Parents banned from youth basketball games

Organizers of a Massachusetts YMCA youth basketball league, fed up with the unruly behavior of parents, have banned adult spectators.

Coordinators of the league for fifth- through eighth-graders at the Tri-Community YMCA in Southbridge sent letters to parents last week telling them they are not allowed to attend games this Saturday, the last day of the season.

League organizers say parents have yelled at referees and at each another, sparking frequent arguments during games. Police have not been called, but officials instituted the fan ban before it got to that point.
