Dates set for Notre Dame-Miami rivalry renewal

The renewal of the college football rivalry between Notre Dame and Miami will indeed take place at Soldier Field, and we now know when: Oct. 6, 2012.

A Notre Dame source confirmed the date to the Tribune on Wednesday, as well as the dates of a home-and-home series between the programs: Oct. 8, 2016 in South Bend and Nov. 25, 2017 in South Florida.

The Tribune was the first to report in May that Notre Dame and Miami were in serious talks to resurrect a rivalry dormant for decades at Soldier Field, with future matchups between the teams the lingering hang-up at that stage.

The Miami Herald reported the dates of the series earlier Wednesday.

The Miami game is yet another of Notre Dame's annual "off-site home games." No official announcement of the series is expected until the Irish fill out a couple full seasons of football schedules for the near term.
