, as well as leadoff batter Scott Podsednik and backup catcher Ramon Castro.

Dye and Dotel were Type A free agents. Podsednik and Castro didn't
receive a free agent ranking, so no draft compensation was involved.
Dye is expected to attract interest from Texas, Atlanta and San Francisco, as well as St. Louis if the Cardinals can't retain Matt Holliday.
Of the four free agents, only Podsednik remains a possibility to return to the Sox, who have talked to the agent for Coco Crisp.

You guys make me embarrassed to be a sox fan. Bunch of sports meat heads you all are. Sigh.
The unwillingness of the Sox to re-sign Podsednik (even as a bench player) for a relative pittance says volumes about their desparate financial straights. Filling roster spots with old over-the-hills veterans at about a million dollars a pop tells me they are less serious about making a run this year than not losing money. Someone please tell Kenny Williams that to win, even with great pitching, you need to score runs. With his present roster, run production, which was terrible in '09, is going to drop off a cliff in '10.
Sox loss, cubs gain! Way to go southside..
