Ex-NBA star Jayson Williams is wearing an alcohol-detecting ankle bracelet while he awaits sentencing for accidentally shooting a limousine driver.

A New York judge ordered the former New Jersey Net to wear the Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor as long as he's not in custody. The device measures his perspiration every 30 minutes for alcohol content. If there's any, it will notify authorities in New York and New Jersey.

The no-alcohol restriction was imposed after Williams was accused of crashing his SUV into a tree in Manhattan on Jan. 5.  He pleaded guilty Jan. 11 to aggravated assault in the 2002 shooting death of driver Costas "Gus" Christofi at Williams' Hunterdon County home. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 23.

I fully agree, gentlemen. And I note that money, most importantly, gets you the opportunity to plead aggravated assault in what looks to me like a negligent homicide case. The victim is dead, not assaulted. Goes to show.
