By Vaughn McClureINDIANAPOLIS -- Mike Singletary fired Mike Martz in December of 2008, but the 49ers coach and Bears legend obviously still has respect for his former offensive coordinator.
Singletary was asked Thursday for his thoughts on Martz taking the same position with the Bears.
"Like Terrell Owens would say with 'Get your popcorn ready,' that's what you can get ready for with Mike Martz,'' Singletary told the Tribune at the NFL scouting combine. "He knows offense."
Martz is known for his explosive offenses, and the Bears figure he should be able to work well with Jay Cutler. Before he was hired, Martz flew to Nashville to meet with the quarterback.
"I think he will be great for the young man who is playing quarterback there," Singletary said. "(Cutler) needs someone like Mike Martz.
"That kid is a smart kid ... has feistiness to him or whatever. And I think Mike Martz can bring out the part that (Cutler) needs in order to go to the next level."

Singletary doesn't need to play games; if he said it, he meant it. yeah, he fired martz because martz runs the show; MS was not going to take that.
Lovie too, knows Martz out-classes him, but Lovie is just a "yes man" right now. All Lovie has accomplished in CHI is to take a team he inherited and ran iit into softness.
Martz brings a whole new set of wings to this offense. Same as Jay, never had a QB like this, and, we've never had an OC like this in Chicago.

Just another example that Singletary is still one of the most classy guys in all of sports.
Buddy Ryan used to say when an opponent is patting you on the back, they aren't complimenting you, they are looking for a soft spot to stick a knife in!

We got the ex zero and 16 coach from the Lions that came here as a savior for the D-line that saved nothing and got promoted for that. Now we get the destructor....to go along with cover-none defense orchestrated by none other than lovie. We have an ex Defensive coordinator that should have been fired but got promoted/demoted (or whatever) to linebacker coach. We got an Offensive coordinator that was the only person on this planet that would take the job.
We have an accountant that knows nothing about football running the whole show. We have a general manager that can't draft players. We have a bunch of bozo owners that created this 3-ring circus (or is it 5 ring or 6 ring by now).
Well, we can now start watching the Chicago Rush and Chicago Slaughter. At least we can still watch some real football games.

Yeah, that offense Cutler ran in Denver was really simple. Everyone is football is stupid I guess because anyone who has spent more than 10 minutes with Cutler talks about how SMART he is. Every site is the same, be it Denver, Chicago, New York...4 or 5 people who understand the game and 15 who call everyone else names and claim the coach and QB are stupid. Then, if someone contradicts their inane claims they make homophobic insults.
Why do I get this feeling that somehow someway da bears dumb down Martz's offense so much dat it'll look like da same ineffective mess that Turner ran.
To say anything but Martz knows offense is a no brainer. But I was more impressed that Samaria endorsed his ability to develop Cutlers game to huge heights! I'm expecting Cutler to be in the conversation as best QB after this season. It could be a 5,000 yard/40+ TD performance out of this guy under Martz.
If you guys not true bear fans then go to hell stop hating the bears are going to surprise the league and be one of the top scoring teams in the NFL if the D-fence come together like in 06 playoffs is ours. But that means Lovie will be back and I don't want him back so bear down 4 this one.
